I have lived in Vegas for 35 years. I know the history of just about everything and anything to do with Vegas. This is a brilliantly put together history of the Stardust. Most of the pictures were relevant to what was being said. The information was detailed and correct. When I started watching I said to myself, "I wonder if they will mention the race track?" This is better than 99% of the documentaries produced by major players, on many levels. Nice Work!
anyone remember the Stardust Line? the great Lee Peete, Donny Bator,Gene Harvey, Jim Brown (yes, that Jim Brown),Michael Roxy Roxborough,Arnie Lange(not the HowardStern guy),Steven Nover,Larry Ness, DaveCokin, Chip Chipper Charimbiss, etc.
Loved this video. My Mother worked at the Stardust as a poker dealer. 1975-1986. I grew up in Vegas. My first job was at the Dunes, Junket Office. I was 13 and worked along side my Stepfather. I had Passover with Morris Shenker and his family. I had no idea at the time that I was growing up in such an interesting and classy Vegas Era. Long Gone but not forgotten. Thanks
I worked there too during that time. I was a change girl. Bosses were kind of scary, knowing now that they are part of the mob from Chicago. Frank Rosenthal scared the crap out of me. But they treated you pretty good. My dad knew some of them when we lived in Chicago growing up. Still friends with one of wives whose brother in law was in the mob.
Casinos come and go but there was something different about Stardust. I think people knew as soon as it was gone that it was a mistake to get rid of it. Personally, I believe they should rebuild it more modern but with aspects that remanence the past. I think it'd be a huge hit and welcomed back with open arms. But hey, what do I know?
I would prefer to be in a London pub and chatting with Churchill over a pint... Well, either that or back in my own past telling my former self what stocks to invest in over the next 50+ years...
I didn’t start going to Vegas until the 90s cause that’s when I became of age. Even that era was better. Now I go to Vegas just to see shows. I never gamble anymore. I loved walking around the casinos with a bucket of quarters. Now everything is so computerized that it’s not even fun. I have friends who live in Vegas and they never go to the strip unless out of town company comes over. You can’t even go to a store like Walgreens with the simplest things being twice the price. A bag of M&Ms was $16.95 with the M&M store about 30 feet away. Back in the day Vegas was the place to be. Now there has to be a special occasion to even go. I miss the fun and excitement of the old Vegas and I’m only 47
I first got to visit Vegas in 2000. Glad I got to see some of the old casinos there, and also the old prices. Now it's $60 for a buffet, no 99 cent shrimp cocktails anymore. $30 a day 'resort fee'. Smoking, rude, pushy Chinese tourists everywhere.
I'm glad that you're telling us this. My 1st time in Vegas was 1989. Then again in 90,91 & 92. Haven't been back since. But I was thinking about going back for a week vacation this upcoming year. But now I've changed my mind. Because according to what you're saying is that I won't be feeling like I went back in time? And that I won't enjoy it because it's changed for the worst? I must say, I gotta take your word for it. Because by the looks of those pics in this video, Vegas looks way different and commercialized. So now, at 53 Yeats old, I will probably choose a different place to vacate this year. But the question is where? I loved the Vegas of 1989. And If it's not that way anymore, than I'm out! Thanks for the conformational update.
Las Vegas is alright if you stay away from the major casinos. If you go over on the west side of town and go to the Wal-Mart, you'll find prices not that different than in other parts of the US. If you try to buy something on The Strip, you can expect to pay a bit (sometimes *A LOT*) more... I don't gamble, am not interested in the shows, or particularly attracted to the large buffets, so it's pretty easy for me to avoid all the tourist stuff around the casinos that is designed for separating those who are bad at math from their money. I usually just go out into the desert and go shooting while my wife is there for a conference or whatever. I guess I'm not the "typical tourist" though... :)
I was telling my wife that same thing last month, as I was putting a credit slip into a machine. The buckets of quarters were so much better to play with. Not to mention changing machines from 3 coin max bet to 5 coins, and many other annoying things. It took a lot of fun out of vegas. My first trip was in 1993. I usually go once a year now.
