Ordered a slide for my xdm 9mm. Have received immediate follow up throughout the process. Sent in my factory slide for parts migration and hope to see it back within the month. Have been very satisfied with the process.
With my slide being a xdm I had to wait until they finished the new slide. I purchases in March and sent in my slide for parts migration and paint two months later in May. Following paint and assembly got the slide back late July.
That X axis touch-off on the probing cycle made me pucker when I saw it hit the probe shaft instead of the ruby, but then I saw it touched properly when it came back in for the fine touch. Whew!
They look awesome but the only problem I have with it I could buy a new gun for the price and the cuts for the rmr aren’t very deep so it sits high on the slide I love the idea of just ordering a new slide and having it ship to me but it’s cheaper to have my slide sent off to be cut
i ordered one for my xdm 3.8 compact and the well that the extractor sits in was machined too large to apply the tension necc. for the extractor to grab the casing. i sent it back and ordered the threaded barrel and short comp. your cust. svc. was excellent. having said that ive noticed that all of your slides are "out of stock" did you have to pull all of your stock off the shelves / and if so when will you have them in stock bcuz im still interested. on a side note the compensator was a FAIL it stripped its threads out after maybe 200 rounds thru it.
Thank you @impactajuvenile -- we do not current make 1911 slides; however, it is definitely planned in this coming 2017 year. Please check back with us and subscribe to our channel--as we'll be posting a lot more videos and announcements.
Ok. That is incredible! Did I read correctly in one of the comments that you can do that exact slide cuts for a glock 19 if I send in my own slide for $198? I don't need it cerakoted because I have blowndeadline right down the street. Is that correct in the price? Also what would be your lead time? Thanks 👍🏼👍🏼
+Design Dynamic thank you for your reply. I'm looking into purchasing one myself and there are so many options. I've been looking for a used one because you find them so much cheaper. I found a 08 vf2 for 20k and a 07vf3 for 50k
Hi Joe. We currently work on Springfield and Glock slides and cut our Raptor One designs along with (optional) RMR seat cuts. On a case by case basis, we have done custom customer requested cuts--but the cost varies depending on the complexity. Everything we do has to be CAD modeled first--as we do not do any manually machining.
+greatwhitebandit We do not currently offer them in stainless; however, we do plan on it this coming Spring. Please do sign up for our notification list on our website to be informed when we release new products.
I worked for a local Haas dealer when they just had the VF1, and rotatory table installs. I preferred LeBlond Makino maching and Mori Seiki turning. I work on subway cars now, civil service
KiNggluIss !! Absolutely! We're actually finalizing the details for that model now. We expect it to be available within about 1 week for orders. We'll be announcing it on Instagram if you follow us: instagram.com/designdynamictactical/
I plan on purchasing one of these, I want it to look exactly like that one. Is that the only style you guys make? I don't wanna order and get something different. I went on the website and there weren't any options so I assume this is the only style. Just wanna be sure before I drop 3 bills on it.
+AnimalMotherV2 Yes, the Raptor One design cut is currently the only style we offer. If you order a billet replacement slide, it will be exactly how it is pictured (same as in this video as well).
My email didn't go thru to the address you gave me, I was just wondering if the slide comes ready to drop in my barrel, rod and spring, and ready for sight installation. I was also wondering if I could get a picture of the brushed steel finished product and a pic of the polished steel cerakote finished product to determine which one I'm gonna go with. Thanks. My email is tony.m.palmer@gmail.com
Nick, Can you cut a TITANIUM SLIDE with your tooling?? Have a TAURUS 609 PRO Ti pistol that would be an awesome project like this…please let me know…thanks.
Hello. I would not recommend Ti for the slide. Aside from it being very expensive (just the raw barstock alone would be several hundred dollars--not including the machining expense) but Ti, although strong, is a fairly soft metal compared to steel alloy. You would see premature wearing locations such as the slide lock and breach face.
Well, the slide on my 609 PRO is made of TITANIUM…guess I should ask if you can machine some of those cut outs over the barrel. Mostly, it's for the ''COOL FACTOR' and a little weight loss as well. You're correct in saying the metal is 'SOFT'...mine shines up like a mirror when polished. Let me know.
Yes, definitely very cool and much lighter than steel--but just very costly, especially in a one-off scenario; and I'm unsure of the longevity of the slide after several thousand rounds with the softer metal. Sorry, we unfortunately do not work on any slides outside of Springfield and Glock at the moment. Since we're completely a CNC/CAD shop, doing one-off's is very expensive because we need to fully model the slide in CAD and then program the CNC/machining center to make the cuts; whereas perhaps a smaller shop with a manual mill can make basic cuts a lot easier with just a single slide. We're more set up for higher volume runs. Sorry my friend, wish we could help you.
Yes, we cut both front and rear factory spec dovetails standard. However, we do accommodate customer requests to leave them out (as with this example).
Hello. For Glocks, we currently only offer machining customer sent-in factory slides. The cost for a Glock 19 is $198.00. You can check out some photos and more information on our website page: designdynamictactical.com/glock-custom-build-work/ any other questions, please let me know.
+Olywa17 For new replacement billet slides--we're at about 20-30 days out (backed up on orders). For factory slides sent in for Raptor One cuts, we're at about 14 days. Feel free to email me at nick@designdynamictactical.com with any further questions.
