When I got to the 19:35 I literally got chills. I've been playing with and using the Boss OC-3 in this way for nearly 15 years. I was playing in London at the time and saw a guy playing at an open mic who was using one as well. Sweeping the signal down to only catch the low frequency was mind blowing to me. I play exclusively in DADGBD tuning, so this pedal is so key to my sound. I honestly had no idea @Mike Dawes uses this pedal until stumbling upon this video. I'm geeking out a lot right now. LOL
Hey John!! I have had the pleasure of meeting Mike D a few times here in NYC and in Philly area, at the Tommy Emmanuel show a year or so ago, he was called in to front Tommy for a few shows. I know Tommy also. so when my wife and I were lounging around the theater, all of sudden, there is Mike Dawes hanging around the lobby. We both remembered meeting at The Iridium on his first US Tour years back. And that night, I brought a studio bass player friend to join me to see Mike. We were sitting with one of Mike's students at a front table. The one thing that blew me away, and made perfect sense, was how long MIKE"S FINGERS ARE!!! No wonder his walkovers and hammer-ons are so intense. I think he has an 11-inch reach!! LOL Most humans are 7-8 inch. Mike is amazing. A great guy. So knowledgeable of his instrument. Always keep a MD CD in the car ready to go when on those runs back and forth from Greenwich Village to the Poconos.... Thanks
He's got a tribute to EVH covering "Jump.." Just sick: The hook, harmonies, correct bass lines, vocal lines, Eddie's insane leads. You won't be-'effin'-lieve it...
I saw Mike open for Tommy Emmanuel. At first I admit I was a bit suspicious of the whole tapping style but Mike's playing and incredible wit and warm personality won me over. He's a consummate player AND entertainer. Class act all the way.
Wow great to hear. 6 of us were to see them in the beginning of the next year in portland (long way to travel) ... we had to cancel out because of the C police and forcing ... i ain't going to break ..............
Amazing! One would naively think that the pedal board for an acoustic guitar would be MUCH simpler than for an electric, but his acoustic pedal setup ends up being one of the most complex I've ever seen in terms of signal paths because the multiple pickups, etc.
I have a Joyo American. It is seriously brilliant and cost me £30 UK brand new! I use it on open mic nights to put electric through a PA, but now its going on my Acoustic board. Also he uses all the cool Digitech stuff which for no reason I can not fathom is discontinued. Big fan
Awesome Rig Rundown. Mike is just an incredible player and it was so interesting to see how he puts it all together on stage. As usual, John always asks great questions from a guitar player's point of view and appreciates the artist as much as we do. You can learn a lot from a PG Rig Rundown.
Mike is quite innovative. Ive got a lot of the same pedals on my rig but not worthy to touch his guitar. Thanks for doing this interview. Very informative and inspiring.
You are the best in the world Mike ! I really enjoy watching you play. You constantly amaze me with what you can accomplish with your guitar. I did not appreciate some of your language in this video. I believe you are an important role model to today's youth and upcoming guitarists. Please keep it clean Mike ! I know your Mom & Dad would agree with me !
My brain just exploded a few times hahah man that setup sounds so insane, it’s inspiring me to explore on my setup. Ive always thought acoustics as okay just pure guitar tones, this has changed my mind two fold. Mikes a good dude, i would love to meet him and pick his brain.
Mike Dawes is an incredible inspiration and as a recent discovery, he may be the best acoustic fingerstyle guitarist I have ever heard! I have to admit something...while watching this video, I was having trouble keeping my eyes off John Bolger. He just may be the most beautiful man I have ever seen. Sorry to get off track.
Hey guys loving the Acoustic run downs! As an acoustic player I'm always curious how the pros make the thing sound good plugged in. Loved the Billy Strings video, would love to see more from: Chris Eldridge Half Moon Run Marcus Mumford
I used the metric system cutting exhaust pipe, our prints were metric, but for the longest time the company converted metric to S.A.E. not to confuse the employees.
We like to hate on the metric system as a point of pride, but it is totally superior. 10 mm in a cm, 100 cm in meter, 1000 meters in a km. On the other hand, we have to remember random numbers, 3 feet in a yard, 5280 feet in a mile, 16 oz in a lb. And those are the easy ones.
44mm is not narrow!! Most guitars are 42, i searched a long time in my town to finally get a Tanglewood with a 43mm nut! Why i love Taylors, apart from the sound the action is soft and low and they have 44mm nuts! My fingers are not comfortable with a 42mm nut. To tight, not enough room. Being 61 ime starting to get a couple of problems that are not helping my playing:( My left hand little finger is ahhmm..Fucked up,lol. Love your sound Mike even though ime usually not really into tapping like so many younger players are into!
Very interesting. So does his boss split the signals then he goes out to the pedals with each individual pick up? Or does he go from pickups to designated pedals then to the bose blending unit? Help!!!
Does the blank jack need to be grounded to itself? I tried plugging in a small jack cable and all sound is disconnected when set as you have yours set. Thank you for the help.
Hey Mike, wonderful video. I recently saw you doing a video on Sire guitars. In you personal opinion which of their pickup configurations do you think is better?
that's totally the point when it comes to kit, i need finger implants. my hands are the same size as my japanese ex wife, tiny, and although the tips are calloused they are still soft, and my nails grow 1mm per week. but i gave up trying to imitate other people years ago, now i write my own stuff, playe in my own way, and other people can scratch their heads and ask "how does he do that??"

