For me, Chick is one of the very few who are able to play a Monk tune so convincingly and really understand what this music is about. Actually very happy that Chick consistently includes Monk's tunes in his repertoire basically since the beginning.

Lord level. Shows the influence/mastery of so many styles, it's hard to list. One you might not be thinking of that I'm seeing in here is some Debussy two hand shape ideas, which I'm not sure if Monk was into, but sure had vast similarities from the whole tones to the various questioning/puzzling harmonies which eventually resolve, but maybe not in the way you expected. But resolving an idea wasn't exactly the intent of Monk anyway, LOL. Adding questions to an already complex situation seemed to have been his forte.
