As a 61 year old Petrolhead who has wrenched on nearly 20 cars I've owned over the years, I have to say this video is one of your best. Well done Freddie.
They built great fun cars in that era. I miss mine that was totalled by someone was hurrying in the rain one night. I'm hoping one day I'll be able to get another and restore it before they're all gone or outlawed for being internal combustion.
One of my favorite cars ive ever owned was a 1992 Taurus SHO 5 speed manual 24 DOHC yamaha racing engine. The 90s car were a rare breed you can't help but be nostalgic when you see one pass you.
Cause there’s nothing like old school cars where it’s all about skills and strength to drive all manual cars not none of this computerized driving same with my 18 wheelers 379 Peterbilt all skills and strength I hate computers driving me
I’ve owned a 1998 Mitsubishi Galant. I bought it brand new. There’s something special about Mitsubishis especially from the 90s. Yes they have faults but you can definitely sense the rally heritage in their cars. Great engines, good handling, beautiful designs, and comfortable cars. I have owned several cars since I sold it including a BMW E92. But no car touched my heart like Mitsubishi.
Dang that ending. You got me feeling emotional man. Not many guys I've met get emotional about their car. I get that connection. Great car, great friend, great sponsors, epic adventure. Thank you for this amazing video.
There's something about 90's cars... something magical. They aren't flashy, the interiors are cheap plastic. But find a good back road and the connection you feel with your car makes up for the lack of amenities. No distractions. Just you and the driveline
and they often seem like the vision of a man, not a corporation. They are often crazy, over the top because it was still possible to do that in normally priced cars. Love the 90s cars. All the electronic to go fast, but none to slow you down .
And you can do everything on your own. Most of the Cars you get today make it seem that the manufacturers want to keep you from doing things yourself. My first car in 2007 was a 19 Year old Mercedes Benz diesel built in 1988, which was my birth year. I loved that car so much, you could fill it up with 2 bottles of booze and it would run lmao. No joke! Engine had half a million on the clock the day i sold it and it had NOTHING wrong except changing a faulty diesel pump. Sold it because taxes got to expensive and i was just starting my apprenticeship and had little money. I miss that old thing to this day. Prob. not going to be as lucky to get it back. I would still run though, i`m certain of that!
3,000 emotional miles. Cars are meant to be driven. Every imperfection, every incident, every experience it takes you through, that is what makes a car. Not the price, not the rarity, but like you said Freddy, the soul.
@@lcray9597 I literally bought my white W202 Mercedes for 1,500.00 Euros. It sure has problems, but it's just such a pleasure to drive this thing. It isn't fast. If somebody would come to me, saying "If you sell your car, I'll give you a Lambo", I either would sell my car, sell the Lambo and buy mine back, or just say no
Hey Freddy, JP Here - thanks for the cameo and assist with the 996 Turbo! Turned out to be a five-cent washer that was cross-threaded on the clutch accumulator on top of the transmission. Once we got it in the air it took about thirty seconds to correct. Fun with 20-year old sports cars! Like for like, glad we could get you sorted in Santa Fe and you could give us a little push to get back on the road. Very much appreciated and that camaraderie is a centerpiece of the rally. Was a pleasure to run with you all & see you & Jared on the next one!
So.....after my last comment I’d like to say Jared is by far the best, best friend Jared a guy can have. Go far, do more stuff and congrats to you both, awesome achievement.
That intro has got me with chills. I couldn't agree more. My favorite car forever has been a 90-96 300ZX Twin Turbo. It's like meeting the right woman, it all makes sense once you've gotten to know her.
I was just starting high school after the first Fast and the Furious came out, so all my friends and I, naturally, wanted to be super cool street racers. For my first car I really wanted either a 3000GT V4 5-speed, a turbo 300zx 5-speed, or a 96' or newer Trans Am 6-speed (Or Supra or FD RX-7 but realistically they were far out of my price range). All I could afford in the end at 16 was a 95k miles, 1.8 liter Mazda MX-3 GS 5 speed with a flowmaster exhaust for $3,000. But it didn't stop me from (slowly) racing against friends haha. Today, looking a little deeper into the 3000GT when I know (slightly) more about cars it amazes me how awesome the 3000GT V4 was, especially for '94. That '94 VR4 was a coupe with a very advanced 4WD system and did 0-60 in like 5.2 seconds stock, and in early-mid 90's low 5's was really fast. Like, supercar territory. Ferrari 512 times. Serious beast. Probably closest thing you could get in the states to an R33 or R34 Skyline. Very pretty aesthetically too - love those long Japanese 90's coupes with that 'third door' partial hatch with huge spoiler. Some day, if I can financially swing it, I would like to get a clean '96+ Supra or clean 3000GT VR4 or FD RX-7. I might currently be running an American V8, but I grew up lusting after Japanese imports and they'll always have a special place in my heart.