This might be my favorite rig rundown. John B delivers again!
Fascinating rig. This guy's touch is unreal.
Mike seems like such an awesome, humble, regular guy. Incredible player! Love it!
Mike Dawes you are the real deal.

That's a top five rundown right there! Entertaining, creative, talented, humble. Bravo.
Nice to see someone share their rig in such detail with such enthusiasm
Mike would be almost as entertaining even if he didn’t have a guitar! He needs his own show!
dude is so musical! I love how he uses the full potential of the guitar to sound like a one man band
Wow he knows his gear to a science way too much for my brain to operate!! Amazing ideas and technics. Sounds amazing! And a really cool personality
The intro Guitars played by Mr Mike sounds like another masterpiece under his sleeve . Mr Mike Dawes you are my Hero

He seems like a really great guy, very down to earth.
Thisis what I like about this show! Well done John and Mike!
*Just* discovered Mike from a Justin Hayward video, was curious about his acoustic, and here I am. This guy knows how to do a Rig Rundown!
This man use a Joyo (same as Harley Benton) Pedal, a u$s 25 here in Argentina!!! a sound great!!
One of my favorite guitarists of all time
One of the best Rig Rundowns in a while! what a killer, super dialed in player.
I’m really glad I stumbled upon this and now I know how to recreate his overdriven line with my cheap DIY ukulele setup
What a lovely sense of humor!
Amazing player, sound architect, comedian.
Good stuff! Really appreciated the tip on the OC-3.
I think mike interviewed himself in this one he has so many stories and hes a really good talker
Those overdriven reverb trails accentuated by the volume pedal - amazing!
Great interview!!
He is intelligent and it shows.
And his playing.....wow!!
Wow that guitar best string angle headstock ever :) and that sound !!!!!!
I had no clue Mike Dawes was so insanely funny! Wonderful player and a super kickass rig!
I definitely couldn't play very well with a 44 mm nut but I'm so glad it works for you
what a sweet sweet gentleman. I'd love to give him a hug!

@@mikedawesofficial Mine are like a pair of Clackers now.
Thanks for sharing!
Imagine Mike later during the gig hitting the sample pad and it goes "c'mon!!" instead of his reversed guitar part because he set it wrong lol
Mike Dawes and Jeff Beck...alien carryover earcandy🎸
He's the guitarist Stephen merchant.
Lol!
Yes!
give me all the knowledge!! thank you for sharing.. holy crap
By the time did the Tobias Rauscher seminar a few weeks later, he had 4 or 5 off tuning pegs.
Witty. Generous. Masterful. Like Michael Hedges and Danny Heines had a child together 😂
I have some D'Addario nickel bronze on my jumbo. Lovely tones. Bollocks means ''cojones''. Dog's bollocks means top quality.
I wanna see Mike Dawes on "That Pedal Show"!

Hilariously gifted guy
Sheer fun!

This is "the same" board like Newton Faulkner use:-)))) Thx for this video!!:-)
Have you ever used the tone wood amp along with the floor units all at the same time ? Wondering how all that would sound together.
Mike dakujem za všetky rady. Už som Boss oc5 kúpil. Znie to oveľa lepšie.😉👍