They invented the "Sportsbook", well I am sure you know who I am referring to, wink wink, lol. Hung out there quite a bit, but my place was the D.I. across from the Frontier . At the D.I., My Dewars and water was ready for me every Sunday morning at 8 AM at the bar in front of the Sportsbook when I used to fly in every week for NFL from S. Ca., geeze Southwest was only $39-$49 round trip back in the mid to late 80's! AND NO TRAFFIC on the I-15 back then, no one drove due to the flights being so cheap! NOW, Fuggedaboutit! Great times and memories back then. I am sure they knew you too back then, and you got treated very well. Thanks "Happy" for making think a bit how long its been. Take it ez Tom in NV
I was to young when the stardust was around, so I wouldn't be able to give any memories of the place since I was never there. I sometimes wish I would've been able to experience the place when it was around, it seems so great.
"Resort fees" at the hotels are just another way to fleece visitors to Las Vegas. It doubles the price of the room. It started in Vegas and is now spreading throughout the country. Ugh. What a rip off.
@@petalson I mean 65 bucks a night in Vegas isn’t that bad lol. You guys complain about 60 bucks in resort fees but are glad to spend 500 bucks on the slots
"The town will never be the same. After the Tangiers, the big corporations took it all over. Today it looks like Disneyland. And while the kids play cardboard pirates, Mommy and Daddy drop the house payments and Junior's college money on the poker slots. In the old days, dealers knew your name, what you drank, what you played...after the Teamsters got knocked out of the box, the corporations tore down practically every one of the old casinos..." ~ Ace Rothstein, 'Casino'.
You order spaghetti and marinara sauce, they bring you egg noodles in ketchup. You used to walk in, the dealers knew what you played, what you bet, what you drank. Now, it's like spending a weekend like a total shnook.
Vegas has gone quite a bit downhill. You are now robbed from the moment you arrive, starting with your taxi driver. Thousands of people are hauling luggage upstairs at the airport to get an Uber, a service which is banned from the arrivals level. The reaction to the last recession was apparently to raise all pricing to confiscatory levels. Used to be that gambling profits allowed food and beverage pricing to be absurdly cheap and hotel rooms to be almost free. This time, my room was as expensive as a hotel room in New York or San Francisco. Also, no one seems to be winning in the casinos. You used to hear people winning at the slots every few minutes. More than 90% of the take used to be paid out, albeit in mostly small amounts; this keeps gamblers happy and enjoying themselves, so more people gamble, and the casino was always full. Now it's continually half-empty. Corporate management is simply not smarter than the old-school Vegas managers. The new management quite clearly believes that every part of the operation has to be independently profitable. That is not working, and will never work.
Vegas appears to be falling to corporate greed. Tourism is just one of the many things corporate greed kills. Who knew that 40 years later we would all be begging the mafia to return to Vegas?
Well put. I’ve been going to Vegas every year since 2004. Used to get super cheap buffets super cheap hotels. Not anymore. Everything has become way overpriced. People used to win. Not anymore is really true. I’ve seen it myself year after year it just gets worse. PS a snack size bag of M&M’s at the M&M store was $3.50. At the M&M store!!! Direct sales. And a direct scam.
there is also simply the idea that people having a good time more easily part with their money. so cheap drinks and food would mean that they didn't feel as bad blowing it all at the casino... especially if you had a good card dealer with a good personality. But when corporations take over they want cheap labor to boost profit, so they go for someone with no personality, or just remove them entirely and do computer gambling. what used to be a system reliant on people having a good time became preying on gambling addicts, and when that didn't work they started overcharging. corporations don't know what humanity is, that's why they ruined radio, tv, casinos and movies.
Exactly at least the mob guys treated everyone with respect ✊ because that’s how they wanted to be treated. They were literally were promoting a 24 hour party. They wanted everyone to have a great time even if they lost money but then at least you knew you were going to come back. Now I think many have sour taste in their mouths and may never return or at least much less. It seems to me that way too much emphasis on one outdoing the other has gone to the ultra extreme which costs much more to build and forced the prices to rise drastically. I think if they went north six miles on North Las Vegas BLVD and built old time Vegas that it would eventually take much of the business away!
It's actually a SHAME that none of the iconic Vegas hotel/casino complexes were protected as historic landmarks. Bigger and newer ain't necessarily better.
What is the benefit to protecting them though? If nobody goes there, they just require maintenance money to keep from deteriorating. Plus none of the neighbors want an abandoned building next door. Sounds good in theory, but not in execution. If there were enough people who cared about the old places, they wouldn't close down in the first place.
Lol they’re not historic buildings, nothing great happened there. They were casinos run by criminals, there was probably girls prostituting themselves there, there was the vice of gambling. Nothing significant for them to save the building, plus it must have been an eye sore compared to all the more modern constructions there.
