Forget abrasives... Denatured alcohol a quick rub with tissue, and evaporation soon leaves the pallete dry. Works well with plastic or metal watercolour palletes. Hope this may help.
Have this happened to me with my white nights plastic palette; discovering that phtalo blue does not wash off like you would expect from a watercolor.Since then I have use some nice square white ceramic plates I picked up at a second hand store for next go nothing. I will give these methods ago on my stained plastic one!
Update, I had 2 of those magic erasure sponges, actually bought for lifting watercolor, had read that tip somewhere on a forum, not yet tried out, still in the package. Hadn't thought about trying it on my stained palette🤪. Tried it out after seeing this vid; worked like a dream!
toothpaste and this white sponge have an abrasive effect - they damage the surface of the coating of your palette. this way, any new dirt will adhere even better in the future. I´m using a extra small white glass or porcelain plate for mixing. the color does not beads off & you can see better what you are mixing and doing. the plate is also easier to clean. if a stain should remain, soap or alcohol is also helpful to dissolve it, which evaporates without leaving any residue. some glass cleaner´s have spirit incl and soap works also fine. .. that´s enough.
Thanks Dom, yes you can easily repair them, I restored my 30 year old W/N palette box with enamel a while ago, here's a link to the video where I show photos of it, th-cam.com/video/x4SWstRlEPU/w-d-xo.html
I have been using brush soap to clean the palette for years, pretty good result. The sponge is quite abrasive, I used this sponge for kitchen and bathroom stains cleaning 😂. Hope your palette is OK. By the way, I would like to know if you have useful tips to make paints spread on plastic or metal palette like ceramic palette. Thanks for sharing this video!
I've used all of theses methods on plastic palettes and eventually they all seem to stop that beading up of paint that happens on plastic palettes, and the more you use plastic palettes the better they become,
that's magic! all three methods~ thank you so much for sharing this, i'll definitely try the toothpaste method on my other palettes. would you say the brush cleaner is abrasive at all? it seems to have given the best results. also, if/when you make the video public, may i suggest adding the word "stained" to your title? might give you more views :)
What!!! this video is unlisted, how did you find it? Anyway no worries, glad you found the video helpful, the brush cleaner is slightly abrasive but it doesn't scratch or leave marks on the palette, thanks for the suggestion on adding "stained" to the title :)
@@smoothie77drawingpainting i'm confused myself. so i went to your youtube channel page, clicked on playlists, and there's this playlist called "st Petersburg watercolours". when i clicked on this video, it does say it's unlisted. but check your settings, maybe you have the playlist itself public so this video in the playlist became public too? that's my theory.
@@PaintinHiding Yeah you're right, I just looked on the playlist and this video is playable on there, thanks for letting me know, its going public on Friday so its no big deal :)

Thank you for making this video, I really appreciate it. You saved my favorite mixing tray. 😄✨🎨🖌️
You're welcome, I'm glad it helped.
Wonderful I was very curious about this I stained my palette pretty well with a real dark green
Wow incredible!!! I couldn’t believe it this is great! Tried the toothpaste while watching this and worked like a charm! Thanks!
Nice tips. I usually use soap or baking soda with leamon for cleaning palettes, especially plastic ones.
Eucalyptus oil cleans stains from enamel and plastic palettes as well.
Some artists donot clean at all...but I love cleaning up
Great tips! I’ve used the magic eraser and toothpaste, but I will have to get a little jar of that brush cleaner just to try.
I found the brush cleaner to be the best.

i usually just use a pencil eraser on my palette, it doesn't seem like it leaves any residue? so i like that method :)
Dawn dishwashing liquid works like the soap. Maybe other brands as well. Rubbing alcohol works too.

Great tips, Smoothie. I wonder, if and when you eventually wear through the paint, you could repair the damage to the tin using white, enamel paint?

It would be much easier if that palette is detachable...like stay wet palettes have the extra removable palette... remove and clean
Cheap baby wipes work good for me.
Toothpaste literally made to remove stains from enamel! Tried cream cleaner?
Never tried cream cleaner, have you?
I haven't tried it yet but I'm glad it works!
Olive oil works like magic and doesn’t ruin your palette.
