Great job! Step by step, you will prove the G clarinet to be a useful and beautiful instrument. It shouldn't have disappeared from the clarinet world. Now, as a basset clarinet and thanks to your work, has a lot to offer. It is widely used in other countries in folk music, but in our classical world, the G clarinet has almost no repertoire. Thanks for sharing!
@@andrewcordle2424 "Mi lagneró facendo", Mozart, written for 2 A clarinets, 1 G clarinet, 2 sopranos, and Bass. Haydn had also written for a G clarinet in ensembles.
All the best on your journey to become an instrument designer and maker, Jared! Looking forward to purchasing a basset clarinet (even a working prototype) from you.
Brilliant work. And thanks so much for your clear display and explanations of the technical aspects, including the bulbous bell. Do you use a standard Bb mouthpiece, or is it faced longer? And the reed?
Have you ever considered the idea of a Bohlen-Pierce clarinet? It's a clarinet that splits the perfect twelfth into 13 equal parts. I think Stephen Fox makes them.
@@Jared_De_Leon You can do some pretty traditional stuff with some non-traditional tunings. Bohlen-Pierce tuning is anything but traditional though, so I can see why people wouldn't be into it.
I did make a Bb basset for Bret Newton. I would like to make instructions but it is a very long process and it would be quite an effort to document everything unfortunately.
Ive always wanted there to be a Bassoon clarinet for some reason, not a very low clarinet(although there could be one also, along with other sizes),but a clarinet that is best notated in bass clef, with simalar to bassoon fingerings and a range similar to bassoon, so like a Bb clarinet with a low range to like Bb. I dont know really how it would work, but it would be cool. And also a soprano bassoon and sopranino bassoon.
Hi, is this instrument for sale? I play Italian fork music, and we have a (mezzosoprano?) bombarde in G as a lead instrument. This would be great as a single instrument for counterpoint, bass and occasional replacement of the lead.
I am curious which reeds one uses for the G clarinet? The Bb clarinet reed or an alto clarinet reed? (Is the mouthpiece larger or does it use a standard Bb clarinet mouthpiece?)
I played a Bass with the low eb-c keywork like that. It was awful, everything was always bending. But I suppose it's probably better on a smaller instrument.
Do you know Stephen Fox personally? I promptly thought of him when I saw the title of this video. Whenever I think of him, and whenever I think of the basset *clarinet* (specifically in A), I think of the Mozart passages that demand a low B.
It sounds like an English Horn in the lower register. So cool!
Genius work. Your intelligence and creativity is a credit to all of us!
Wow. You are wildly talented. Thanks for sharing all of your projects. They are really fun to see and hear.

I'm unaware of any repertoire specifically written for the G clarinet. Could you name something or a few pieces please?

Holy cats! This is amazing
...Bb Bassett next? 🤓
Prob more focus on the BBBb, but definitely a Bb that goes down to C, B or Bb would be sweet
Awesome video! It looks really nice and you demonstrated it well
Glad to see you are doing well. What a fun horn! The right thumb keys looked awesome.
Agreed, the thumb keys look sooo manageable
Where did you get the donor for this project? That's a real cool instrument and I'd love to have a g horn myself
It’s a blank joint from China. They’re $20 on eBay.
Fantastic!

Standard Bb mouthpiece with a slightly softer reed.
very impressive mate!

I have heard of them, but i'm not much of a fan of non-traditional tuning systems

Wow, I like it.
It may sound weird, but can you give plans/ instructions to how to do that? And: Can you do a Bb-Basset as well?
I did make a Bb basset for Bret Newton. I would like to make instructions but it is a very long process and it would be quite an effort to document everything unfortunately.
@@Jared_De_Leon can you try to make a video on it or post a picture of it with measurements?
That’s super cool! This might seem a little random but are you gonna have any streams any time soon? If you do I might have questions I wanna ask you
Maybe soon, you can also message me on Instagram any time if you want.
Jared De Leon of course. I suppose I could do that

There was, is called the chalumeau du bassoon.
@@Jared_De_Leon Intresting, That is cool, but like a modern one would be cool.
Instrumental Headquarters for sure, one of may projects I want to do.

Hello. Unfortunately it already sold last year.
Can you make a good Boheme A Clarinet?
Richard
What's the reason for no Eb in the Albert system?
So cool but why not stain the neck and bell black to match the black body?
It would look boring if it was all one color!
LOL 🤑
I am curious which reeds one uses for the G clarinet? The Bb clarinet reed or an alto clarinet reed? (Is the mouthpiece larger or does it use a standard Bb clarinet mouthpiece?)
Andrew Cordle it’s just a normal Bb mouthpiece, so it uses normal Bb reeds.
Thanks 🙏

Interesting, what kind was it? I think Amati makes basses like this.
@@Jared_De_Leon Yep, it was the Amati ACL 692
could you make a low c extension for a bass clarinet in the future?
I already have a low C bass so I have no need to.
Jared De Leon the reason I ask is that I have a low Eb bass and I wanted to see how you would go about building an extension to low C
Abedin Subashi usually the same process. Make a semi permanent extension that attaches to the lower tenon and add keywork for the thumb.
Now you can play alto flute music down an octave! Hurray?
Do you know Stephen Fox personally? I promptly thought of him when I saw the title of this video. Whenever I think of him, and whenever I think of the basset *clarinet* (specifically in A), I think of the Mozart passages that demand a low B.
I've only talked to him on Facebook.
Always looked out for one. Where to buy it ? ;)
This is the only one in the world at the moment :) A musician by the name of Richard Hayes has a Boehm system G clarinet to low C too.
@@Jared_De_Leon jep jep jep, but what about: I send you my G Clarinet, and you build the extension? :-)
I really like it too much. Can I buy it with you? How to contact you
You can reach me at octocontrabass@gmail.com. Be warned though, I really like it so it won’t be cheap haha.
@@Jared_De_Leon OK
I think I prefer the standard bell, to be honest. The bulbous bell sounds kind of nasal in my opinion.
Hi i have got a stuck cloth in my cleaninet do u know how to take it out
Try to pull it out backwards. If that doesn’t work It’s best to take it to a tech as you can do more damage trying to get it out yourself.