None of these megalomaniac old-new projects will ever see the light of day. A Chinese-themed resort? What the hell for? Someone had tried that on East Sahara -- and failed most miserably only one year after opening. Also, why would anyone go to the north-end of the Strip -- when there is already a perfectly good and jam-packed south-end of it?
I work at resorts world September 2021 we’re almost done dumbass COVID didn’t do shit. They had us working and we’ve had over 200 cases and they didn’t give a fuck or show it on the news.
The end of the "real" Vegas started when they added resort fees and parking fees! And don't get me started on the over priced buffets! That's how you suckered people into gambling...cheap rooms and free food!
20 years ago I remember getting comped with free rooms, all I had to do was check in. Wasn't even a big gambler. Try and find that now. Also watch the YT video of the guy who rides his bike around and takes videos....One of his latest is a ride from the north to south around New York, NY. You see maybe a couple of dozen people walking on that whole long strip...sad.
Exactly. Gorge on wonderful $9 buffet and enjoy $50 room...oh well I lost $300 gambling. Now parking and room with resort fee $200 meals $30+...uh I ain't got any gambling money
Time stamps for titles content, no begging for subs and likes only a mention at 1:20 point....you sir are what TH-cam needs. Solid content with out click bait or self promo begging, fantastic work sir!!!
I use to go to the old Vegas back in the early 70's with my parents. Everything was dirt cheap and good. Now, you better take wheelbarrow of money with you for a weekend stay.
New Vegas is for the upper class to enjoy. The lower to middle class is not wanted anymore as they are no longer catered to. Old Vegas treated normal middle class people with respect and made sure you had a great time and wanted you to return soon.
Sure, what's the difference. Have a place for wealthy and they will come. High priced restaurant same. Some ppl think it is good only if it is high priced.
At least the Stardust had a great looking sign. I was really sad to see it go.. For me, The biggest loss was the very unique Landmark, its small footprint now parking lot.
First they were exclusive for gambling being legal there. Then they were exclusive because of nostalgia. Being famous for the strip & the whole athmosphere. Now it´s mostly very expensive resorts, like the ones we can visit all over the planet. I can experience Vegas without even going there. Watch Casino & Bugsy, some docs like these, order take out sushi and gamble online. All in one evening without the hassle of flying. And if I choose to go outdoors, I´ll bet visiting Venice or Prague is twice the fun for half the price. I can see why it´s on people´s bucket list, though. But if I ever visit the US, I´ll do so in the 60´s or 70´s ;)
I stayed at the Landmark once. Had a room in the tower with elevator noise all night long. The 27th floor lounge was a great place to watch the planes coming into McCarran.
@@williamwingo4740 When I stayed at the Landmark in about 1977, I had my first Vegas strip hooker! It wasn't a room in the tower, but one of the garden rooms at the base of the tower. I think the girl charged me $20 and when I started, I moved my lips toward her chest and she said "those will be extra", I still remember saying to her "what are they $5 apiece?" Well I was an inexperienced 23 year old!
I was in Vegas in 1960.Saw all the old shows with the Stars. Steve Lawrence and Edie Gorme were at my 21 table.Went to the opening of Frank Sinatra Jr. Nancy was there, Buddy Hackett in the lounge. My father in law was pit boss at the Stardust. Many of the sidewalks were wood. Only five casinos on the strip. Riviera,Tropicana,Stardust,Desert Inn, were spread out with big winding drives and palm trees, beautiful lighting with a starry sky.The airport was one large square room with a bunch counter and a row of slots and a dirt parking lot. Quite different today.
Loved the old mob-run Stardust, a great place to chill and gamble with- polite mob guys hangin' around. Las Vegas was a better place when they ran it, for the customer at least.
Glad I finally saw the sign from the Aku Aku restaurant. I was a pantry cook assistant that worked there for a summer in 1962. I got to see a lot of stars.
Wow, very cool. I love watching viva Las Vegas and seeing Elvis and Anne walking by the pool in back of the Flamingo singing and I wish I was there. Everyone is turning to watch them. You can see it on TH-cam - Elvis and Anne singing “the lady loves me” check it out. You are a lucky man to have seen that era I was only a kid then. But my father traveled to Vegas a lot selling carpet. He carpeted many of the old casinos including the Stardust, parts of Caesar’s, the showboat, Fremont and many others. The boys treated my Mom and Dad like kings. It doesn’t happen now in fact if you sell to casinos now you’re to get paid.
