      For the sliding under block glitch. It's very hard to pull off but on the last frame and pixel of the block you can slide of of it because the game thinks you are still on the block when in the air. I did it when I watched this to test it out to see if could maybe make it and surprisingly on one of my first attempt I got it so i was super confused...

      I think the reason there are 2 lakitus In that level now is because in the original when you killed the lakitu it would respawn halfway through the level if I remember correctly. So it was like there were 2 anyways, just never more than 1 on screen. So they probably just kept the second one and didn't disable it if there was already one.

      No, this is actually a remake using little to none of the original code, meaning the double jump was intentionally coded in.

      @@linkthepringlesman3951 They wouldn't intentionally code something like that. It's just an exploit of the mechanics that still works because they recreated broadly the same mechanics.

      Not sure if that's a strategy you want to use, though. Since Star and POW Block don't freeze time, I assume it doesn't work with those, which means you only have a 50% chance of getting a "double jump". And of course, no chance at all if you're fully powered up.

    The sound effect when taking a wrong path first appeared in Super Mario All-Stars for the SNES, and it was also present in Super Mario Bros. Deluxe for the GBC.

    Yeah, it was to be expected that most of the glitches were fixed.
    Imagine being able to go to the Minus World in SMB35.
    *Maybe next year, as it's World 36-1*

      Nintendo should definitely add 36-1, but add an actual ending to the level, and with some minor changes, that way, Minus World is clearable. They could even add the Japanese version, but remove the random Princess Toadstools, and therefore make 36-2, 36-3, and 36-4. The 36 would be blank in warp zones, just for that extra reference.
      It would be cool in my opinion, although 36-1 would need and ending with a few changes, and 36-1 should be a bit easier in level design to not be the exact same as the water level it would copy.

      @@dylanmerleking2651 That would be pretty strange. The original minus world requires you to clip through some blocks so the screen doesn't scroll far enough right to load the pipe exit locations. When it tries to warp to the unset location it reads garbage data as level data. How would that even begin to work in super mario 35 where they fixed wall clipping. Game devs also generally don't want you reading garbage data like that because anything can happen including crashes, freezes and save corruption.

      @@stupidAgeverificatio That’s not entirely true. It’s not garbage data. It’s legit warp zone data, but it’s the data for the world 4-2 warp zone (which only has one pipe in the centre, leading to world 5). The left and right pipes are set to 36, because the display tile for that byte is blank. When the screen fully scrolls, it switches out that data for the 1-2 warp zone data, and renders the message.

      The negative level in the original Super Mario Bros is unable to be finished to due to the level constantly repeating itself, after you initially complete it.

      In the original, I think the Lakitu would respawn if you killed him. I think that's why they added two in this version, since enemies should be more predictable in SMB35

      They rewrote it with the Mario Maker engine probably then changed some things to match SMB

    I noticed that if you stay in a bonus stage for some time, the "anti-camper" system will work and is not because there's a limit to be in a bonus stage, if you don't kill any enemies in the game, the game will think that you're camping even if you get coins/break blocks.

      Its actually based on screen scrolling, if you don't scroll the screen for 15 seconds, the anti-camper activates.

    0:56 The 2-2 Pipe clip was actually fixed in PAL Version by adding an extra block on the pipe.

      It was actually fixed in arcade VS. Super Mario Bros as well. Not sure whether VSSMB or PAL SMB came first

    4:44 yeah any enemy that is killable is able to be sent to someone else, interesting enough this also includes the Podoboos (Lava bubbles as they are called now) from the castle stages, in the original game they are completely invincible (starman mario can't destroy them). But here in the 35 version they can be sent by Starman Mario to another player.
    I saw this happen to Kosmic as he got killed by a Podoboo sent by another player in his video.

    Who would have thought that 90’s glitches from a small game company would have patched game-breaking bugs in 2020, having made some of the most successful games ever and with a larger than a small town of devs for their 35th-anniversary title? Who could have seen this coming?

    Pretty sure the double Lakitu in 4-1 is due to there being one placed at/near the mid point in the original game but this game doesn’t really have that feature so it spawns because it was placed there. 🤔

      Well its because if you kill the lakitu early (it spawns at the beginning of stage 4-1) in the original game it would respawn again which is why there's two placed there in the 35 version.

    Did anyone else ever have a moment in SMB35 where for some reason Mario jumped in such a way that his legs did a weird flutter animation like Luigi's flutter jump (in later games, it didn't exist in SMB)? I can't remember what I was doing exactly other than parkourinh through a whole bunch of enemies but I've been trying to replicate it since.

