I love how informative these videos are! Sometimes people who make these kind of videos aren’t detailed enough, and I appreciate that you are specific with these facts.
Nice to see you posting again. Your video's were the first ones i watched when i got my Horsfield. I hope you are well, and look forward to seeing more x
An excellent tortoise video, you are the best tortoise keeper and giver of tortoise advice. I recommend everyone share this channel to their tortoise friends.
Great video but I do not understand the bag one. If I put a wet scourer in a sock and hand it in the corner of the non heated end of a tortoise table, under the lid of the boxed area or something, how does that increase humidity? Thanks very much in advance, I'm new to Tortoise keeping and I have a 2 month Eastern Hermann's in an open top table and I'm struggling to keep it humid. She had a humid hide filled with sprayed moss that she never goes into and deep substrate and live plants (mint, carex grass and a boston fern) Thank you 👍
Thanks for the information! I am planning on adopting my first tortoise and was deciding between a russian or cherryhead. I really like cherryheads and feel confident doing everything except keeping the humidity high as I've heard it's been a challenge. I have a 75 gallon setup currently which I plan to get rid of and get a bigger one when the time comes, do you think humidity would be a problem in a closed tank?
Hi love your videos ! My son and i have been watching all week. Thank you for all the amazing information. I was wondering where we can purchase that moss ?
Could you please make a video about what type of light do you use in your enclosures ? Not a lot of people talk about that in their videos and is the most stressing thing. i would like to know what type of UVB light do you use. Thank you so much I love watching your videos.
Hi, I’m new to owning my first leopard hatchlings and am really worried I’m doing it all wrong! I live in london and finding it hard to get the best advice… Your videos are truly the best! I have what I consider to be a decent table which my children helped me make. What is worrying me is that opinionated voices on various groups have told me that open tables are no good and it should be enclosed but then I see this video which is encouraging as I’m already doing several to keep humidity up. I was using beach chip mixed with coir but then the chap I got the hatchlings from said only beech chips for first year so replaced now I find out he may be wrong as they can pierce torts skim and should use top soil (pear free) so getting ready to change yet again. .. Especially after seeing your set ups!! Is there a recommendation for the soil? Some have mentioned wickes or b&M. Thanks again for your wonderful videos.
Congrats on your leopard hatchlings! My recommendation is open topped tortoise tables with a 50:50 mix of top soil with play pit sand. I sell the substrate for various breeds on my website www.happytortoises.com if you're interested. Great that you are doing lots of research into their care, yes - it can be confusing with conflicting information out there, but recommend going with advice from organisations that conduct field studies and have scientific data to support their claims.
Thanks so much for your lovely feedback, I'm glad you like the videos! Yes, I'll try to upload more frequently this year (thanks - yes, it does take a lot of time to prepare, film and edit each video but it's worth it if it helps my subscribers and our tortoises!) 🐢
I loved this video and so glad you are posting again! I have a 2-year-old spur-thighed tortoise and every time I put her food down, change the water, or doing anything in her enclosure she rushes over to me and tries to bite me 🙄 I was wondering whether you have any advice on how to make her feel less like I am a predator. It's not that I want to pick her up all the time or anything (obviously torts are not exactly cuddly animals) but I know a lot of tortoises like leg/shell stroking and are comfortable with it. Do you have any ideas? Possibly a video on it? Thank you so much!
Aw thanks so much for your lovely comment! 😍 This can happen for a number of reasons e.g. if you have hand-fed her in the past then she may see your hand as food (try feeding with e.g. salad tongs to see if she stops associating your hand with food); or her enclosure is too small as she needs more space/exercise; or it could be territorial (males tend to be more territorial than females, doesn't always happen though!); could be not enough variety of food or not enough food (check weights/growth rate etc).. lots of other reasons, but hopefully some things for you to try! Pls let me know how you get on! Thanks for the video suggestion - I'll add it to my video ideas list!
thanks, I'm glad you liked the video! I've got lots of videos on leopard tortoise husbandry but a good one to start with is the 'Getting set-up for your baby tortoise' as this gives advice on choosing a good breeder amongst other things. Also the video on 'basic health checks' so you know how to pick a healthy tortoise... etc
Humidity ranges for baby greek tortoises (and other breeds of tortoises) I've covered in another video 'Humidity: What are the recommended humidity ranges for tortoises' - link in the description.. (03:36 in that video if you want a quick answer! 😉)
Hello! sorry, I don't have a facebook page (a few people have asked me for that so I'd better get onto it asap! ..as soon as I've set one up I'll create a facebook link in my youtube channel). Thanks for the suggestion 😊

can you please help me with how to take care desert tortoises?
Is it necessary that we sprinkle calcium supplements in every meal of tortoise (I've baby star tortoise) reply if possible:)
What substrate is best for Herman’s tortoise
The substrate I'd recommend for Hermann's is the same as Greek tortoises (50:50 mix of organic top soil with playpit sand)
Is that why my hermann tortoise keeps getting upper respiratory infections
12:09 is it a sulcata and leopard hybrid?
That was BB, one of my female leopard tortoises (not a hybrid, all leopard! 😊)
@@happytortoises oh, thank you for the information!
