As a Kirby main and avid student of the game, I think you are correct. Kirby's had some Hugh placements (17th at an A tournament by Ferretkuma and 13th at a B-tier by JeSuisChoq), but the only times a Kirby has really torn into a top-top player were JeSuis and Jejajeja against Mkleo, and in both of those cases, Leo adapted pretty quickly and swung it back very hard from game 2 onwards. This game is going in my catalog for sure...

This was almost the biggest upset of the year, and Kirby's biggest win in ult. SO CLOSE! If he was more confident and went for the obvious down air at the end, he likely would have won. Incredibly devastating loss, but still, a very entertaining set!

But because he’s such a good player, he should go for the good recovery option of either jumping over that or just recoverying low. Well stage control is huge rn in last stock situation, so I shouldn’t lose stage control so Ill throw this Bair just in case Sparg0 tries to recover greedily, and if he does any other recovery, then I at least can ledge trap.” Which is part of the mind game going on there, because if its something we as the audience can all see, Im sure both players knew exactly how obvious it is, which is why I think Sparg0 went for that obvious option. The best option is sometimes the most obvious option since its too obvious for them to go for. That or he geniunely panicked but I doubt he panicked, Sparg0 rarely panics.

Already getting several new ideas from this guy. Sensational play, and better micro-spacing than JeJaJeJa. My biggest take away here is that a player with the combined strengths of the two best Kirby’s would have certainly taken this set, which is fucking bonkers.
I was just thinking this. Jeja seems to have better DI reads on those combo extensions sometimes so that punish game here may have pushed it over, but I think Guilheww’s strengths are better in this meta. The cash in forward smash read on the fairs game 4 was crazy
I really want to learn to utilize Kirby’s specials to their maximum potential. I feel like inhale is hard to set up at times, but it’s definitely underrated outside of its notorious usage to cheese stocks offstage and it’s hype to see Kirby players utilize different copy abilities
What’s crazy is I think JeJaJeJa has a better advantage state than Guilheww. I do think Guilheww played better in neutral and didn’t make some of the mistakes that sometimes cost jeja, but if he can refine the combos, trip reaction, etc he definitely could’ve taken this set
I like this Kirby, I think if they get a few different combo routes down and more trip reaction in bracket (I know it’s hard with pressure) they can start getting stocks really easy
Dtilt is an absurd move if your reactions are godlike. Always trying to use it more. I was intrigued by Guil's ambiguous crossups with Fair and really impressed that he seems to have the Dair-->Dsmash autocancel window down perfectly, as that's really tricky to do consistently...
@@arandomperson12345 no Definitely was impressed with the amount of dair damash they were getting, I think if he got a little more precise with dair edge guards against the linear recoveries he definitely could have taken this set, loved the way he played around cloud neutral and the way he abused fair (this move is lowkey busted)
JFC that was more intense than Leo's Joker vs Spargo's Cloud. And.. Maximum respect for that Guilheww guy, a prisine Kirby play. Myself, I have a fair amount of confidence in my Kirby play, and all I experienced while watching was hopelessness, Fargo was closing almost every single door I might have wanted to pry open, before even the possibility of trying those doors would open for real. Meanwhile, Guilheww manage to almost nullify this disadvantage and turn everything around, against the current best or second-best player in the world. Hats. Fricking. Off.
Spargo was def playing Kirby in squad strike and knows about the character. I think he just wanted to practice some Byleth, but it almost came back to haunt him xD
Kirby has a lot more than people realize 😌 he's just deceptively hard to use in tournament play, hence why you don't see him very often, really. Since he has the issue of generally short and jointed range and slower movement, you need to have an extremely expansive knowledge of his options in many situations, so that you're able to be as unpredictable as possible, which is where the difficulty comes in, since he's the character that destroys until the opponent reads what you are going to do after you finish a sequence, so you need to be able to cycle through your options and choose the one that either juxtaposes or has a different flow than what you did prior, to make Kirby as least susceptible to exploitation as possible. In general he has a decent amount of mixups and coverage options, as well as things to put you into different situations to cause different options to be used differently, he is incredibly flexible. It's the fact that he doesn't have as much stupid good options as a lot of characters that ends up holding him back, and makes it so you need to just have a lot of knowlede as the Kirby player to be able to adequately assess when to do what. He has quite a bit of stuff that this player didn't go for: Up B for outspacing cloud is genuinely a good option, comboing into inhale to setup for kirbycides or just general getting them offstage, and more optimized combos in general are the big optimizations that can be made here.

guilheww what a beast, would def like to see him in more tourneys. love to see characters like Kirby in big competitive situations. so many people are playing Joker, Byleth, Aegis, Diddy, Cloud, and other meta characters just because they are played by the best players in the world. play who YOU like and YOU have the most fun with and show the light to the rest of the smash community on how those characters can rip. That's how those characters became meta in the first place -- players like Leo and Spargo were just playing their favorite characters
You don't have to hold down during the up b to go above the ledge as byleth After letting go of ledge, byleth's up b can't grab the ledge for 55 frames, so about a second. You literally just drop down and press up b
This whole time I thought these first two matches was MKleo until I saw cloud and check the title of the video, ha ha. These matches was heavily close, especially the final to matches. This Kirby is amazing as we hardly see a great Kirby in ultimate recently.
