    Another fantastic video Alex
    explaining the setup.
    I received my first touch screen yesterday and I'm looking forward to setting it all up .
    I too had a full 737 hardware cockpit but this is far superior
    Thanks

      Hi
      Iiyama 27 inch touch screens in my sim and a smaller one for the fms for the atr .
      Flight 1 atr and fs2004 any other sim couldn't handle all my touch screens believe me I've tried it (and also Alex will i think agreee)which replicates all the systems perfectly, I know this as I'm a type rated engineer on the atr

    I like your flight sim set up. If you wanted to add a co pilot, all you need is another windshield screen & another panel monitor. Than move the over head so it’s over the center pedestal.

    This is a great setup and can be quite immersive as you can actually switch aircraft. For me though it would not be a solution. The biggest con is that you need a very old simulator and old addons to have 2D panels - something you do not get in nowadays Prepar3D addons and even in FSX PMDG has done away with 2D panels in the 747 or 777. X-Plane does not know 2D popups with some exceptions. A pity because this could be a low cost alternative to expensive hardware panels. Thanks for explaining your setup to us!

    • @alexven1972

      Absolutely true!..........unfortunately this is the era of virtual cockpit. this is what simmers want and so this is what software houses will mostly develop.........and i agree with U on the fact that it is a shame: touch screen trainers are already developed by flight simulation industry (thinking about FLIGHTSAFETY as an example) and many airline pilots use them for part of their training.........for theese aspects i m still convinced that a complete touscreen environment is far more “realistic” than a virtual cockpit..........and you’re right: thanks to the actual low cost of touchscreens, a complete setup like mine is absolutely affordable and far less expensive than an complete hardware cockpit!

      @@alexven1972 I am trying to get into flight simming and I want a setup like yours. I am confused with the comments that the touch screen wont work in a modern sim. Why can't you just add multiple window views and adjust the virtual cockpit perspective of each and then use the touch screen like you would with a mouse?

    • @alexven1972
      @alexven1972  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mehdi Abderezai mmmmm.......multiple windows on different screens, each showing different part of the virtual cockpit.......i don t know if it is feasible. And if hypotetically one could obtain this result (i imagine that one should need at least 3 virtual cockpits opened simultaneously in each window!!) i think that the immense computing power requested could drastically diminish FPSs. U’ ll surely need a Monster-PC!! ;-)
      in my case i can get no more than 30 STABLE FPS on every condition, with any aircraft ( and consider that i m using 2d panels, fs2004 and my liquid-cooled I3770K processor is already overclocked to 4.2 Ghz!!)
      all the best

      @@alexven1972 Thank you for your insight. I don't have a sim setup yet, I'm researching what to get and think first I will try out VR and tip my toe into more elaborate setup if I think VR does not satisfy me.
      I'm guessing you have tried VR but prefer interactions with the flat screens, which I think I would too.
      One note, I was considering running two computers, one for outside view and one for the panels. So the FPS could be really low for the panels. For that I was considering widefs. Lastly, I think MSFS 2020 would bump your performance, since it uses multi core and I think that aspect of FS9 and FSX and even XP are still what keeps their performance tied to clock speed. I suspect MSFS2020 would also support networked computers (multiplayer?) out of the box.

    Hi Alex, I need your help building a King Air 350i flight sim with 8 displays of which 3 touchscreens. I really need help, I have a design, all the necessary parts except the touchscreen monitors and how to connect them to my simulator.
    How do I contact/discuss this project with you?

    • @alexven1972

      Hi Sam,
      As U probably understood seeing the video,the touch screen philosophy has many pros but also a lot of cons. this is primarly due to the fact that neither microsoft (flight simulator) or Laminar research (xplane) fully support touch screens in their respective softwares, and this is a real shame in my opinion, considering that a simmer could build a complete flexible cockpit without spending thousands and thousands of dollars (in my case i spent 2000€ for two 32” and one 27” capacitive touchscreens, wich are more than enough to build a single seater full cockpit). The best environment for touch screens is the availability of 2d panels, mainly operated by left clicks of the mouse. To my knowledge only FS 2004 has payware aircrafts that fully grant this (maybe a few aircraft are availabe also in fsx, but i m not sure as i m using FS2004 and i have NO experience with any other sim). with virtual cockpits i think that things could be cumbersome (never tried but i think that stretching the VR window across the touch screens could lead to bad appearance of the cockpit itself or to huge FPS drop). What i can say is that, using FS 2004 under windows 7 64, i have no problem doing what u see in the video (keep in mind that things may change using any other OS like Win 8 or 10!!). The touch screens I use (iiyama pro lite) are natively supported by Win 7, so practically I connected them to the pc with the usb cable, and the job was done! (no need for external drivers or similar things). Concerning the type of TS, i strongly reccomeng the CAPACITIVE technology (I had bad experience with IR overlays, wich are less expensive but also much less precise and more prone to ghost touches) So definetly, if U want to build a touch cockpit, it is a “trial and error” road (i suggest starting with only one capacitive TS and see how it works, before buying more TS!!).
      All the best
      Alex

      @@alexven1972 Hi there! I came across your setup about a year ago while researching for my own multi-screen setup, thanks to you I went ahead with a touchscreen setup!
      I am using FSX on Windows10, the touch functions work just as shown in your video. However i have issues with touch when in Fullscreen mode, so I'm running windowed mode with undocked windows, which I then use a software called "Borderless Gaming" to make it pseudo-full screen. Works like a charm! With undocked views, I can setup for virtual cockpit views if there's no 2D panels, but you'll have to zoom out a bit as the eyepoint in FSX drifts around when moving, and it can't be turned off.
      Some additional tricks i learnt, for the right clicks there is a setting where you can reduce the 'click and hold' time to less than 1 sec. As for the MCP/knobs, I've set up a fixed mousewheel just to touch and scroll, or use the knobs on my HC Bravo.
      Hope this information was useful to you as your video was to me!

    Question, once you detach screens is there any change in the fs setting to have the screens projected into the respective monitors? Or it’s on the connections?

    • @alexven1972
      @alexven1972  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      here s the procedure i use, in order:
      1) detach panel (right click), 2) drag it on the chosen monitor, 3) go full screen (ALT+ENTER) and resize the panel, 4) exit full screen (ALT+ENTER again) and
      the panel will return on the main screen. 5) Save the flight. Next time u ll load the flight U ll dont have to repeat all above steps: it ll be sufficient to right click on that panel and it will go automatically in position, then ALT+ENTER to go full screen and the trick is done!. I dont think it is possible to do this procedure through FS settings.
