thanks mate matt i ask a lot of people whats ahpned with my laptop nothing work great as before - then i realize its about gopro new codec and same time 4k resolution thak you its very helpfull
Ok, after watching this [and your previous video on the subject first], I think I have a pretty good idea of how to do this. I've tried this before, but it was not a good experience. I can see now what I did wrong. Thanks, Jim
Great! did you color correct/grade/edits "before" creating these proxies or did you create the proxies...toggle off" -create your color grade - THEN toggle proxies back on?
A mix of both. I usually will do corrections with them toggled on because I don’t notice much of difference in color and exposure in proxies I create. But I double check with them off at the end or after export at the least. Thanks for watching!
Cool. Didn't know about this. So, not having a super high performance PC is not an issue any more, at least for editing purposes, only when it comes to rendering.
Hey Matt when I do this and toggle proxies on the clip becomes really bright like it has added exposure. I have no idea why as the original file is fine and if I import the actual proxy file from the proxies folder on to my timeline it’s also ok. It’s only when I toggle proxies on this exposure issue happens and I just can’t edit with it! Any ideas at all?
Hey, this is a great question that I haven’t seen before. The only thing I can think of is maybe the original clip and the proxy clip have a different color space. Maybe the proxy file is bumping it to Rec 709? Try checking the original file in rec 709 to see if it matches the proxy. I’ll look into that further!
@@zefitech thanks bro! Yeah can’t find shit online about it surely I can’t be only one with this issue :/ When I click properties on the clip it shows me under Proxy Media it’s Rec 601. So idk if that might be the issue? If so do you know how I can alter it
Yeah I want to say that’s probably what’s causing the issue. I’m not sure what the source of the media is like what camera but putting everything in Rec 709 would probably make it easier
@@zefitech thanks bro. My mate shot it with a Sony a7iii. My timeline seq is set to rec 709 already but I don’t know how to change the p proxies to that if you know?
They say if you want to slow down your footage and use Proxies DO NOT interpret footage! Use the Speed/duration under the file menu and slow it down to however many % you need there and everything works fine.
My file destination for my proxy are in a folder on my desktop but the original videos are in the sd card dud to limited space and my proxies dont attach automatically like yours did any suggestions?
hey matt! you mention issues in frame rate -- could you specify? shot in different frame rates or altering frame rates in premiere? & is the best move to just not proxy for those files, or is there an alternate approach? ... thanks for everything!
Hi! I typically just ignore files of varying frame rates because I slowed them down using “interpret footage.” Some people have brought it to my attention that if you render the proxies for different frame rates and don’t interpret footage, instead just speed change in the timeline, you may be better off. So that’s good news
As far as Good overs goes, do you prefer to use a 2nd. party program like Audacity or Protools or do you prefer using Adobe premiere built in narration?

Great tutorial! Super helpful. I am having an issue with the "Effect Control" Motion setting is going to about half the resolution of the 4K Source File. If I want to keep the file in 4K, is that possible? Thanks
Fantastic question! I don’t believe so. It sounds like you’re referring to offline editing - so you’d have to relink all the media to the proxy files on the laptop. Still a great method!
It’s making a copy of our footage and compressing it into a codec that works better with Premiere, essentially. Most cameras don’t output files that are easy for our computer and Premiere to work with. This doesn’t affect the original footage at all when you go to export!
Xx Eezy Have you had any trouble editing 4k 30fps with proxies on your machine? Only asking because sometimes it’s the higher frame rates that cause issues. Another common issue is the speed of the drive that the files are on. Your setup definitely appears to be one that can handle the workload.