angry zergling you and me sound like we’re basically the same age, and similar likes. My old truck that I drive when I’m not driving a company vehicle is a good old Chevy 350 engine but I have a very sweet spot in my heart for the Nissan 300zx or Mazda RX-7 FD. I’d love to find one and do something similar to this video with it.
@@blueline15 Yeah same! I couldn't really afford one of those cars similar to the ones we liked back in the day (at least not a reliable one) so last year I bought a 2007 Mustang GT 5-speed manual instead. It's not very fast but it's the fastest RWD manual car I could get for a decent price that still had low mileage, and it despite the 15 miles per gallon thing it fits the bill as a reliable daily driver. After going several years of driving a really slow fuel-efficiency mobile with an automatic it feels great to go zipping around banging through the gears in a loud ass car again. It really lit a fire in my soul and reminded me why we used to dream about cars and I hope that someday soon I'll be in the position to get one of those Japanese cars we'd all drool over back in high school.
@@angry_zergling nice, man. Nothing wrong with that. Owning fun cars, fortunately, doesn't ever have to stop with age and we have many decades of life to go to own those cars. My work has a '06 Mini w/ the 5-speed manual. It's not even the S model, however, I drive it the most since no one else likes the manual, and I'm not going to lie, it's a pretty fun little car to rip around in. Turns quick, sounds pretty good, and the torque kicks in around 3500-4k so it just asks to be driven hard.
@@blueline15 Hell yeah, a car doesn't have to have tons of horsepower and be rear/AWD to be fun. Really tiny FWD cars with manual transmissions can be tons of fun, too. Twisty-turny roads where you can really practice the technical aspects of driving. With more powerful vehicles you're always on the knife's edge if you're pushing them to their limits, but with more relaxed sports cars you can push them hard without making each turn a life-or-death series of decisions. So you can keep the pedal buried but still have a fun time without having your heart caught in your throat for the duration.
The 90s 300ZX is still one of my favorite cars of all time. Still love the way it looks today. All of the 90s Japanese sports cars were awesome. I also love the Supra and RX7 too. I ended up getting a 98 Eclipse GSX. Having sold it several years ago, I miss it now.
I still scratch my head on why car culture is dying away when I see videos like this. This was a great video, Tavarish, thanks for making this and congrats!! :)
That's why I truly love Alfa Romeo's and Italian cars in general. You never know on a long journey what can possibly go wrong and it is always an adventure. But when they work right, they are such a pleasure to drive. A big fan of yours from Portugal 🇵🇹
I spent 20 years plus to get myself a VR4. Had a base for 12 years with next to no issues. Just minor stuff. These cars are so awesome and so underrated and abused by so many. Keep this one save from the hacks, please.
Jared: "I slept on the hardest bed I've ever had with a fireplace blowing sit in my face all night and it was the best night's sleep I've ever got. My wake-up call was the recycling dumping glass in the morning and it was awesome because I didn't have to listen to the door chime of my phone, it's perfect! I'm ready!" That's how I feel too when I go on a car trip on good roads!! Thank you, Freddy. You changed the way I saw cars and gave me the inspiration to start wrenching, this time I learned how much I miss a good road, sometimes.
I must have missed something because I remember him being rather relaxed and wanting to sell it just so he can move to Florida. He got lucky that he got it back. If I would have bought it it would have been mine forever. Red on black, my dream combo, but hate the 99 spoiler, 97,98 was the best looking one, least functional, but still best looking on the car.
Only just discovered this channel and I watched all of this series in one sitting. @Tavarish - thanks for taking us on this journey with you. You really did capture the moment. Will be trying to catch up as quick as I can on all the content!
Good quality content. I really enjoyed watching this. If a like is all it takes to keep getting this content I wish I could multiply them as many times as I could. Tavarish I really enjoyed this.