We do not offer Raptor One cuts on XDm model slides, however, we do offer XDm aftermarket slides with the Raptor One cuts. Please email us at admin@designdynamictactical.com
4-$500 just for the slide plus the 50-$100 for cerakote? That is insanity! So here’s some free advice: sell cheaper, you will sell more= more profit. That mod cost more than the pistol itself.
Appreciate your perspective; however, there are two types of gun owners. Those who are satisfied with factory stock and those who want something with unique styling different from most everyone else at the range--as well as premium performance above and beyond factory stock. The latter of course comes at a premium due to higher-quality materials used, the amount of customization involved and precision CNC machining in which mass-produced factory slides cannot replicate (and be profitable due to their large production scale).
How are you doing this with no coolant running?
Out of curiosity, do you only do this with blank slides? Or could someone send you the their eom slide to get an optic milled to it?
Do you do slide and barrel work on factory slides? Xdm osp. Id like top and side cuts with barrel ports.
I've done some customization work on slides using the same kind of setup on a 4th-axis - thanks for sharing!
Ordered a slide for my xdm 9mm. Have received immediate follow up throughout the process. Sent in my factory slide for parts migration and hope to see it back within the month. Have been very satisfied with the process.
11matboyslim how long did it take to get it back?
With my slide being a xdm I had to wait until they finished the new slide. I purchases in March and sent in my slide for parts migration and paint two months later in May. Following paint and assembly got the slide back late July.
That X axis touch-off on the probing cycle made me pucker when I saw it hit the probe shaft instead of the ruby, but then I saw it touched properly when it came back in for the fine touch. Whew!
Really enjoyed watching what it took to make my latest slide. Can’t wait to finish this upgrade. Thanks
Been wanting an xd-s mod 2 slide but you guys refuse to make them
They look awesome but the only problem I have with it I could buy a new gun for the price and the cuts for the rmr aren’t very deep so it sits high on the slide I love the idea of just ordering a new slide and having it ship to me but it’s cheaper to have my slide sent off to be cut
Thats the coolest machine ive seen
Just ordered a Hellcat slide! Can't wait!
Do find the dimensions changing after hardening? If so do you compensate for that in the machining or do you do post hardening machining?
Could we see the fixture your using more ?
What cnc machine do you used?
Any plans to do hellcat slides?
i ordered one for my xdm 3.8 compact and the well that the extractor sits in was machined too large to apply the tension necc. for the extractor to grab the casing. i sent it back and ordered the threaded barrel and short comp. your cust. svc. was excellent. having said that ive noticed that all of your slides are "out of stock" did you have to pull all of your stock off the shelves / and if so when will you have them in stock bcuz im still interested. on a side note the compensator was a FAIL it stripped its threads out after maybe 200 rounds thru it.
will u be adding hellcat slide work?
How long did that take to cut?
Wish that i could get ahold of someone or a company to actaully work with me on a 1911 slide
Really nice work and video how can I get some work done on my springfield xd 40 subcompact I'm from California
Gorgeous!!! What approximate costs for a 1911 slide? Are scallop machining also possible? What's the turn around for the machining process ??
Thank you @impactajuvenile -- we do not current make 1911 slides; however, it is definitely planned in this coming 2017 year. Please check back with us and subscribe to our channel--as we'll be posting a lot more videos and announcements.
Can you do this for the XD Mod 2 9mm 5"? On your website you list 3.8"-5" barrels but also say that it won't work for the 5" tactical.
what CAM software do you use?
Thats awesome!! Wheres you get you tailstock and plate for 4th axis?
Where can I buy this machine
when will you have these in 40 and 45 mod 2
one of the coolest things I've ever seen. really interesting
I'm looking at doing some custom machine work on Glock 19 Slide. I was just curious how your fixture is holding the slide?
Ok. That is incredible! Did I read correctly in one of the comments that you can do that exact slide cuts for a glock 19 if I send in my own slide for $198? I don't need it cerakoted because I have blowndeadline right down the street. Is that correct in the price? Also what would be your lead time? Thanks 👍🏼👍🏼
Just emailed! can't wait for you guys to get back so I can drop off and get some work done! yall hiring? lol
Is this the full size XD?
Design dynamic which has machine do I see you using in this video? By the way I like the look of the slide.
Thank you @jayjdw! It's a 2014 Haas VF-2 with an HRT210 4th Axis/Rotary.
+Design Dynamic thank you for your reply. I'm looking into purchasing one myself and there are so many options. I've been looking for a used one because you find them so much cheaper. I found a 08 vf2 for 20k and a 07vf3 for 50k
do you do this kind of work for your customers and there pistol slides

Is this design able to be done on a S&W 9mm Shield?
We may be working on this soon!
What kind of Cnc machine is that? I've never seen anything like that before.
It's a Haas VF2 with 4th axis.
0.O $$$ wut.

Can we do on Xds 45 3.3?? How much does it cost?
whats the name of the machine used here?
A bit late on the response, but it appears to be a VF2 with umbrella tool changer, it could possibly be a VF1. Hard to tell from the view angle.
Got one just like it from Harbor Freight. @@OakwoodMachineWorks
Do you think you can do a 1911 slide?
Hi Michael. It's in the works for sure. Will be machined from billet steel as with all of our slides.
What mill are you using for this ???
It's a Haas VF2, however, our slides are now done on our new 2017 Haas VF4SS
what model is that machine you are using
It's a 2014 Haas VF2 and the 4th axis is a Haas HRT210 Rotary.