I feel like they're going to pull off an sls/ Sahara scheme First thing is that theyre going to stick to Resorts World for a couple years then theyre going to be like "oh hey this is pretty shity name let's name it back to something more familiar" and boom Stardust is back but in a new era
I remember The Stardust had a AM radio station inside or next to the sports book. As a kid I lived in the desert in the middle of nowhere and before cable it was one of the few things that was on at night, I prank called these guys (before caller ID) nightly and they would flip out. In hind sight I wish I wouldve recorded it because they got so angry on air.
Yup, that radio station was KDWN-AM and Lee Pete use to host that show from the Stardust for a long time. There's a YT'ber named Carzy Cav who has posted his phone calls over his channel. I even recorded a full two hour show from the early 80's and posted it up on Internet Archive. R. I. P., Lete Pete!!
@@thatDonOguy I grew up on Jim Healy on KMPC so always loved sports talk from a very young age, now I remember it was KDWN aka k-dawn, I think Art Bell got his start on K-dawn and also was at the Stardust as a kid with insomnia Art Bell was like my security blanket and you really can find anything on TH-cam.
I loved to come to Las Vegas back in the 70s and early 80s. The mob knew how to make it fun and affordable! And, it was classy! Now, it's just a cheap Disneyland mess of a place with low-lifes everywhere. The mob would never have tolerated what goes on on the strip now!
@@TackyFlamingo...Yea, but it's all phony. We're not kids anymore. The treehouse, the animals, the boats on rails...you won't find that stuff in real-life America. Just like in Vegas, it's all a facade until you see the seedy underbelly.
sassiebrat there’s many of us who basically revolve around Disney. We know the magic behind it but we still get APs, go whenever we can and all around enjoy it. You don’t have to be a kid to like it it’s just all preference and personality I guess
The stardust hotel was my mum and dads favorite hotel , brings back some wonderful memories I will always treasure, rest in peace mum and dad love from your son xoxo
The ending of Casino, explains it all, the corporations lowered the standards and increased the prices while turning Vegas into a raunchier version of Disneyland.
Taking 12-15 years to develop the Stardust property is mind-boggling! In 2008, smart management and developers could have done a major redevelopment of the Stardust in 24 months... The numbers show that tourism is declining in Las Vegas, because of corporate greed - expensive room rates, charging for every small service, resort fees, etc... Do we really need more cookie cutter hotel/casinos on The Strip?
Totally agree, now major parking fee. Being from California I would go to Vegas 3 or 4 times a year, a cheap getaway, and if I lost on the slots or tables, so what! still had a good time. Now, I go every other year, and gaming money is tied to a budget of the whole trip. Hope the great minds of Vegas know what they're doing, the next downturn of tourism could be the"mob" hit of death.
Were getting more tourists from the east because statistically speaking they make more money than us west coasters 300-400 a night is nothing to them and they mostly have major corporations they work for pay for their stay
Very true! There’s also more competition for casino gambling across the country and it is only going to get worse with the legalization of sports gambling. Vegas has to offer something else and at a better value. I don’t have the answer, but some of the casinos across the country are pretty amazing. Why travel to Vegas when you can get a similar experience on a road trip?
@ situationmoney: I'm shocked at how lousy Vegas has gotten. 6:5 BJ. CSM's. Bad rules. Preferential shuffling / cutting in shoe games. High table minimums. Expensive food and hotels. I was there 25 years ago in Reno. 1992. Great! Clean. Nice. FF to 2018 and every time I google around on the Web, I see just how bad gambling has become in Nevada. No reason to bother.. Today, there are alternatives that are much closer and better than Las Vegas. The Stardust. Good old days. Classic Vegas. The mob knew how to run casinos. The corporations are all about the bottom-line. And people thought the mob was greedy... Today, Vegas doesn't cater to the gambler. They cater to the tourist who doesn't mind losing their money over 3-4 days and is gone.
The first time I went to LV was in 1988 or 1989 with my friend. We stayed at the Aladdin. The downtown was incredible. It was gritty and a step back in time. It is a shame they built that canopy over the whole thing and so many of the old places closed. They call that progress.
hey at least at Disneyland you can have fun when you hand your money over. When you run out of money in less time than it takes a freaking cocktail waitress to show up after you sit down at a blackjack table betting only $5 a hand, that shit ain't fun.
