Why you Shouldn't go to Dundee University

  • Dundee University will be a terrible choice for you IF you are looking for something that the City can't give to you. If you want a huge hustle-bustle city... if you want a long commute... if you want miles of shopping... or if you want to jet off for international trips every fortnight... then Dundee honestly might not be a great fit for you.
    There are a bunch of reasons why I love Dundee Uni. But there are also a bunch of reasons why you might not want to come to Dundee.

    I do have a LOT of love for Dundee Uni... but it's not right for everyone. Moving or choosing where to live your life is a huge step and I'm gonna be honest with you here. There are a lot of things you should consider. Also yes. I may or may definitely still have salty feelings about the girl from 2nd year business class who told me she would have rather gone to St Andrews Uni instead.

      What a lovely calming voice you have Emma. I agree with you in relation to Dundee Uni. I graduated from there but the place was just too small and bigger city like Glasgow (where I come from) I should have went there. Emma if you ever want to read a story or do a blog it would be great 😀 x

    • @EmmaSandy
      @EmmaSandy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Congratulations! Edinburgh is bigger so there will be more opportunities, but living costs are also higher. Edinburgh has direct international flights, and Dundee is a little bit further to travel in to. At Napier you'll likely commute by bus. In Dundee everything will likely be within walking distance. I find socialising in Dundee can be spontaneous and cheaper. Socialising in Edinburgh requires (for me at least) more planning and travelling. Edinburgh has more cultural events. Go with your gut and best wishes.

      Hello, congratulations on coming to study in Dundee. The city has a very large student population, with a high number of international students. I have friends and colleagues who came to Dundee from India, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, New Zealand, Germany, Ghana, Brazil, Spain... In my opinion, Scotland is friendly to people moving here, often getting the nickname "New Scots". And Scotland has a particularly large festival, the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, which is a great cultural comedy festival. International cultures are celebrated. Also people who live here permanently (despite nationality) are often given the right to vote in Scottish elections- I hope this shows how the Scottish government respects people who make Scotland their home. I hope you feel very welcome here.

      The nightlife was good for me. The whole of Perth Road is full of good pubs. Within 5 minutes walk there was a handful of clubs to choose. Entry always cheap enough. Drinks pretty reasonable. A night out would cost 1/3 the amount to go out in Edinburgh/big city. I felt safe enough in a group. It was also MUCH more casual than a big city scene & I enjoyed dressing casual. Depends on what you're after.

      hi there! recent dundee graduate and upcoming dundee MSc student - there are lots of opportunities to undertake part-time jobs, however for the past year due to the pandemic it was hard for students to find part time jobs but it is getting better. DUSA, our student union, are currently hiring more student staff to work for part-time but also opportunities in the rest of the city. in comparison to the rest of Scotland, dundee is definitely very affordable in terms private accommodation/private letting agencies. you find that the further you are away from the main city campus the more affordable it gets, but you can be as far as a 10-20 min walk away from campus paying about 250-450 pounds per month for rent (but there are other factors contributing to this as well). in terms of university accommodation it is slightly more on the upper end of expenses, but again your monthly rent would include bills, electricity, wifi, water.. etc as one payment, where as when you privately let an apartment your rent does not include your bills. however dundee has 4 different accommodations, 2 on campus that are more on the higher end of the paying scale and the 2 off campus (one 5 mins away and another one 20 mins away walking) that are more affordable.

    This is COMPLETELY off-topic, and I imagine the channel owner will remove my post as soon as she reads it, but the following comments were made by myself on another TH-cam page which deals with the Gilgo Beach murders in the USA:
    Compulsion is exactly the right word. I agree with you when you say he has _"probably been at this since he was sexually active."_ At least you Americans are very open and candid about these things, and your 1st Amendment allows discussions about sickos; even outing them once they have served their sentences and have left prison is not against the law. In the UK, things are pretty different. There was a man who had raped a woman in Glasgow in 1985 when he was 37 years old and he then spent 8 years in prison for that rape. Fast forward one-and-a-half decades and the man now owns a hotel in Dundee, on the other side of Scotland. Old habits die hard, I guess, and in 2012 he fondled the breasts of a female guest who was asleep in one of the rooms at his hotel. And get this: he did not spend a day in prison for this sexual assault!!! However, he was later imprisoned for 8 months for battering a woman at his hotel, who needed hospital treatment. And get THIS: there was an online blog which warned women in Dundee to avoid staying at that hotel, called *Anderson's Guest House, 285 Perth Road, Dundee DD2 1JS, Scotland,* and this blog was removed after a few months, presumably at the request of the rapist himself. But the real travesty is this: how on EARTH does the Scottish Police (or whichever body that decides whether a person is suitable to operate a hotel or motel in Scotland) allow a RAPIST to own and run a HOTEL where unsuspecting female guests would be staying??? _Anderson's Guest House_ changed its name to *Lindale Guest House* shortly after the female guest was fondled in 2012, but one very much suspects that the claim that Lindale is under a new management is total BS. One suspects that the rapist is still the silent owner, but others are managing the guest house on his behalf. Which would also mean he still has the master key and still has access to the property! @@mensahaguidji5438 colleges here, even for small community colleges run about 10,000$ a year. The majority of classes have nothing to do with the degree itself, and you have to pay for absolutely everything even if you don't use it. Ex, if the school has a gym/weight room, they will charge you for a membership even if you don't use it.
      Also, entry level jobs are now requiring advanced degrees, which means you can easily be 100k$ in debt before you even start working.