Man, when you get emotional on your videos, I feel like someone finally understands me. I think most people think I'm crazy the way I treat and talk about my car, but you get it.
That car is so 90's and it's so awesome. I was still in high school when they first came out, and I wanted one so bad. Superb video. It captured all of the emotion and all of the fun. Best video I've seen in a long time.
Man, this pulled at me for my own love of the 3000GT. It was my second car.. first actual sports car. Just the SL non-turbo model with a 5-speed. I traded it on something else when the problems were more than I could afford at 17/18 years old.. and I’ve always wanted to replace it ever since with a 99 VR4. This film gave me the satisfaction of seeing another car guy not only have the same passion for the same car, but go do something about it and then enjoy the hell out of it. Thanks for this. Thanks for all the great passionate, personal content.
This is the kind of trip that will stay with you a life time. I was able to take a cross country motorcycle ride with my brother years ago and this video brought all those memories back. It was wonderful timing as I just lost him 2 weeks ago. Happy times that will be cherished forever. Thank You.
Gen 1 1990 jdm GTO owner here. RESPECT to you! Mine celebrates her 30th birthday next year! Had her for 3 years and never ran right(previous owner rebuilt engine with bigger injectors/cams etc and had to sell it as baby was on way),where i live no one knows about these cars but ive found someone finally! Jan 7 booked in for dyno and tune for her bday present.
I know this is an old video but I just watched all the videos about this car. How beautiful, THIS experience is what it's all about! A nice car that needed some love, the both of you putting in the time together, going on an adventure, meeting new people, driving along all the roads and sight seeing. What an experience. This is life!
What a beautiful experience. I truly see the connection you and this car share and it’s incredible. Getting reunited with your first love and achieving a dream like this doesn’t happen for many any people. And Jared, what an amazing friend, people like him are rare. Thank you for sharing this experience.
I cant even lie. @23:13 when the road clears up on your optional route I got goosebumps all over and my eyes got a little sweaty. I need to experience something like this. Thank you. This has been one incredible journey of a video.
Love your channel aar I have a 2019 ram 1500 that's been in and out of the shop for several months for electrical problems and they can't figure anything out so I feel your pain with you car bud
Some cars are the unicorns to a special owner and the GT is yours Tavarish. You are right, a car has a soul.. something that is beyond the sum of its parts, the sheer joy and experience of driving it through a landscape etched in time. How for the moment it connects you to why, with who and what we drive for.
Thats how you know you have a true connection with your car, its when you own the best of the best cars out there but you still prefer the mitsubishi over them and that connection between the driver and the car is truly special and important to when it comes to driving, EVEN if all you do is rip it down the streets in your car, nothing is better that to feel the connection everytime you look at the car and its inspiring to see the love between you and your 3000GT its something really special and its amazing to see people like you out there GOOD WORK.
Great video, i LOVE my Mitsubishi too. 15 years ive had it, and im not going to get rid of it any time soon. There is a gear box kit available for the 3000GT VR4, from PPG gearboxes here in Australia. Pretty much makes the bullet proof , Mitsubishi Australia was using them as a rebuild kit option.
Drove last summer from the west coast to the east coast, countless of stops and over 6000 miles of pure beauty. A thing that I recommend putting on your bucket list xD
@Tavarish I am new to your channel, the first vid I saw was you getting your car back, then watching you build it up and now the Dustball Rally. And I have to say that after watching your experience, and even tearing up at the end because I know how much this must have meant to you and see how happy it made you, it was so easy for me to click to subscribe to your channel because of this. I just got myself a 2015 Civic Si and within a few days I have lowered it, exhaust, rims and tires, some video cams front and back, some lighting, and just today I fitted a roof rack because I plan on making my own dream come true this coming summer. To drive from where I live in Winston Salem, NC to San Francisco, CA. Cross country road trip. No motels, we will be camping. And anything we see along the way, even if its 20 miles out of the way, we will go see it. So it wont be a straight shot. I am a freelance video/photographer and a license drone pilot with a new 4k drone, so I want to get tons and tons of footage of the country from coast to coast. Ive had this dream sense I was 17. Im 40 now, so its time. And after seeing your adventure, it makes me look forward to my own just that much more. Thank you and Jared Pink for sharing your own experience. Maybe Ill see you on the road sometime! :-)
By far for me at least this has been one of your best videos that you’ve put out. It embodies the nature of why we love cars.........It’s friendship not only with each as car people but those we meet along the way and how we touch each others lives in some small way Thanks so much for the ride along
This was a great youtube experience . If you love cars , love to work on cars , love to drive cars . Then you would love this video from beginning to end ... I'm going to say this and I don't know if this is something already being done , but there should be a TH-cam rally ! Where all the well known and not so well know car TH-cam's get together and have a road rally of there own ... I think it would truly be one of the greatest events on youtube , plus everyone would follow it because of the huge amount of viewer ship that you tube gets already from its car enthusiast .. Lastly I just want to say ,Great Job !
