Hi Andrew! So when you follow the method you just went through, it is NOT like just assigning proxies with the ProRes422 format? This seems like you are converting your files before importing them so the software is not using its proxies functions, it is just editing footage is the software sees it? Thanks for any clarification because this program you are describing is exactly what I am experiencing even AFTER making proxies from within Premiere Pro
Thanks for this! PremierePro was working fine previously then suddenly we had this lagging issue with the playback and we've been trying to fix this for days now and only this method worked! You literally saved our TH-cam life!!! Playback is now smoother than ever! 👏🏻
Great video. I have the ME adobe encoder. Shall i convert the footage first before putting it in the premiere pro? Not sure what settint to convert it too? I tried the settings you suggester and my computer wont open that file and play
So if my cameramen record with FS 7's and 9's and give me MXF files... would it pay for me to go through M.E. and convert the MXF files to pro res? I did it on 1 or 2 of my shows but man the files are 3 or 4 times larger... x 1 to 1.5 T per episode is big enough... :-)
Thanks for this info man. Was going to use proxy to edit my 4K footage but my system kept crashing so tried prores 422 and I was able to finish my video. However, my question is can I export my movie back to 4K without losing too much 4K quality?
I have only 1 issue. I made a subscribe animation in After Effects, and exported it with an alpha channel. But when I drag the .mov file into premiere and I use this, the Background is black... How to solve it?
Andrew this a great discovery for us new editors out here.. does this mean before i start editing i should convert all video files from h.264 to apple pro res 422 and then start my editing process...and then when I export it in Media encoder I should choose to convert back to h.264..is that correct thanks in advance.
If you want to edit in the highest quality possible then this method is the best. The only downside is the file sizes are much bigger. So if you don't have the space for this method, you could also setup proxies, which save space but still allow you to edit faster. See this video th-cam.com/video/0hvjTEssYJI/w-d-xo.html
this video is an answered prayer lol, came from Final Cut Pro x and trying to use PP more but it always lags on me and then I remember why I use fcpx 🥴

Yeah absolutely :) Prores is a super high end codec which has little to no compression.
4k 60 fps 10 bit log footage still laging in Premiere Pro 2024
laptop Specs : i9-11900H
64GB DDR4 RAM
16GB RTX 3080
2TB SSD

You need to use a ProRes that accepts alpha channels. Only ProRes 4444 supports alpha channels I believe :)
@@AndrewMurphyFilms Thanks for the fast reply, but I only have ProRes 422 LT and ProRes 422
@@takizoli Bugger. You can use GoPro Cineform then and just choose RGB + Alpha in the Channels drop down :)
@@AndrewMurphyFilms I found a workaround. I simply import it from AE without exporting :) The GoPro Cineform takes over 2 hours to do...
@@takizoli My goodness! Good work around :)
Is there a update because I have issues with fx30
This is why shooting on a BMPCC in proress or BMRAW is awesome! 😎 super easy to work with on my machine due to being less compressed
Sure is

Antyime dude
I always used Apple pro res at TAFE thought it wasn't possible to get on Win10 because well "Apple" ahahah. Thanks bud!
Yeah we used it in Uni as well, but never understood why!

LOL, glad it helped
This was super helpful man, thank you so much!
Anytime dude 🙏🙏
perfect bro!! thanks for sharing this
Anytime dude!
I'm assuming this won't work for Windows
You can use ProRes on windows. Just need to download it.
Interesting. Need to rewatch this again later on
👌👌 let me know how it goes for you
I tried editing in pro res like you said in the video after 2 years using h.264 but its giving me so much lag and idk why, Also i have 16gb ram
Hmmm very interesting. What prores did you convert to? The data rate of the ProRes might be too high for your computer to handle
Best video of the tube!
Thanks mate :)

Trying to use the videos with adobe premiere but, the preview playback just didn't seem to play. :(
Try restarting the software. I'd say it's a glitch :)
