From what I've tested, I found that having different drop-time values for different situations help. For example if you are running through the woods, then a 1 sec drop time works great, versus a 3 second one used for a character gently moving through a scene.

This is the best tutorial on balancing I have watched, and I've gone through a few! This is clear, logical, and most importantly it has the right order of doing things! Almost everyone, including my manual, starts off with the camera/plate adjustments on top, but it is only by starting with the weights apart, minimum weight, fully telescoped-out drop test and going from there was I finally able to get it! I still have some micro adjustments, but it at least looks like it is supposed to now, instead of the twirly baton I had earlier! Thank you so much for the thought and detail.

Got a Neewar steadicam for less than $120. It looks like a molecule by molecule knock off of a Glidecam. I'm working on the relatively steep learning curve of never having done video before (I have a couple of Canon 70d's). I "get" this video and it's very helpfull but wonder why all of these guys who do them have like 18 inch bicepts

    • @santoshkiran1448

Because of carrying the steady cam for a long time. Either that happens or you build up your muscles beforehand.

Spinning on a glide cam isn't always a bad thing, it just means you have to pinch underneath the axis mechanism with your left hand every now and then to keep it straight.

    Hi Josh
Am facing a problem with fly cam balancing. After i leave holding it horizontally for the 2.5 second count, my camera goes downwards. Am forced to put weight and after putting weight it becomes heavy and cant hold it for a longer duration. I saw that you haven't put any weight below then also you are getting the perfect balance.
    Please help.

I've been trying for about three hours and it still isn't balanced. Getting general adjustments is fine, drop test works for judging weights, but the "finer adjustment" process is literally never-ending. It always sways. The most confusing part is the way that even if I do something minor like adjust the camera plates placement, overtime it seems like it's changing other factors. Like it'll slowly get worse as I make small adjustments and I'll check the drop time and it's changed, despite the fact I never touched the weights and only made really small adjustments to the head.

to stop spinning add some bearing oil to the bearing and spin it around to lube it up , make sure the bearings arent over tightened then when using the gimbal hold the handle with one hand and lightly hold the shaft of the gimbal to stop spinning . iv got some vlogs on my channel in which some clips were using the gimbal , so it does work just make sure you hold it correctly and check the bearings

i tried to balance my steadycam for the first time today and its so frustrating. its the flycam 5000 and there is no one thumbdial to make micro adjustments. i]you have to unscrew for knobs that hold it by friction and adjust it with your hand. i wish i got the HD5000. anyways i cant stop it from spinning and turning to the side when i do side to side movements, any tips?