I just discovered your channel like 2-3 days ago, but i'm amazed of your passion for cars and your gratefulness for your friends and the journey by itself, thanks for this beautiful video, nearly got a bit emotional at the end.
I moved with my family to California from Maryland in 2017, settling two hours north of San Francisco. I love the Lost Coast and I’m glad you hung a left in Honeydew. Your car would not have survived going the other way towards Shelter Cove. I am so glad you got to experience Avenue of the Giants. My first time through it the beauty had me in tears. San Francisco is truly a unique city and one I love to frequent. Now you’ve got me wanting to go on a Dirtball run in my bare bones 89 Toyota pickup that’s pushing 300,000 miles.
I had a lot of memories in a dodge stealth just like the Mitsubishi, and I’m glad to see you have some of the same memories, that’s awesome you restored the car and took it on this journey with the good and the bad
im legit having tears rolling down, that was such an amazing journey! i loved this so much! Thank you Freddy and Jared for making my day with that documentary! Hope to be able to drive this rally at some point in life with my own car. Just have to figure out a way to bring it stateside lol.
Sir, you are truly living the dream. A re-discovered, beloved car alone is a dream come true for many, then you add a road trip, some of the country's best scenery and roads, a good friend, and lots of friendly strangers and you've got a experience you'll remember for a lifetime.
This as got to be your best video to date Freddie , no burn outs , no donuts , just epick driving with epick scenery .Well done to you and Jared Brilliant ..Bob in Ozz ..
Your so lucky to have such a great friend in Jarred , he's always smiling and super happy to help everyone out, you hit right on the head by calling him your mvp !!
That was so emotional and I really had same feelings too so I really understand it. You are awesome and is really great to see there is still real people out there doing real things, thank you soo muuch!
I see stories like these about cars and long road trips and I realize that I hate my job, hate the people I work with and wish I had the financial ability to do what you and Jared did everyday.. I’m not getting any younger and I may need to just say the hell with a job that sucks and enjoy what life I have left. Thanks for lighting a fire in my soul with this amazing video.
Fantastic video... Not just the drive but the storyline and scenery... Little speechless here and one thing I really need to mention is that I hope one day to have a friend like Jared. That guys heart is made of gold and even though I don't know you guys personally. It feels that way and deep respect for you two guys that just DO things... Not talking about it but just DO. Thank you for making my day on TH-cam worth the watch again.
This video made me miss my 98’ C5 Corvette. Lost it in an accident, I want another as close to it as possible. That was my dream car when I bought it and one of the only ones I’ve ever had an emotional attachment to. Something special about all of the 90’s cars.
ngl had a few tears roll down my face.... really hope one day i can do this with my dream car, a Mitsubishi Evo. This was a great video those views were SPECTACULAR 😢
Tavarish ive been watching your channel and love all of it, but this... Absolute best film yet. These are the things that we car lovers live for. The experience, the community, and the car. Thanks so much for taking us along for your journey and all the work you out into bringing us awesome content. I felt every bit of this. Thank you so much.
Tavarish, thank you for posting this video. I know now what I want to do with my life because of this. I didn't know what road I wanted to go down before this. My life has always been a sort of staying in one place for a few years now, never going anywhere. I want to work on cars now and eventually make it to the Dust Bowl Rally. Who knows, maybe one day we'll meet! Thanks so much for making this. And Jared didn't break the car! IT'S A MIRACLE!
