  • Four minute video documents repair and restoration of a vintage statue of St. Anne and the Blessed Virgin Mary. Like many beautiful artworks it was whitewashed in the 1960s, losing its colour and diminishing its beauty. Our task was to repair the broken crowns and other minor damage, then to sand down the lumpy white paint and revive the beauty of this piece by Italian-Canadian sculptor Tomasso Carli. We hope you enjoy it! #statuerestoration #statuerepair

    Thank you for conscientiously doing that! One of the saints in our local church was restored, but he was whitewashed even if he was purely Asian.

      Hello Seb. Some time has passed since your comment was posted and we really haven’t had a chance to do a video specifically on re-sculpting fingers. If you were still doing this project or will be attempting more in the future, and would like some advice, please contact us through our website I would be happy to offer a free opinion. What is the non toxic paint stripper you used? And the gold paint? Ste Anne turned out so beautiful! Do you have tutorials on how to paint a face...I love watching your videos.

    • @BrushworksStatueRestoration
      @BrushworksStatueRestoration  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you for your kind words. Pauline has been thinking about doing an online tutorial on how to paint faces because we get a lot of questions about that. It’s really a matter of finding a time to do it. So please keep an eye on our channel and I’ll post it as soon as she’s got the opportunity.
      The stripper I referenced in the video is called EZ Strip, and they call it “eco-friendly” and safer around children but of course we’d still take abundant precautions. Info pages here: www.ezstrip.ca/wp-content/uploads/EZ-Brochure-B2C-english-compressed.pdf
      Best of luck!

    What type paint do you use on your restorations? They are breathtakingly beautiful!

    • @BrushworksStatueRestoration
      @BrushworksStatueRestoration  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much! The paint we use can vary depending on the project. For exterior or more robust requirements we apply a premium Zinsser primer, then use Behr Marquee paints. Sometimes Pauline will use Liquitex acrylics as well. And very often (most of the time) she will blend paint colours herself to attain the exact colours and shades she’s after. But we agree …they can be quite stunning. And they last for decades. God bless.

      Thank you for your prompt reply..you must be a night owl like me lol! My statue is an early 1900s Mary with baby Jesus approx 54 inches tall. Very poor condition but I'm determined. Missing fingers and crown points have all been repaired. I need guidance on priming, undercoat and paint for an indoor plaster statue. I dread the thought of a Made In China paint job. I took many pictures for colors. Thank you so much.

    Hello: You said the statue is resin. I want to know what kind of paints did you use?

    • @BrushworksStatueRestoration
      @BrushworksStatueRestoration  24 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hello ! This particular statue is plaster, not resin. But for indoor statues we most commonly use Zinsser primer then Behr premium paints in a matte sheen. For the more delicate areas such as skin tones and hand stencilling Pauline blends her own custom colours using professional grade acrylics such as Liquitex. I hope this answers your question. 🙏

      Hello cosmic. It’s really very difficult to explain how to restore a statue but perhaps you could Get some tips by watching our videos, or looking up some instructional videos online. Without knowing what the issues are and how badly damaged the statues are… It would be pretty impossible to give you advice. Best of luck with your projects!

    What paint do you use?

    • @BrushworksStatueRestoration
      @BrushworksStatueRestoration  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Godwin. We use several kinds of paint. When primer is needed, we use Zinsser123. For outdoors we use primarily Behr premiums. And for indoors we use premium Behr and acrylic latex (Liquitex and high grade such as Winsor & Newton professional). Pauline blends several colours to create her custom palettes depending on the project. Hope this helps.

    • @BrushworksStatueRestoration

      In this case, we used Modern Masters metallic gold, ordered from the US. It's expensive but a very high quality paint that holds its lustre.
