  • Legendary Underground Cartoonist Aline Crumb Discusses Her New Book, Drawn Together with musician John Heneghan.
The name "Crumb" is synonymous with underground cartoons. Aline Crumb, part of the famed cartooning couple, joins us in the Rare Book Room in conversation with musician John Heneghan, of the East River String Band. She discusses her new book Drawn Together, a touching, tender account of her legendary marriage to R. Crumb, their success at shocking America with Weirdo magazine, the birth of their child Sophie, and the family's move to the beautiful safe haven of France.

I watch John Heneghan to make sense of my Stefan Grossman delta blues books from the 70's that didn't come with VHS or DVD's.
He's the most authentic guitarist of that kind of thing that I've seen.

OMG! Binky Brown was one of my first comics after I discovered Crumb! Then Dori Seda (RIP) and then a slew of crazy and AMAZING underground comics. It made my life so much more happy between drug freakouts in Tompkins & WSP.

I'm a great admirer of R. Crumb, but I am NOT buying into the bullshit that his wife is a major artist. She's actually a very minor talent who nobody would ever look at if she wasn't Crumb's wife. Whenever Crumb does these duo comics with his wife----- the result is really inferior to the extremely high level of talent and genius that Crumb displays on his own. Aline Crumb is just riding the wave of her husband's success and that's OK, but don't try to fool me that she deserves this kind of public recognition.

This random crap about taking a rope into her teeth and saving everybody with it is on par with magical realism Nobel-winning literary "giants" :)
