Hey, just a tip for when working with audio and the chord track. Do not just rely on the Follow mode but also set the proper Tune mode (in the Inspector window, just two steps down from Follow).
This is basically the time-stretch mode.
Depending on the audio material, the Default setting might work but it clearly doesn't on the vocals, as you've heard. Changing just the Follow mode might not be enough so experiment with the various Tune modes to get a proper time-stretch/chord follow.

Hi Mike! I have decided to make the switch from Cakewalk to Studio One. There are two reasons. First is because of the uncertainty with where Bandlab is going with Cakewalk. The second is because YOU are doing the same awesome tutorials for S1 that you have done with Cakewalk. Therefore I know I'm in excellent hands as I tackle this new learning curve! Thank you!

yep same reasons for me and same reasons to subscribe to Mike with my official music chanel( which at the moment is still empty but that too is gonna change soon ).

You are switching because someone else uses it. Lol wow. Cakewalk maybe on the mend.

Another concise, easy to undestand and well presented video. Thanks again. Enormously helpful.

Oh wow! You've just saved me hours and hours of work in the future! I always write my songs in whatever key I like at the time, and then have to keep transposing it up or down until I find the key in which I can sing the song. (I'm not a vocalist!) Until now I've had to adjust each instrument one at a time, and often I would save a new copy of the song and change that copy...just in case I messed things up. I sure appreciate you doing these videos, Mike. You are so practical! Thank you very much!

OMG - the tip about playing existing midi notes from the playhead (rather than from the actual start of the note) is an absolutely brilliant one! This has been a consistent problem that I just thought was the nature of midi and couldn't be solved!!! THANK YOU!

I’m producing music using studio 1 and I love it. There’s so much here it’s unbelievable although it has taken me awhile to learn my rhymes with it. This is excellent and I’ve subscribed today.

Thanks Mike! Another informative video, as usual. I also have a suggestion. Have you ever considered doing a series of videos that would take a song from pre-production through to mastering? I think is would be amazing.

Great work! My go to tutorials for Studio One after my switch from years of Ableton Live. Still love Ableton but it has certain limitations. Took a while to get my head around S1 basics but it’s starting to make much more sense. Great for orchestral and scoring. Track pre-sets are a real time saver and, for me, more intuitive than Ableton Instrument Racks.

Yeah - I find it little useful during a songwriting stage - for experimentation and maybe a rough demo, especially when using a guitar sample.

13:36 the reason your audio is sounding "chipmonkey" is because you need to change the algorithm used for audio processing from "Drums" to either "solo" or "sound".

@@studioonerevealedit would be a nice little feature to also see the fundamental of each note in hertz on the wheel. Like A1 = 55.

Again, a great tutorial. BUT, I do have a point of confusion with the chord track. Maybe I'm doing something wrong? Let's say that I first make a chord track and start assigning it different chords with that selector.
Now, it allows me to manually input the chord notes I want in that selector screen by pressing the virtual keyboard at the bottom. However, the instant I move on to another chord and then come back this "custom" chord with an inversion or what not, it actually just always reverts back to the most basic of shapes.
Also, if I drag a MIDI chord from an instrument to the chord track, it also transforms the same way (if you open the chord selector and/or if you drag that chord to a new track). So, it doesn't seem to retain the original information even though the "custom" chord is technically completely correct.
I kind of get why it does that, but still, I'm wondering if I'm missing something.
Do you have insights into this?

Hey mike, maybe making the switch from CWbB to Studio One: Cant this chord track be told to use CHORD INVERSIONS? chord inversions are important for good voice leading?

I've tried to get the transposition feature to work for me but nothing happens. Both midi and audio tracks stay as they were. I even created a test song with just an instrument track but couldn't get it to work on this either. Any thoughts?

I'm having this same problem. I'm doing exactly as he describes but my chords remain the same. They don't automatically change when I tell it to play a different chord. Did you figure this out by chance?

In fl studio, in the arrangement area, you know, we can arrange a kick as a wav track with one click, and then we can delete the wav we put with one click again by clicking on it. can you do the same feature in studio one?

I can't get it to work in Studio One 5.5 Pro (expensive version). I have no idea why but it's irritating to watch a video and be all excited and then go try it and it doesn't work when you're doing exactly as they described.

That’s the one thing Logic Pro does better honestly. Wish S1 made this easier. LP you audition the samples automatically in the song key.

    • @avinashps9854
      @avinashps9854 ปีที่แล้ว +6

LP doesn't have this exact feature and also it alters the sample's key only if it is apple loops and doesn't work with wave file

Hi Mike, being a Studio One user, I have been following all of your tutorials about vocal mixing. I am very keen to listen your suggestion on how to achieve this tonal effect from the reference video. I meant particularly the airiness and layering. If you listen to it you will understand what I mean. The vocal here is very crisp and airy. Do you have any suggestions on this?