Great video.I love the history of Vegas and The Stardust was my home away from home in Vegas. Fist year there in 1980.. That whole area is mostly gone except for slots of fun and circus circus... Gone is the Stardust, Westward Ho, Riviera, Frontier, Silver City, and Silver Slipper, Desert Inn and not to mention smaller ones like the Moracco. Ty for posting. Good job.
Absolutely agree. Should have left the legendary Stardust alone ! A staple of real Vegas. Like the most recent resorts on the strip like Aria. Looks so lame and uninteresting and un-vegas !
I personally think the more depressing story involves the Frontier.. like, the construction on the project didn't even begin! Seeing a video on it would be cool! Great one as always!
Yeah in the '60s some plastered guy could stumble from a casino onto the strip 5:30am with all his bling glowing and never need worry about being mugged. Only downside was a little less oxygen where as inside a smoke in an ashtray burned like a fuse.
I was in Vegas when they imploded the last of the Riviera. A waitress told a couple of my companions that the day the Riviera closed, Vegas became unaffordable. They had the buffets and such priced low to keep people coming in, that it forced all the others to keep their prices down as well.
The Riviera was an eye-sore and a dump when I was a guest there in the early 1990's. Now, as a resident of Las Vegas visitors need to understand that the city makes a lot more money out of conventions and other events (ACM's, Rodeo, EDC, NASCAR, etc.) than they did in the 60's, 70's and 80's. The Riviera needed to go to make room for more convention space, period. Again, as a resident here are still plenty of places to go for cheap rooms and cheap eats, cheap entertainment, just ask a local.
I highly recommend doing a series about the abandoned boomtowns and sparsely inhabited failed cities in and around Nevada; such as Walker Lake, Tonopah and Goldfeld.
I went to Vegas right before Covid. I couldn't believe how high everything was priced. I was really disappointed with my time there, even though my husband and I did keep ourselves busy, going to a couple of shows, as well as the Mob Museum, riding the High Roller, and a few other things. I couldn't believe how expensive it was just to do anything there. Food was way over priced, and beer was 10.00 dollars a glass at Caesars. I don't plan on going back. The dollar does not go far there. I would imagine it's worse now.
@marthagonzalez5528 if everyone stopped going they would probably tear everything down and make vegas a ghost town. Tourist industry tends to just close stuff down when money stops moving in, rarely do they ever just drop all their prices to accommodate to the consumers not going because of prices.
Old vegas mob run was best...no gangs and no much crime..well you know...but they took care of you even if you lost a few bucks always got a room and a meal...yep they even knew your name ..now it's just a tourist trap....
Dude had you kept making high quality content like this you would have 1m+ subs by now and flying high. It’s not too late though, I know you got it in you still, but I understand if your interests lie elsewhere and the passion just isn’t there anymore for videos like this.
Yo honestly thank you so much for leaving this comment i honestly needed to hear this lowkey been feeling like it’s too late but honestly i just gotta get back up and keep making content and see where it foes
We should learn by our history, not tear it down. The tourists dictate the flow of money.People's values do change and that's why we also will change, with the times. It seems like every ten years, values and people change a LOT!
Some of the language is misleading. But mostly accurate. The part I find most interesting is the drive in movie theatre. I worked here in the 90's until 1999. The drive in became the employee parking lot and many of the posts for the car speakers were still in place. I always found that amusing. I think your video is well done and informative. A little story of my own to add: Sometime in the 90's a murder occurred at the sports book which at the time was on the north end of he property with two entrances and exits nearly side by side. Turned out the victim was an old mobster who still had a price on his head from the old days.
What’s really disturbing is they take a hotel like the stardust and the hotel they were gonna build after was actually pretty good looking idk why they just didn’t call it stardust place and keep the team and make it a 4 billion dollar hotel, and on top of that they get till 2018 to finish it and the Americans give up and sell to some Malaysian company. I just feel it’s unpatriotic, I would have liked to see a brand new thought of re imagined stardust.
It appears Resort World is design to cater toward the Chinese customers/gamblers, like the Lucky Dragon. Hopefully, RW will have a better future than the L' Dragon.
It took just over one year to build the Empire State Building in the 1930's. One year !! I get it, safety conditions and other things have changed but so have the modern tools and equipment.
Excellent memories of living behind the Stardust in the old Budget Suites when I worked at Silver City a long time ago. What a shame the north end of the Strip turned into over the years.