    Its fun to think SMB1 was the NES's vanilla hardware being pushed to its very limit. The NES games that followed it all had to contain enhancement chips built into the cartridges (commonly known as mappers) to be able to go beyond the vanilla hardware's limitations. One of the reasons the NES had such a long life span for a console: it got to cheat a bit due to what could be built into ROM cartridges and the growth rate of technology in through the 80s/early 90s.

    While it’s really difficult to accomplish, I’ve definitely punched those two sets of question blocks in the original game while running full speed without slowing down. I actually just went back to the NES game and did it again to make sure. The first set is pretty easy to punch, but the second set is much more difficult for some reason.
    Regardless, nice video showing off comparisons! I did a similar thing not too long ago with the SNES and NES SMB1 on Twitter.

    Interesting video, but in 4:18 - in Super Mario All-Stars version it does go "Bzzzt" and play a check mark sound on wrong/right paths respectively.

    1:38 the reason two lakitus spawn in 4-1 in 35 is because lakitu spawns were different in the original game. In SMB, when you killed a lakitu, another one would immediately spawn. This does not happen in 35, so they likely added another spawn to compensate for that.

      I'm surprised that there aren't three, because the level data for 4-1 in the original has three lakitu spawners [probably for spawning after loading mario at a checkpoint, since they're not needed for the respawning behavior]

    So many physics changes come down to crouching being treated differently. No sliding, no midair crouching, no duck-swimming... it’s like the SM35 developers never even played the original. /s

    I got a question for this series:
    If you go under the block on top of the pipe in 4 - 1's shortcut as small mario and then get a mushroom or fire flower from the roulette what will happen?

    I was also disappointed to find out I could not collect the 1up in 1-1 AND go down the warp pipe. The warp pipe is off screen before you can hit the block!

    you actually can slide under the power up block in 4-1 subarea. but it requires a different angle. you have to run from under the brick blocks and duck jump.

    In the original you could get on the right side of the screen by jumping on the very edges of a block
    Also the glitch where you pass through a block in coin heavens

    Looks like 35 was remade from scratch to act similar but not the same. I noticed koopa shells act different when stomping on it and it bouncing off a wall.

    Having 2 Lakitus onscreen in the original SMB requires hacking the level data. I found that the easy way.

    They literally made a combination of smb1s movement and of smm2's movement for mario so that it makes sense for the people that play both games. Yes there are some stuff that are hard for smb1 players like momentum or marios speed overall but all in all nintendo made a great battle royale game!

    Most of these glitches don't work as Nintendo opted to recreate the entire experience using seperate textures and common binary sounds rather than a running a modified Super Mario Bros. ROM, or maybe they couldn't due to limitations.

    What about what we used to call “Fire Baby Little”? On a castle when you had fire power and jumped on Koopa’s nose and the axe at the same time and took damage but stayed big. Then when you got the next fire flower you’d be small and grew when you shot a fireball.

    Ok well the experiment at 5:30 is wrong, how smb1 works is it takes your direction and pushes you the opposite way when you're in a block, and when you're halfway past a block and jump you will be pushed by it, so if you hold right (or left if you're facing left) when jumping more than halfway through a block then you will clip into the block, grab the power up without touching it

    One glitch I noticed in SMB 35 is that if you clip the right side of a mystery box (might also work on left side) just right while trying to jump on top a to collect a fire flower, you can collect it without going on top of the box. Happened a couple times while I was playing the other day.
    Q: Is this glitch present in SMB?

      Yes, and I think it's easier to do in the original SMB. And, it does also work on the left side, but I personally find it easier to do on the right side myself (maybe because that's the angle I usually use anyway).

    I only accidentally found the vine walk glitch in smb35, never saw it in smb1

    SMB35: Mario can touch the fire flower without picking it up.
    SMB: Mario can pick the fire flower up without touching it. (It happened to me once.)

      Its hitbox was way too big, then they reduced it too much.

    I think most of these glitches fail because the game's physics engine has changed, indicating that they did more than just running an emulation of SMB. So if its made with modern technology, then itd probs patch out a lot of glitches that was hard on 80s hardware

    4:17 that is weird, i remember there being a sound for going the wrong path...
    then again i only played the Deluxe edition of SMB1 on the Gameboy Color. so it was likely added there