1996 Ford Ranger, 4.0, single cab, short bed. I had it from 1998-2011. Purchased with 27k miles, left it with 334k miles. I knew every sound. I could FEEL how fast I was going. After hauling load after load of decorative rock, helping friends move, moving myself at least 12 times, going to/through 32 states, and getting married and having a kid, the transmission finally let go and it went to the recycler yard to become one of thousands of cubed wrecks. I have spent the last 2 years, since my divorce, looking for its replacement. Unfortunately, regardless of how bulletproof the 4.0 engine was, the rest of the truck is apparently hard to take care of. Nothing but junk found. I've had much newer cars. I've owned faster vehicles, more expensive vehicles, better looking vehicles, but all were heartless fiberglass, plastic, and cheap foreign crap. Were I a rich man, I'd own a showroom condition, "new", 1996 Ford Ranger to once again go coast to coast, drive daily, and thoroughly relive ages 19 to 30 in. I spent days straight in its comfy seats. It survived an ex girlfriend slamming it in neutral. I was even homeless for 11 months, sleeping in the cab (I'm 6'2" and weighed almost 300lbs at the time) at a rest stop on I-475. Everyone should have that ONE vehicle they'd rather do 70 mph in than some flashy sporty junk that can do 200. I'd trade a testicle AND a kidney to get that truck back as it was when I purchased it for 10 grand back in 1998.
One of the best video I've watched recently, the decent running 3000 GT, nice people on the road helping each other and main part is the nature 23:17 Maa shaa Allah

I bought a very abused and abandoned 95 VR4, had it 17 years now and its stronger than ever.
I still scratch my head on why car culture is dying away when I see videos like this. This was a great video, Tavarish, thanks for making this and congrats!! :)
because it isnt. at least not in america
Kids are more into coding these days. Instead of wrenching they're coding
Car are expensive, and it's expensive to maintain them.

That's my town lol
That's why I truly love Alfa Romeo's and Italian cars in general. You never know on a long journey what can possibly go wrong and it is always an adventure. But when they work right, they are such a pleasure to drive. A big fan of yours from Portugal 🇵🇹
Luis Malaquias Portugal has some amazing driving roads 👍
So when is this channel becoming Tavarish and Jared?
“Switzerland CO” was Douglas Pass. I just replaced all the signs on that road for the state. Very cool!
What?
What
I spent 20 years plus to get myself a VR4.
I'm ready!"
That's how I feel too when I go on a car trip on good roads!!
Thank you, Freddy. You changed the way I saw cars and gave me the inspiration to start wrenching, this time I learned how much I miss a good road, sometimes.
*SOOT
I remember when Tavarish had to let this car go. Like losing a part of him. I can relate. Epic to watch him reunite and enjoy it with his best friend.
Thank you and Jared for letting me be a Part of your journey. What an awesome trip 😀
Only just discovered this channel and I watched all of this series in one sitting. @Tavarish - thanks for taking us on this journey with you. You really did capture the moment. Will be trying to catch up as quick as I can on all the content!
Tavarish: drives on pure salt
Rust has entered the room
Go back to the first video there's already rusty issues under the chassis
@@curtisangeletti8198 that rust isnt shit. a bit of sanding and paint and it will be fine its just surface rust it didnt even flake off
You think that's rust? *laughs in Nova Scotian*
Good quality content. I really enjoyed watching this. If a like is all it takes to keep getting this content I wish I could multiply them as many times as I could. Tavarish I really enjoyed this.
Pure salt cause rust on it's own does it?
That goes to show the older cars are still more reliable than the newer ones 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽. Be blessed
Reliable somewhat, they just might need more love and maintenance. Old car problems. Who knows how well new cars will last with the same age
@@Aznderek67 they just need new rubber and gaskets after being so old. lots of work
Reliable, as in the car is worn and broken but it refuses to completely break down.

Man, when you get emotional on your videos, I feel like someone finally understands me. I think most people think I'm crazy the way I treat and talk about my car, but you get it.
Amen brother...
Some go way too far. I heard some people actually make love to their cars. That's weird shit.
That car is so 90's and it's so awesome. I was still in high school when they first came out, and I wanted one so bad. Superb video. It captured all of the emotion and all of the fun. Best video I've seen in a long time.
That Intro was so mature. U should do these narratives more often

Were going on a 3000 mile trip tomorrow.

It was awesome getting to finally meet you and Jared in person on this phenomenal adventure. I look forward to seeing you on future ones.
