    I think it would be a good idea to have Chef Skills challenges in the future where the badge up for grab isn't mentioned. The normals, if we can still call them that, are getting very good. I think by not telling them as the challenge being what's up for grabs they might having to call upon their entire repertoire of skills acquired over the years and really showcase what they've learnt. Maybe it's not the sollution for every badge and challenge, but certainly some blind testing wouldn't go amiss.

    This is a prime example of how much the normals have come, couple of years ago if they had this challenge. They probably be panicking like crazy, taking mins to think, wasting alot of food etc. But you can see they immediately when to planning and fast, they already knew in they minds how some dishes can be prep and finished later or adding on further at the end. They knew almost all of how to cook the dishes as well as really helping each other out on the ingredients. It like watching a unit work together, everyone knows their job and covering each other backs. Now there are definitely room for improvements, however this was quite solid. Good on you boys

    As someone with A LOT of food allergies, I often have to ask the restaurant/chef to make modifications to meals. Some places simply leave things out which can make food bland (but safe). However, occasionally chefs make modifications that are delicious and don’t leave me feeling like I’m missing out. I think it takes a lot of creativity and understanding of flavor combinations to make modifications on the fly. Another chef skill!

      I have a few allergies& intolerances, I always ring ahead before going to a restaurant, just don't like dropping it on someone. I did have one restaurant we used to go to where the chef's son had allergies so they were really helpful to the point I no longer needed to ring ahead. Unfortunately they are now closed. I have also had a few bad experiences at restaurant, although it's been a while, there's more awareness out there now.

    • @allibaker
      @allibaker 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      @@i-hate-handle-names reinvent the menu? Seriously? Pretty sure I stated that I just request things be left off. If the kitchen staff, the professionals, offers more creative modifications than I greatly appreciate it. I didn’t say I demand it, request it, or expect it in any way. I was saying how nice it is when a chef goes above and beyond in creative ways that I wouldn’t have thought of. And completely their choice as I would never ask them to do it. I carry a supply of medications and epipens in case of cross contamination. I try to order cautiously to avoid possible allergens, because it’s my responsibility to do so. Sheesh! Try to show appreciation for people going the extra mile and being kind, instead get accused of demanding staff reinvent menus. You must be fun to dine with!

    I think there could be a recipe writing badge badge. Normal 1 creates a dish, makes the dish and writes up a recipe for it. Normal 2 has to make the dish from normal 1's recipe but when they've finished the dish they need to write up a full restaurant description of the dish. Normal 3 then has to make the same dish without the recipe but only has the restaurant dish description and measured out ingredients and see how close they can get to the original dish.

    With the Chefs Skills Challenge I would love to see something like the "THE ULTIMATE *TRIPLE* CHOCOLATE BATTLE" again - all three cook the same, slightly shortened recipe under a time crunch. I dont now under which Chefs Skill but I think it would be a nice comparison of their overall skills in planing, execution etc.

      I want this done again but with the food team each picking something (so there's several orders and they can time when they want to place theirs). They don't have to be on camera, it can just be a piece of paper if they want- I just remember from other videos some of the team have allergies/preferences. I would also like to see Ben and James do this but with the normals ordering.

    I find it impressive that this particular challenge highlighted the ability to work relatively well together for having no professional experience in a kitchen.
    Usually close friends are the worst kitchen staff ever, they flounder about in a kitchen and completely muck up everything up in the perfect nightmare
    These guys went well together as a team of cooks, and made amazing-looking meals including avoiding any mentioned allergies and starting fresh when needed.
    I dare say you'll make decent chef-equivalents out of them yet!

    Amazing, I was literally thinking that it could be interesting to have a teamwork badge.
    Like, each normal is working towards a personal badge by cooking one part of the meal in a Pass it on format, meaning that if they dont do it well, the next person might have trouble earning their badge, forcing the normals to do their very best to help out the next person in line to make sure they can earn their badge or fail the entire challenge.

    All right normals it's time for your midterms.
    The food needs to make three identical plates of food for each normal to taste and then replicate that includes plating as well.
    There are no badges up for grabs however the normals must select five badges that they have and thus must show some skill in, or the badge is revoked.

    Working in a professional kitchen, I was on the am Saute station when my executive chef added a breakfast menu. Options included omelets to order, eggs to order - including poached, over easy, etc., French toast & pancakes with warm syrup, bacon, sausage - pork or chicken, house made home fries & choice of toasted bread. I had days where I had 20 covers in 1 hour but team work ensured that everything got out in a timely manner, hot & correct. Of course we had the mise en place down to a science AND we had had at least 1 practice run thru before actually opening for breakfast. All I can say is well done boys. 👏
