My main household rn has a greenhouse in the back of the lot with a little bathroom so they don’t have to go across the lot and the stairs to pee when working. Not only will they sometimes wash dishes in the greenhouse, they will use the toilet in the house and walk out to the greenhouse to wash their hands. The bathroom in their house has the toilet and sink RIGHT next to each other. Not a single tile in between. They’ll ignore it to go to the greenhouse.

This is so odd to me considering what the gamechangers have been saying about lots they've built in recent packs. It makes you wonder how any of these builds ever got approved.

I moved the front door from the carpet room to the hallway, moved the archway from the carpet room to the “bedroom” and turned that into the livingroom. Then the room that was a “livingroom” became the master bedroom. After that I deleted the back door and at the end of the hall placed an archway for the kitchen. The entire house flows a million times better that way. I think who ever designed it first either slapped something together or came to work drunk that day. 😂

Real life homes aren't planned very well, either.
Say i want to do laundry and i'm in my bedroom on the second floor. I gather the clothes and go down the stairs at the far left side of the house only to have to go through the living room, dining room, and kitchen, to get to the stairs on the far left of the house to go to the basement. And the laundry is at the farthest point from the bottom of the steps.
Say i want to vacuum my carpeted stairs. I have to go get an extension cord because the nearest outlets are _in the rooms_ upstairs instead of the hallway *or* _on every wall but_ the wall that has the stairs.
I tried making my house in the sims and had to scrap the second bathroom because you couldn't put it directly at the landing of stairs and you can't fit a toilet, sink, and door in a 2 by 1 space (toilet to the side, sink and door in the same space) right at said stairs. The house looked cool, but its design meant kids went to school hungry because they didn't make it to the kitchen in time for breakfast having to circle the house 2 times from their bedroom on the second floor to the kitchen.

I like starting with this house as a shell and modifying it. As a furnished house it's terrible but empty it's full of possibilities.

I also hated pink when I was a kid but really like it now, I think it was a reaction to the colour pink being forced on me as a little girl is why I hated it so much because I know quite a few other women who had a similar hate-to-love pink glow up!

Big brain moment: what if the sims team actually makes the houses this bad so we can renovate them and have something to do? Hehehe.

It's funny how those parental rules about kitchens stick with you. My mom always complained when the fridge, stove, and sink was on the same wall. All my kitchens are U-shaped now. Fridge on one wall, stove on another, and the sink on a third.

Jesse, love, you would absolutely HATE my house. I live in a 1960s ranch style house that has an absurdly long hallway with ONE pathetic little ceiling light that’s not even in the middle of the hallway so it’s dim on both ends, but flat out dark at the very end of the hall. And the light is disturbingly even slightly off center of the width of the hall (I hope that makes sense).

The fridge in my apartment in real life is right next to the oven lol. It is a large early-1800's Vermont house that's now three apartments, one on each floor, and it's been remodeled probably a hundred times.

  • @HerHollyness

Ok, first of all, THANK YOU! I never understand why every build I see has fridges and ovens right next to each other. This has been the case ever since TS1! Is it an American thing? The first thing I do is always move the oven away from the fridge. You don’t put the hottest thing in your kitchen right next to the thing that’s trying to keep everything cold!
However, second of all, kitchens should be at the back of the house. Look at the design of any house and you will notice that the kitchen is at the back and the lounge is at the front. So that’s one thing this house had right. Where you’ve put it is more like where a bedroom would be.
