Gibson handled a massive loss like a true champ. Great win for Larkin but I gained some major respect for Gibson in this match.
I don't really follow high school wrestling but here is what impressed me the most: Larkin had that match won prior to the reset with 14 seconds left. He could have just laid on top of Gibson for the last 14 seconds and coasted to the win.
But no, he went to work to tech Gibson and make a statement. That's intense.
Well...if you don't follow HS but you do follow College, you're going to hear about this kid and his family(Gibson) for a LOOOONG time!
There is a pipeline coming through. His older Brother Eric Gibson is a stud who just committed to Cornell...took a 3rd/6th and then didn't wrestle at the PA state title(so far as I can tell)...but he's an All American and there have been a LOT of guys who didn't win a PA state title who've won NCAA titles.
He's probably the 5th best prospect in his own family. His brother in this video and then the cousins the Bassetts have accomplished a WHOLE lot already.
But Larkin(Eric's son perhaps) wasn't afraid and wasn't happy with the W. That was impressive.

College Wrestling is hard. But...they've got a WHOOOLE lot of talent.
Gibson was definitely thinking sometimes you’re the hammer, other times you’re the nail, but not in a bad way. Good match!

Alright what makes us think he even will make the Junior team next year? Then medal? He couldn’t make the cadet team this year and now lost another cadet match. He is a great wrestler but for as much as Flo seems to think he is Jesus Christ, he’s overrated.
I’m not seeing the talent here. He just got man handled. Larkin made it look so easy.

Something about the way that left knee is being supported tells me he may have been more compromised than he showed. If there was an injury that kept him from pulling that left leg out( it was the same wrap on the same ankle everytime)

Did anyone ever think of teaching Gibson how to counter a leg lace? The counter is simple and if he goes right to it, instead of trying to be superman, he never gets turned.
Who has a good video on how to counter?
@@knyghtkrawlr You don’t need a video.....As soon as an opponent drops to your legs, you have to sit back on your heels and make your knees as wide as possible. You can reach and peel hands and pull a knee to your chest. I mean, it’s just so simple, this kid should fire his coaches. Elite my ass.

Theu shoukd wrestle 2 - 3 minute periods.
The refs are literally required to give them if nobody has scored by a certain point. Passivity blue is the call that almost every ref would have given in that situation, since red was controlling most of the action at that point.

@@aikidobuck217 never seen that rule before but most of my walking experience was folk style so I’m no expert on this. But it’s hard to call passivity on someone who just took a shot and the other wrestler escaped the attack

So why was that challenged roll early not 2? Gibson was in trouble and rolled across his back. I was SURE that was good stuff in folk but would give 2 in freestyle. FIrst time I have seen it called that way...
I was the one running the video.. Refs determined it wasn’t two because dude rolled all the way through. Had Larkin stopped him on his roll thru they would have offered it 🤷🏻♂️

In high school a kid built just like the short guy who was some wrestling star was messing with me in shop class trying to pull wrestling shit, I kept pinning him against the wall just standing and leaning into him. He got super pissed and acted like he wanted to fight real life.
I was 6' 135lbs he was 5'5" 150lbs.

Did they say Gibson wrestled up here? He looks like he is giving up size here. Looks like he was trying some technique with the hook that he's used to it it always going. Gibson is well put together but you can see the length of this guy and the one from quarters that the size difference gave him some issues.

I think the way Gibson's leg was taped up helped Larkson maintain a better grip.
His lace is just that tight... That was pure technique and torque.

i’m assuming it has something to do with having long legs. instead of waisting all of your stamina by doing a full squat just to match his level, he spreads his legs wider to lower his level.

Guessing you all never saw TJ Hill from Farmington MO wrestle? Scott Schatzman? All tech falled their ops in the state final
there have been lots of techs in the state finals before. this is crazy because he was a huge underdog, mason is 5th in the country, and it’s the hardest tournament in the country.
