    If N-S/EW method is more than actual air distance,it's ok, more conservative for fuel mgmt, 3%cont.
    Thanks for your easy to understand method, truly a maths genius

    interesting. Each degree is 60 nautical miles. Therefore 60x120.228 = 7213.68 nm. Converting nm to km = 13359.74 km. A bit closer to the real answer. Your final equation is the same to calculate the angle of a celestial object at a specific location and time. I've been learning celestial navigation formulas the past week so searching came across your video. Nicely explained.

    The radius of the earth measures the distance from the top most layer of the sky to the center of the earth. The distance from the ground to space is 100 km so you ought to subtract that from the radius of the earth when measuring the distance between coordinates, right?

    How do you calculate cos 107°? it give me a negative result of course.
    I have learned with positive numbers (so FAJS would be +26°)
    i get: d= 0.298 + (0.657 x -0.29) wich gave me 0.107
    cos-1 0.107 is 83.85
    83.85 x 60 gave me 5031nm
    5031nm x 1.852= 9318km
    it is wrong and i don't know why.

    I know that this video is 5 years old yet still:
    With the central subtended angle method, you are calculating alpha (at ~12:00).
    If I type in the excat same calculation into my calculator with the exact same numbers, I get 1.0405371666633325 instead of 120.228 which means everything from there on just gives me incorrect results.
    Why do I get a different result on that term if I do everything just like you do?

    • @gpost001
      @gpost001 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe the input has to be in radians. Change your calculator from degrees into radians and you should be able to get the correct answer. I had the same result as you and changing the mode resulted in the correct answer.

    alpha is 1.1431 (rad). Convert to degree = 1.1431 * 180 / 3.1415 = 65.496 (degree). Why is 120.228 degree?

  • @stumbling

    Of course it couldn't be intuitive and use Φ for longitude and Θ for latitude. Phi and Theta are near enough pictograms of longitude and latitude, respectively! Screw the convention, I'm using them like that.

    will greatly appreciate a response

    • @heronimousbrapson863
      @heronimousbrapson863 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is merely one convention. East longitude is positive, west longitude is negative. Similarly, north latitude is positive and south latitude is negative.