@@BrianShepler-w6x It was great for a long time, nice and quiet. Most everybody who lived there were casino workers, strippers, and hookers. A lot of people working swing shift, so everyone was mindful of day sleepers.
I loved the Stardust, and even though I was a "high-roller" (penny slots and a few bucks on the tables, lol) from the 80's until it closed. I rarely never paid for my rooms, always got upgrades, tix to the shows & the steak dinners. Thanks for the memories!
I lived in vegas and witnessed the stardust implosion in 2007. It was pretty crazy. You couldnt see 6 inches in front of you for about five minutes afterwards due to the black cloud of debris.
If someone would bring back that old school feel and charm, the place would stay packed. No more kids running around and people of the casino floors in pajamas. Rat Pack kind of cool with class would bring me back. Great video, thanks for the information shared as I loved the Stardust.
Well in short, My Uncle built and ran the StarDust Hotel, and as the story goes in our family. The business took a terrible turn and the Mob decided to clean house, so to speak. They tried to kill him many times without success. However, just before it was imploded, they found his body in the back of the Hotel with bullet hole in the back of his head. It was a real shock to the family, where as he took very good care of us and many Celeb's when we visited Vegas. It was a beautiful Hotel and I'll never forget my Uncle. May he R.I.P.
That’s a helluva story !… I have never been there and I have no desire to ever go there but …. I have to say …you’ve got an interesting outline for what could make a great story …you ever think about taking it a little further and maybe writing a book ?….
I don't understand all the negative comments on the pace of your narration of the video. I noticed nothing irregular nor hard to understand in the way the way you read your text . Great! In my opinion.

And If it's not that way anymore,
than I'm out!
The Stardust was my "go to" hotel for more than 20 years. Loved that place.

I miss that side of tha strip back than
The last time I was in Vegas I went into the Stardust, it was demolished a year later.
Ugh. What a rip off.
doesnt double the price but yes it is annoying but what can we do?

"The town will never be the same. After the Tangiers, the big corporations took it all over. Today it looks like Disneyland. And while the kids play cardboard pirates, Mommy and Daddy drop the house payments and Junior's college money on the poker slots. In the old days, dealers knew your name, what you drank, what you played...after the Teamsters got knocked out of the box, the corporations tore down practically every one of the old casinos..." ~ Ace Rothstein, 'Casino'.
"And where did the money come from to rebuild the pyramids? Junk bonds"
@@hugonongbri8100 "...and if you order room service, you'll be lucky to get it by Thursday..."
SteamPunk wow!
Nothing significant for them to save the building, plus it must have been an eye sore compared to all the more modern constructions there.
try explaining this to millenials with fried out dopamine receptors... THEY LIVE!
Krayp Steinz I only stay in iconic casinos while I’m there... el Cortez, stratosphere , Sahara before it was ruined etc.

Well... this didn’t age well. You’re gonna need to do an episode 2 to discuss how Coronavirus moved construction back ten more years.

This is the first time I've heard one of your videos. Very well done. Professional.
Parking fees, resort fees, and such is what I hate about much of california.

The Stardust was the first place I stayed in Vegas. Was in 1967, on my 21st birthday. I loved it.
Nice! I stayed there too on my 21st in '96 and won a car on a nickel slot machine. They gave me 13k for it!
It was an POS !
I'm surprised you only have 4 thumbs up, fucking corporate America came to Vegas and messed everything up.

A ten year contract paying Wayne Newton $25 million a year? I think I see the problem.
The tickets sold, cost more than enough to make that 3 or 4 times over.
And Newton still ended up broke.
Pretty sure it was 25 million for 10 years.

they ruined it by turning it into a Disneyland from hell!

Too bad the Riviera could not hang on until Resorts World opened. A remodeled and upgraded Riv would have been great in that area.

Everyone should stop going until they drop there prices and there resort fees and parking fees.
@marthagonzalez5528 if everyone stopped going they would probably tear everything down and make vegas a ghost town. Tourist industry tends to just close stuff down when money stops moving in, rarely do they ever just drop all their prices to accommodate to the consumers not going because of prices.

When I lived in Vegas in the early 80's the Stardust was far from "Classy" In the late 80's I stayed in the old rooms....... what a dump.
We should learn by our history, not tear it down. The tourists dictate the flow of money.People's values do change and that's why we also will change, with the times. It seems like every ten years, values and people change a LOT!
Haha the stardust was garbage. Just like all the older casinos.
