How do you know if you have an upstream or downstream?

The o2's are mounted before and after the catalytic converter. The ecu takes the data to determine the cats efficiency. The upstream is before the cat and is used for fuel trim corrections mainly, and the downstream is after the cat, normally that data is used for emission control.
