What I like about this is how Ray takes a good ballad, and souls it up and almost makes it a hymm out of it. What a loss to the music world. R.I.P. Mr Charles
And when country music was down for the count in the early 60's it was Ray Charles that saved it and revived it. It is quite obvious that Ray loved singing country songs. Yes, our great-grandchildren and their great-grandchildren will be listening to this one.
Two legends, one living, one not, one black, one white, doing it right, no BS....amazing. When all is said and done, my friends, you are looking at the heartbeat of America. Pretty nice isn't it?
Ray Charles sits at the top of the pop vocal chart, side by side with Elvis. When THESE TWO vocalists sang a song, it was autographed and made their own. There was something EXTRA special, and no other vocalist could do that song better. Instant gold. Today's talent cant sign aa song anywhere NEAR the signature voices of Ray Charles and Elvis Presley.
When my father was asked to hear a song on my new computer system sound system this is the one he chose. RIP father I miss you since you passed on 6 months ago. Brian
anyone who does not understand or believe in the greatness of these 2 legendary singers, need only watch this video and realize that willie and ray's pure musical genius is clear as day and totally undeniable even by the harshest critic.........
I dedicate this to all the peace loving Americans - and to all the men serving in all branches of the military. White, Black, Asians, Latinos, Islanders, etc. Peace to all of you and God Bless America.
Sometimes it's easy to forget what a great vocalist Willie is. Just another tool in his arsenal. The day Willie does really die will be a sad, sad, day. He's an American treasure.
Im Thirty now. I remember riding with my father hauling water in the oil fields in New Mexico as a child. One of my first memories is listening too this song. It still chokes me up.
This is my favourite song. I listen to metal and punk rock and loads of other music but nothing will be better than this. It was the first song daddy (I'm twelve and yes, I still call him daddy) taught me how to sing. I want it played at my funeral, and I want it played at my wedding. It's that special, that beautiful. :)
I was lucky enough to see Ray live at a small venue in 83, they blew the roof off the place and while he didn't have any current hit songs at that time he played not only his hits but new stuff as well. I don't mind saying I cried like I knew him when he went clear and to this day even with the huge success of the movie RAY, it will be many, many moons before people in general recognize him with the names we now hold as masters such as Beethoven, J.S. Bach, Vivaldi and others.
Only the oldies and all there wisdom and talent can make the hair stand up on the back of your neck. These men started a revolution in music that has not yet been matched.
