    Excellent idea for scrap wood, and the finish looks spectacular. Good camera work to show the grain off. Those coasters seem massively deep, you could double your number of coasters by sawing them in half

      Yep they are quite chunky! I kinda like them like that though

    I always use a cabinet scraper to get rid of glue mate ,works great and saves your blades .....great job btw

      @RagnBoneBrown  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good idea, but then I have to clean/sharpen my cabinet scraper and I'm not very good at that (must be doing something wrong)... I find it easier sharpening a plane blade

      try a Stanley blade in a holder .not the knife, also works fantastic mate ....

    Top usage of offcuts. Dude - you put up a vid with some links to various bits of kit you've picked up, which one was it - I want to get the diamond stones and various other bits!

      It's simple when you know how to do it, if you have the skills, the tools, the patience.
      I'd say that 95% of the worlds population is not able to make this.

    Hola Keith,I have just been having a look at some of your old projects,and one which caught my eye to have a built in fault,and a accident waiting to happen is the the Hardwood drinks coasters,the coasters themselves were well made and looked good,but unfortunately Keith they are way too thick,and being drinks coasters and alcohol flowing if the glass is not put fully onto the coaster,I can see a glass tipping off and spilling its contents,do you agree with me?,I think they were thick enough to be cut in half,anyway looking forward to more of your enjoyable vidios,in the meantime take care.

      Hi Colin, the reason I went for thick ones is because when I’ve made thin coasters they tend to stick to the bottom of glasses with moisture suction which I find really annoying haha! These ones are quite heavy but to be honest they still do it! We’ve not had any spillages as yet which is good :-)

    if may be a little bold and say, if you cut them in half (width ways) you would have more, and would be a more manageable coaster (personal opinion. But i do agree with the others here, very good use for off cuts. We recently paid £9 for 6 coasters.

      TheMattfell that's what I do. Some people may like them thick though

    Why so many different finishes? What is the benefit?

    • @RagnBoneBrown
      @RagnBoneBrown  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Ian Johnson Danish oil to bring out the grain nicely and help protect against moisture,varnish for extra moisture protection and wax because I love the smooth sheeny finish it provides

    wood glue will not damage planer or jointer blades. Only the plastic resin glue that is used to glue plywood together will damage blades.

    i know its no use now to say this, but your coasters were boring. , you could have made them special. with inlay or something.