93 VR4 owner, loved this whole mini series from beginning to the end of it love your channel love the VR4 keep up the great content🙏🏼
Thank You.

Rust: I'm coming!
"Just... it's my car!" - Tavarish summing up the love of cars in four words
Amazing! Love the drone shots of the scenery & the 3000GT!
When that Porsche broke:
Jarred: hold my beer!
Prediction - 2025 and I'll still be reading the 'Hold my beer' crap.
Gorgeous car and worth saving. So many cars don’t get the opportunity to be saved and I’m glad yours did. Don’t ever sell it.
What a beautiful experience. I truly see the connection you and this car share and it’s incredible. Getting reunited with your first love and achieving a dream like this doesn’t happen for many any people. And Jared, what an amazing friend, people like him are rare. Thank you for sharing this experience.
I can't wait to see more of this car. I'm not gonna lie - I was tearing up at the end of the video ❤
Roads and scenery in Colorado are legendary, it's perfect if you stay away from the front range of the state.
The voice at the intro made me double check the name of the channel 😅
I kinda thought this was @Gears&Gasoline
I thought it was Mighty Car mods until the lack of Aussie accent kicked in
Jared the real MVP. Thanks for bringing us with you on your journey Tavarish.
I cant even lie. @23:13 when the road clears up on your optional route I got goosebumps all over and my eyes got a little sweaty. I need to experience something like this. Thank you. This has been one incredible journey of a video.
I love that car!! I just bought a 2019 Stingray a month ago, and it's been broken down for over 3 weeks. you scored! I'd love to do this someday.
Love your channel aar I have a 2019 ram 1500 that's been in and out of the shop for several months for electrical problems and they can't figure anything out so I feel your pain with you car bud
Firemallett 311 your truck would of been into the shop once if you’d live closer to South Main Auto 👌🏻
Man, the 3000GT is such an underrated car. This thing is an absolute beauty.
The start of the video is already lit
Love the Walmart jack for the Porsche
Great video, i LOVE my Mitsubishi too. 15 years ive had it, and im not going to get rid of it any time soon. There is a gear box kit available for the 3000GT VR4, from PPG gearboxes here in Australia. Pretty much makes the bullet proof , Mitsubishi Australia was using them as a rebuild kit option.
That is one of the moments when it feels good to be alive. I take my hat off to you men I'm a bit jealous I would love to do this one day.
Like the fact that you got your car back and the honesty and humbleness of your appreciation of it all.
Tavarish. I'm a VR4 entusiast myself and that's what draw me to your channel a couple years ago. Keep up the good work man :)
probably the most wholesome vlog i've seen in a while
I loved this - the time you must have spent on the edit... well, it shows. Another great production Freddy.
By far for me at least this has been one of your best videos that you’ve put out.
It embodies the nature of why we love cars.........It’s friendship not only with each as car people but those we meet along the way and how we touch each others lives in some small way
Thanks so much for the ride along
The production value at the 23:00 through the woods is cut together so well. 10/10
I wish Jared had a shop in my home town of Montreal. I would so trust him with my car repairs!
Check out "Nick's Garage" here on youtube. He is in the Montreal area.
Ah memories. This one was fun to film! Cant wait to be back out there on Dustball w/you in 2020!
Very underated comment. Were you using a drone or driving alongside? And plus, did they pack you in the boot or something?!?
Aww man yeah steath was great
"I think he took a wrong turn somewhere because we went from Colorado to Switzerland." lmao thats corny
Highway 550 from Durango to Ouray... an epic drive. ;)
Maybe he took a wrong turn in Albuquerque?!
im legit having tears rolling down, that was such an amazing journey! i loved this so much!

This video made me miss my 98’ C5 Corvette. Lost it in an accident, I want another as close to it as possible. That was my dream car when I bought it and one of the only ones I’ve ever had an emotional attachment to.
Something special about all of the 90’s cars.

Love the INTRO!!!
IT'S A MIRACLE!
who wouldn't want a friend like Jared? xd
This was amazing, thought me to love my car even more. Like you said, 'It's the soul.'
Buy an bad one cheap, and restorate it yourself. Better than anything else!
@Tavarish, this might be one of your best videos yet. I like your genuineness in this video. Keep it up.
