    • @DracaliaRay
      @DracaliaRay 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      The American justice system is way too focused on punishment IMO. That’s why people have that impression that it’s the end of the road if you’re incarcerated. The system should be focused on helping the inmates turn their life around with therapy and education/training. Also there should be systems in place to help them get jobs when they get out. If they keep going back then that’s on them at that point.

    Honestly the guards here went off on Ryan for 'causing trouble' when Ryan tried to get a guy who literally had all the signs of an appendicitis, text book signs in fact, and tried to get the guards to treat him like a human being, and they literally could not care less if that guy died. They said it 'was just the flu' but honestly it could well have been a enflamed appendix and they literally just got lucky he didn't die, instead they totally dissed Ryan.
    if you ask me why Garza did so well i think is partly because of Ryan, that kindness, and example of what you can do when you make good choices, and being impressed with Ryan fixing his hand, that kind of stuff definitely influences people, especially people who are at a crossroad in their lives. Ryan deserved far better from the show, and I think the recognition he has gotten since proves that... These guards, and worse the guards who couldn't be bothered to call a doctor to ensure that guy didn't die, are the ones who showed themselves to be lacking, so painful to watch these guards sit here and act all like they are some kind of experts. The reason they did not show the guard telling Ryan not to say 'white collar crime' is because they didn't tell him that i almost guarantee it. Which is why they have no footage of it... just them telling Ryan to stick with whatever story he says first... Which is pretty darn obvious stuff...

    This is a REAL TRUE example that inmates are NOT scumbags or bad people. They may have to be or act hard or hateful in jail to stay safe but in the civilian world, they are kind, loving, caring, and respectable people who just made a mistake in life. I have made them myself. Don't judge a book by its cover.

    They always grill the participants about what they did wrong but they never question the guards for what they can do better. Saying the smartest thing that one guy to do was “lace up” yet, if the guards did their job properly hardly anyone would need/get to lace up.
    For starters how about 15 min rounds and instead of 6:15, 6:30, 6:45 make it unpredictable so the inmates can’t predict when the guards will arrive. Hire some guards that have more than a high school education maybe something like a background in psychology and a few UFC failures as muscle. How hard is it to have a squad of guards in each pod as a deterrent? Instead of having people fighting for their life in that 3 mins it takes the guards to respond. I can address their facility problems in one sentence. Lack of supervision of the inmates.
