    Iran is a wrestling powerhouse. Despite that, Jordan Burroughs had not lost to an Iranian wrestler for over a decade until this loss at the 2022 World Cup.

      What? Wrestling in the U.S has been a significant part of our culture going back to the very beginning when we were still British colonies (the very first colonists brought wrestling from Europe) After independence wrestling in The United Stares continued to develop Starting with ‘catch wrestling’ which was extremely popular & included submissions (you shouted uncle when submitted) and even had ‘no rules’ wrestling matches. American wrestlers would challenge the top grapplers from all over the world including the top judokas from Japan with the American catch wrestlers (also was called shoot fighting) often winning.
      Eventually it evolved into folk style wrestling removing the submissions and replacing it with the ‘pin’ to make it safe so it could be a ‘school sport’ with schools all over the country creating wrestling teams. Eventually this developed into freestyle wrestling when wrestling was re-introduced to the Olympics. Folk style is still the style practiced in America today. Wrestling became a huge sport in America and promoters would promote and hype wrestling matches all over the country, eventually they started scripting the matches which developed into what is now pro wrestling (scripted & choreographed) but there was a point where pro wrestling & sport wrestling were one.
      The split happened gradually over time, once the ncaa developed along with the Olympics, that’s when there was a split. Very interesting history. Wrestling goes way way back to Ancient Greece, The wrestling then was extremely tough and included submissions if I’m remembering correctly.

      Dear friend, wrestling in Iran is more than a sport. If you have noticed, when Iranian wrestlers enter the mat, they touch the ground with their hand and rub their hand on their lips and forehead. In fact, they kiss the mat because they consider the wrestling arena sacred. In our Iranian culture, chivalry and respect are more important than winning in wrestling. Wrestlers and basically all the athletes who observe chivalry and respect for the opponent are called Pahlavan.
      Pouria Vali and Gholamreza Takhti are the most famous "pahlavan's" in the history of Iran, and many sports centers are named after them.
      In a match that has determined the city's pahlavan, Pouria Vali loses the match on purpose so as not to upset his rival's mother (without the rival and his mother knowing about the incident). You can read his story on the Internet.

    • @saraazar223
      @saraazar223 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      This is the traditional way of Iran's "pahlevan" culture. We traditionally value honest competition above winning.
      Wrestling and truthfulness are Iran's two oldest traditions rooted in Zoroastrian ideas and appear in our literary history even before the formation of civilization to the west or east of Iran. It looks like what you saw in this match.
      You can't find bad sportsmanship among professional Iranian athletes but you will see the most traditional of athletes showing grace and even mercy to their opponents, like the champions Gholamreza Takhti and Pouria Vali were known to do.
      The pahlevan leans on 7000 years of native Iranian philosophy like there's nothing else and doesn't disgrace it by getting greedy or egomaniacal.

    Ali Savadkoohi beat Burroughs the last time also, but the ref awarded Burroughs the match … ref attempted to do the same again, 2 points at the same time for out of bounds and stalling, but didn’t quite work this time … huge win on us soil … respect to jb … he is very respected and loved by Iranians … Savadkoohi also beat sidekov recently !!!

      You aren't wrong. 2 points and a caution was bullshit. Either its a push out or not but it wasn't fleeing. Defense that is legal in the 1st is still legal with 20 seconds left in the 2nd. Refs have waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much arbitrary power in international wrestling.

    • @sbahado
      @sbahado ปีที่แล้ว +20

      @@pauldarling330 agreed … u may not agree but I c iran always getting the short end of the stick when they wrestle usa refereeing-wise I mean … not just here in usa (hosting team usually gets a little ref/home advantage), but I c it elsewhere also … many examples, but most notable recent example was pantaleo vs Yazdani (little Yazdani) match … they awarded Yazdani the 2 points for that gut wrench at the end of the match, essentially sealing a 5-4 Iran win, just to subsequently take it away … concluding that match with a 4-3 pantaleo/usa win … now I know they said pantaleo’s head was out, but lord I though that was continuation and wasn’t really sure how out his head truly was … for the life of me, I would not have seen such a thing reverse for iran, if the opposite circumstances took place … just that would have tied the dual at 5-5 …

    Ali savad beat kadimagomedov last year
    And Sidakov few weeks ago and now
    he could defeat JB and broke the damn spell
    And the interesting thing with
    these wins is that all of them was by criteria :)

      Russian athletes of all disciplines have been banned from every single international sports competition this year because of retarded politics. Sidakov hasn't wrestled internationally against any other country since Tokyo 2020. Sidakov has remained undefeated since 2021.

    Russian and Iranian and American 🇮 is a wrestling powerhouse but Burroughs is a beast Ali is tough. My friend is Kurt Angle. I asked him point blank, 'Who is the toughest team you guys go against? " I thought he was going to say Russia, but he said Iran. He also said,' They wrestle you hard, but they also wrestle clean, not dirty, and they shake your hand weather they win or lose." He did not say it directly, but he was implying that Russians wrestle dirty. They call it KOSHTI and Wrestling is RELLIGION in Iran.

    One thing about Freestyle - Criteria Sucks - Go to Sudden Death OT

      JB didn’t “lose” It was a tie lost by criteria. I agree it should have went to OT that was not out of bounds that was a take down.

      @@NotJakefromstatefarm well , JB has won exactly like that against the same opponent lol do you watch wrestling much? The Iranian took job down twice and reversed him. Do you think you can do that? Not many men exist in this world that can do that to JB. Cheap win? Please …
