    Who's a Hoka fan? Will you be getting the Clifton 9's??

    • @enkidu2562
      @enkidu2562 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Used to be an enormous Hoka fan and have probably worn out 10 pairs, including Clifton's, but no I won't be going for these. Like you say, there are better options from other brands and even the Mach or Rincon are probably preferable from Hoka.

      @johnkerr6466 ปีที่แล้ว

      I will, but I bought 2 new pairs of the Clifton 8's to stock up. So, there's a couple of thousand km before I do! For me I've found these are the shoes for comfort on long runs. I buy the extra wide size so that limits my choices. I don't want to risk £100+ when I know there's a shoe that works so well for me!

    Will definitely be trying the 9. I’ve got wide feet so the wide version in the 8 has always been perfect for me. The main use of a Clifton for me is easy / recovery so not bothered about having something more responsive. Keep up the great work you are doing with the channel. Your tips and advice over the last 4 years have got me from a 27 minute parkrun to just under 20 minutes all done over the age of 50. Many Thanks 👍👍

      @@FantasyWarden I’ve been happy with the Clifton 9 wide so far. They’re up to 100 miles now and for me I think the 9 feels slightly better. If you’re concerned about the fit, I’ve not noticed any difference in sizing. 👍

    I originally bought this for work. I work in healthcare and a 12hr shift. I stand/run in my work environment almost the entire shift. I think my shoe hunting for work ends with this pair of shoes. Very responsive and sticks to slippery surfaces. Very soft too! I have an ultraboost 22 and it’s like night and day in comparison to the clifton 9. 🙌

  • @johnag007
    @johnag007 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I tested this one together with my 200km Clifton 8, it is night and day as my Clifton 8 midsole is now marshmallow-y and flexible. Considering that every tester says the 8 and 9 are the same shoes, it shows you how much the midsole changes as you break it in. Ultimately it has no pop unlike the Saucony Tempus for example (but this one does not have long run marshmallow sponge type absorbing properties).

    • @davidrosenthal5795
      @davidrosenthal5795 ปีที่แล้ว

      I also use the 1080 as my daily trainer. Worth keeping an eye on the NB website since every few months they have been reducing them in price for a week or so. I got a pair in Nov 22 for £96 and the same again in Jan 23. So now got 3 pairs, though first about to be retired and second starting to show wear.

    The semi-gusseted tongue I find really interesting, the inside bit of my previous pairs have always been the first thing to give way, a little less so on the extra wide admittedly. Probably due to my flat feet and less than efficient running form.

    Hi Ben. Enjoyed the Clifton 8 and have put a couple of runs in the 9s. The Clifton line is nice and stable and served me well for long runs during my marathon training block last year. I agree that the upper is an improvement. I find the midsole a bit more lively than the 8.

    My favorite shoe is the hoka mach 4.
    Bought the clifton 8 for my easy long runs during marathon training. But I can't run more than 10k in it. Really getting sore feet and even blisters. Looks like the sole is too narrow, so wider version might do it, but I usually have regular size width.
    No clifton 9 for me, but looking forward to the Mach 5 review :)

      I got the wide version after going to a running store and finding the normal was too narrow, there must've been a sizing issue with the shoes because I usually have narrow feet. However, the wide version is the most comfortable show I've ever worn easily running 20km with no feet pain. Just try them on in the shop to see what fits.

      True, so many ppl hate the Peg 39, there are also many reviewers telling that, but it is definitely a capable daily workhorse. The Peg 38 was good too imho, but more for easy or even recovery days. In Peg 39s I can pick up the pace way easier. Again, for a daily trainer its a great option, very durable and you can always get Pegs for like 60-65 quid!

    Great review, Ben! I first ran in the Clifton v1 and when it came out it was amazing how light the shoe was with all the cushion. It was ahead of the game... now all the other manufacturers have surpassed the Hoka Clifton with their comparable shoes. I will ALWAYS reach for my Novablast before my Cliftons. My most recent pair of Hoka Clifton is v7, and I've probably only put 40-50 miles on them in the past 6 months. The Clifton isn't a shoe I look forward to running in anymore, and I probably won't even consider purchasing another pair so long as the Novablast remains leaps and bounds better.

    I like the Mach 4 - a bit of a rough ride, but light and not much energy return, which I feel helps me feel the difference having carbon on race day. I do my easy runs rather fast and don't really like plodders with much cushioning and bouncing. I ran about 1K in my last pair and it was ok, given that they are said to last 300-400kms. I feel the Mach 5 has too much energy return and it'll spoil me for my next marathon.

    Ive recently gotten into running and ive bought myself a pair of Clifton 9s and for christmas I got a pair of Nike Pegasus 40's. As a heavier runner (130kgs), i find the midsole in the heel of the clifton to be too soft. At my slower paces im still a bit of a heel striker, and with the low stsck hight of the clifton it can almost feel like im continuously running/walking up hill and my calves and shins take some strain, even with the rocker design. The pegusus 40 still has plenty cushion but I think the Air pods in the heel and toe ad a bit of firmness that allows the pegusus to cope with my weight better. It also has a larger heel to to drop wich seems to help take strain off of my calves and shins. The pegusus also offer a better responsiveness for my faster (but rater short) intervals. Definitelt a more fun shoe to run in too. Hopefully this helps a heavier runner looking at these shoes.

    All this HOKA craze is there's no mid-sole technology like Nike Air or ASICS(acronym in latin) Gel. HOKA uses compression molded EVA in its mid-sole that's been in the athletic shoe industry for decades.
    It's all a bunch of hype imo.

    I have such sentimental love for the cliftons, this year will be my first races not in them; they are quite boring shoes though unfortunately!

    How is the width compared to the Clifton 8? Do i still need to buy the wide version or is the Clifton 9 a little wider?

    great stuff.., I will definitely pass on these, and maybe get the Mach 5.. or maybe a 1080.
    I tried a Clifton back when the 7 was released.., they are fine.., but I didn’t pick them up a lot. Now I wear them to work, like many of my coworkers.

    I got these and love them. I know what you mean about the Mach 5s feeling more exciting but if you're after a daily trainer for long, easy miles then the Clifton 9 is great.

    I bought the Clifton 8 but not too impressed, they are ok but only ok . They have stayed on my shoe rack but while other pairs i have have covered 100s of miles the clifton sits there unloved 😒

    I've a pair of arahi 6's what would be the main difference between them and the clifton 9s? Would you recommend sticking with the Arahi's or going for the cliftons? Just looking a comfy shoes to do daily miles. I don't mind the Arahis but find the foam very hard.

    Any idea how these would do for flat feet? I’m in recon and we do 6-8 mile runs daily. My feet are built like bricks though and it’s been causing a lot of stress on my Achilles and shins. Currently running with On cloud flows and can’t wait to get rid of them