Great video! I learned SO much about a subject I previously had zero interest in haha.
A little story of my own to add:
Sometime in the 90's a murder occurred at the sports book which at the time was on the north end of he property with two entrances and exits nearly side by side.
From a personal standpoint, that Asia theme does not appeal to me. I wonder how long it takes before Resorts World rebrands into something new?
Hopefully, before the Chinese exterior décor becomes too permanent.
Don't worry the recession is starting so when this monstrosity opens its days are numbered.
highsierra05 Genting has a very large customer base. The Unlucky Dragon was built by people who didn't know a thing about running a hotel.
If RW fails it will be a massive fail. The size of the RW alone makes Lucky Dragon look like a Holiday Inn Express.
Sad all the Vegas Icon hotels are gone. So loved the style they had. They need to bring it back. Those Hotels, and Prime Rib.
the original Stardust sign was so stylish
This ; 👏👏👏 very good homework on the 'Stardust ' . Bravo !
Incredible indepth documentary of The Stardust and Las Vegas's history in a detailed video collage! Very well done!
Born and raised and I am 55 now. The mob is still here. They just wear more expensive suits and have front men for the properties.
The old stardust was absolutely incredible. 1950s vegas was truely beautiful.
I do agree resort world will dominate the north end of the strip I am excited for it to open
angelsfan15 Resorts World and the expansion of the Las Vegas Convention Center alone will make the North Strip come alive again.
Wow that's a very detailed description of the history of Las Vegas it must to take you many hours to put this together.
Not only a comprehensive history recap, but also outstanding narrative. Great job!
Oh man. My first roommate in Vegas lived at that Budget Suites when he started at the Stardust. LOL
@@BrianShepler-w6x It was great for a long time, nice and quiet. Most everybody who lived there were casino workers, strippers, and hookers. A lot of people working swing shift, so everyone was mindful of day sleepers.
Screw that bring back the Stardust.
I always wondered what happened to the Stardust. I used to stay there as a kid with my parents. We loved the stardust and circus circus.
I loved the Stardust, and even though I was a "high-roller" (penny slots and a few bucks on the tables, lol) from the 80's until it closed. I rarely never paid for my rooms, always got upgrades, tix to the shows & the steak dinners. Thanks for the memories!
I been to Vegas one time, stayed at the Stardust. Saw the show where they pull Siegfried out of Roy.
6:12 That photo of Caesar’s surrounded by desert!
I lived in vegas and witnessed the stardust implosion in 2007. It was pretty crazy. You couldnt see 6 inches in front of you for about five minutes afterwards due to the black cloud of debris.
was everyone breathing asbestos for 5 minutes?
I don't know how I came across this, but this is an extraordinarily well put together documentary. 👍
Narration is way too hurried
Because it sounds stupid. No need for speed talking.
Contiguous?
Tangiers is pronounced "tan-jeers"
There are a number of pronunciation errors
Great video. Vegas was awesome before it became too corporate. I was a dice (craps) dealer at the Stardust back in the late 90s, sad to see it’s gone.
I worked at the stardust in 1988 as a busboy in the cafe. Interesting video
Good video! Can you do sahara next?
Is the Sahara still there?
@@cooldog60 no its not there anymore, i believe they closed it down back in 2011
Can you talk even faster too?
@SECAL02 The SLS is now renamed as the new Sahara!
Old school Vegas sounds so much more fun
It was
wish i could have seen all the classic casinos....... :(
@@rusty1187 The Plaza, Golden Nugget, and 4 Queens are still downtown.
What happened?? Simple... government got involved!!
Modern casinos all either look like corny theme park attractions or charmless office complexes.
Thank you for this video, as a Vegas native I found it really interesting and informative. Good job!
Used to love going there when I lived in Vegas in the 80’s…
Great video, I was a big fan of the Stardust.
Thanks for posting, I love Vegas!
New York New York is an eyesore? Have you seen Circus Circus?
PickelJars ForHillary the 2 hotels say New YorkX2 and CircusX2, ANOTHER ILLUMINATI CONFIRMED
Why ??? They look pretty good to me.

TEA miro you’re high
This was excellent information. I really appreciate you taking the time to do it. I am fascinated by the history and evolution of Vegas, in particular the strip. This was very well done and informative. I have subscribed for future updates!
Interesting history...caught Temptations mid 2000 while all still alive!
EXCELLENT presentation and very informative. You really did your homework.
