I found choosing card *was* surprisingly difficult. Grey matboard is fine for 'cheap' counters, but I now use white 580gsm card from a specialist, which is just over 1mm thick, and very smooth for adhesion (I found greyboard sometimes was coming away)
I have a stack of grey card so I am good for some time. If there are adhesion problems, however, it is good to know that the smooth card may be the answer.
