  • A very special (not to mention historic!) session with Gary Groth (founder and publisher of the Comics Journal, and Fantagraphics 'Publisher of the World's Greatest Cartoonists') in conversation with Mr. Robert Crumb, hailed as the founder of the Underground Comix Movement, and for 'deflowering' comics everywhere!
This session was recorded live at on 19th February, on the final day of the Second Annual Indian Comics Convention, held at Dilli Haat, New Delhi.

10:24 I totally agree. Art should be available to everyone. Not just the very rich. It reminds me of Albrecht Durer and his use of the printing press. Only the rich in Nuremberg at that time could afford a painting commission. But everyone could afford a woodcut of silverpoint print.

It's frustrating to be an illustrator these days as print doesn't support it like it did in the past.

what does he mean that people don't buy comics anymore and Marvel can't make money? so, what do comic artists do now? is it a dying art?

Yeah, it's pretty marginal. But hasn't that always been so? (except for select short periods). But it won't die. I thought so in 2000, but arguable the best stuff ever is being published now. Also I think that U.S. should take an example from Japan. Manga sells in the millions and for more reasons than just because it's more accepted in Japanese society.
