Man, I can't agree more with the guys who have already commented. That car is so fixable, and especially with the mileage and how clean it was, worth fixing. It could have easily been another giveaway car that you spruced up a bit just like the others.
@@EldePHXBy your comment I tell that your completely unaware of the potential that any Civic from the 90s has. Those cars can be modified into a fun street car to a full race track star thanks to the plethora of OEM and aftermarket parts. Plus you can swap in more powerful Honda engines.
This channel is so nostalgic for me. It reminds me of the stuff I was doing 20 years ago with Hondas. Cobbling stuff together out of multiple cars just to get something to work.
Trust the process 🙏🏾🙏🏾💪🏾💪🏾 🔥🔥can’t wait to see how this turns out also man you got me in the intro when you stood on the car to pick up the head I thought you was bout to pick up the engine I was like holll uppp 😂
Can’t wait to see how it turns out!!! This is awesome and this is one of a dream of mine with a buddy that I have. We’ve been wanting to one day in the future own a little warehouse to work on cheap cars and continue having experience with tools and learning a lot more about cars and having fun with the builds. Keep it up man I love the content💪🏽💪🏽🔥
Not going to lie that rattle sounds like something as simple as a cam or crank sensor clipping something. Aftermarket sensors are never perfectly sized.
Very nice. Gives me continuing motivation to keep restoring my 00 EM1. She runs and drives, but she burning oil and can't pass CA smog for the life of me. :(
That engine noise is a vtec solenoid stuck open, triggering vtec as oil pressure increases, remove the solenoid and make sure it's clean, and the plunger moves freely, its normally dirt locking solenoid open.
besides the trunk being pushed in that sedan was clean. ive been looking for a non rusty clean sedan for years. how do you manage to find one with 156k thats crazy. if i where u i would’ve just fixed the rear end on the sedan. the quarter panels where fine it was literally only the trunk
That silver sedan looks cleaner than 90% of the cars here in Wisconsin. Looks like it could be repaired, but I know that wasn't your intention. Gotta do what you gotta do
Man, I am rackin’ my brain, trying to pinpoint what I think that sound is!? My gut says it could be the IACV (idle air control valve) that may be stuck open and needs that internal piece tightened. If I was thinking way out in left field, the alternator was handling the load for that ‘boom boom’ stereo system for a while.. may have prematurely gone bad. 🤷🏼 You’ll figure it out, I’m sure. Love this series. Keep the beard.
Could be the lost motion assembly aka valve lifters. Was the enigine sitting for a long time? Still doesn't explain why u pulled the head as everything is reachable without removing.
Unless it's a vtec motor it wouldn't have lmas. I don't believe this is a vtec motor. But if it is, you probably wouldn't hear a noise until vtec is active. If it were stuck lmas the cam would snap.
@@Mr.Wongburger i believe this d16 has vtec. And they can make a lot of noise before completely "freezing" and snapping the vtec lobe. Bad librication, taking them out and mixing them up,.. i'm not saying this is certainly the problem but it could be. Could also be piston slap but doubt it.
@@TheTechnoaddict Went back and looked. It definitely has a vtec solenoid on it, so it is a vtec head. As far as the lmas being frozen though. I offered my explanation based on my experience of snapping a camshaft due to them failing. If they are stuck in the up position they will not allow for the rocker to go down which would cause the cam lobe to break. If it does push down I would assume that it would stay in that position allowing the vtec rocker to freely move up and down. So it's possible it makes noise in that case, but I don't think it would be intermittent. It sounds like a valve hitting the top of the piston until the rpms change which then changes the timing of the valves opening and closing. My guess is mechanical timing being off. But, until they reveal what it is, that sound could be 20 things.
@@Mr.Wongburger if it's not completely frozen it can make noise cause it's not going up and down fast enough and having 2 much preload. But you are right, could be lot of things. There should be a clear mark on the piston from the valve if it was mechanical timing. But still don't understand why sending it to a machine shop. Get a decent Honda tech to look at it. Or anyone with experience with these heads. Or just take the rocker assembly of and look. Probably is gonna be pretty obvious where the problem is.
@@TheTechnoaddict I felt the same about the piston, but he didn't show us the block. The head could be going to the machine shop because the valve was bent from tapping. It wouldn't be worth the cost to have that fixed in my opinion if that's the problem though.
Hey man, I am wondering. How much does that car lift costs that you have in the garage? it looks really handy. And also what is the max weight it can handle jacked up in the air? Great video btw! :) Subbed when the first episode came out :)
Bro to be honest I think the silver civic can be saved with a little bit of hammer 🔨 work and some pulling i think some one can save it and put a new trunk lid and done.
I'm kinda disappointed in engine swap instead of diagnosis of the original engine and trying to repair it. Cool stuff but I felt like old engine wasn't a trash
Exactly what happened with me I'm puzzled on that still and stopped watching him, would have been better to see at least 1 vid of trying g to solve it atleast

Haha thats an awesome term "Lunch break channels"
Bro chop off the end of the sedan and slap a hatch on it 😂
Really good idea
Dude yessss I was thinking the same thing 😂
Some guy I follow on TikTok did that.
Man! That silver sedan would be perfect for a 4dr hatch conversion!!!
99-00 front end swap would be a cool add on too. No need to grab new fenders
May as well do a facelift conversion on the coupe!
Looking forward to the end results.

Sounds like a valve tapping the piston. How was the mechanical timing?

You should save the 4dr and make it into a 4dr hatchback
can you enter for the car in Canada?
Don't think so
Sadly no due to cost , just fly over and pick it up 🤣
Major props to that door knob 😂😂😂
Turn that into a 4door hatch seen one at the last show I went to an looked awesome love seeing the honda game staying alive
Definitely keep the beard broski.. fire content as usual
Appreciate it!!
You check if a Heat shield bolt is loose? With the washer rattling
What lift is that ? Can u comment a link in here for it
I know, I'm interested too. Would love that for our channel. Wonder how much $$$
I would have checked the valve clearances before pulling the head but that would have been less content than changing the engine so I get it
Me2
Rear quarters can be used to repair the red one
Can you let me know if the wheels are 14 inch or 15 inch and what the selling price?
It’s not rod knock, I think it might be a stuck open Vtec solenoid take it off and try cleaning it and putting it back in

Isn’t it funny how civics just multiply? You buy one and then all of a sudden there are four.
Hahah they're too fun. Let's link on some Honda content 🤝🏻
the sound is like mister krabs' footsteps
Where are you located?
whats the name of your car lift ???
Sounds mike rocker arm or valve lash needs doing
Can also switch front end
The silver one was in way better shape. I would have made a 4dr hatchback. There’s a couple of them around and I love them 😂
Bearded Band of Brothers!
Looking for full ac system and windshield lines and resavoir
2:42 That is wayyy more than just a „tiny dent“
How much for the front fenders
Good candidate for a 4dr hatch build
Turn the silver one into a pickup!
Haha I like this idea
What year is the car
Good thing that car got rear-ended...that's not what I ment...it's just that...SCORE!!
lets goooo!!!!
sounds like the flux capacitor imo
Sound goes away at 88 mph!🤣
Sounds like valve chatter. Re-tourge them to factory specs.
Finallyyyyy
Sounds like maybe a valve lash

dude i love the beard
Piston slap?
Maxpeedingrods T7 coilovers
perfect for a mini me swap
Yeah keep the beard homie.
Just remember to use your original distributor from the 96.
Sounds like the timing belt had too much slack and was hitting on the timing cover
I like to buy the power steering and ac.
tbh that sedan just needs a trunk and a little work to make it line up and you are good to go
And should convert the front on the red one to 00 front end
4 door hatch?
Sounds like a timing belt tensioner
Turn that silver car into a four-door hatch
why didn't you just take the battery out of the red car for a minute and slap it into the grey one to move it?
Could that noise be the cat starting to collapse
LX motor doesn't have VTEC like the EX motor
Its has a vtec head
Please turn the 4 door civic into a hatch back 🫶
More like a ute!
Yo new vid!
Ex and LX share the same engine ? I believe lx is non vtec so you’ll be losing vtec on the ex model… which isn’t good lol
I forgot to mention this has a vtec head on the Y7
That’s the valves tapping the valve cover, I think
Would you be able to ship the car to South Africa if I or any other South African win the giveaway?
Rules on the site 👍🏻
Wait.... No more vtec?
Has a vtec head
Something is either loose or wrong sizing.
LX and EX have different engines though
Please fix the 4door
Its still possible
