I really appreciate you showing this Andrew. This is the one I ordered. But, I have to be honest, I am very "underwhelmed" by it. I'm sorry but it is very cheesy looking for the price we've paid. With the Lennon boxes, and especially with the Paul boxes, I felt like I was receiving something special. With this, I dont feel that way. Sure, the music, the remix, the bonus tracks will all be wonderful. But the physical set is not. I think they put all their energy into the wooden uber crate and this, alleged, deluxe set was shortchanged. "Super deluxe"? Hardly, in my opinion. Cheers Matt

But, I'm sorry, this deluxe set looks pitiful...for the cost. I'll keep it to have a hard copy of all the material, and also so I can bitch and complain about it in my video when I receive it. Ha ha! But the physical product is crap...as Andrew said, the Plastic Ono Box is about the same cost, and Pauls archive sets are only a bit more perhaps. With those you feel like you have a cool artifact. Yes I love the music on this, the pamphlet is is nice quality but is not super deluxe, I think the product should have been called enhanced and not super deluxe!
@@markransome7052 exactly Mark! This is far from "super deluxe", perhaps enhanced, like you said. The Paul archive boxes are worthy of the title "Super deluxe", the Plastic Ono Band set is worthy of the title 'super deluxe'. This is not!
The box it's self should have been much larger. That picture of George is so epic. When the original album came out it was massively packaged.
Greatest box set ever. But maybe thats just me. I've always considered this record to be miles above anything John did post Beatles and so far all of the demos that I've listened to this morning have just increased my love for this masterpiece.

Not the only one, @John Locke. The value of music is so subjective. Love a lot of John’s stuff, the POB box was a blast, but ATMP is special to me.
Last time I buy anything from the George store...more expensive than Amazon and no early delivery. So much for brand loyalty!

@@Ian_Jules If you're not completely sure about Abey Road, the download from I tunes is only about 30 bucks (or whatever that converts to in pounds if you're in England). The outtakes are awesome, such as a strings-only mix of Something, and a raw take of The Ballad of John & Yoko.
It does make me wonder why we all get so sucked in to packaging and presentation of these things!
In 1970 records were released pretty much in one singular format....everyone got the same thing. Maybe I’m the only one that would prefer that?
@MaccaLennonStarr I'm glad I decided to do the digital download from I Tunes. If I'd gotten the CDs, I'd have shrugged "meh" and been kind of pissed, based on what I'd seen of it. The content is extraordinary. I did decide to get the 5-LP version instead, and I'm very happy I did. The packaging is beautiful. It was only about USD$80
I've been wondering what to expect as well and appreciate you showing your set. Wish they would've sent this out early in the U.S.

Not great is it. I can only assume the previous lavish Lennon and McCartney sets didn’t make a great deal of money so this is about reducing costs and maximising profits. It isn’t called the music business for nothing! I’d have said £50 would have been a fairer price. There are plenty of other options available so I’ll be looking at those instead. Thanks for putting this up 👍

I went with the 3 CD edition. I couldn’t justify the big jump in $$ to the 5 disc version.

Hi Andrew. I got my deluxe 5 CD and deluxe 8 vinyl today. The vinyl box is stunning. I paid 165 for it from Amazon and it’s worth every penny. Like you I got the deluxe CD for just under 100 and it is certainly a very nice little box….I just think if it was around maybe the 60 pound mark it would be a fair price. It is certainly over priced. The first CD I listened to was the day 1 demos….absolutely amazing!
At £60 I would have been raving about it. £75 and I'd have probably felt that was about right.

I'm so happy you opened it to show us. It does look WAY better than I expected but I"m still pissed off about the price. It costs $50 more than the last three John Lennon box sets and it's way smaller! I'm sorry but that is a ripoff. I feel stupid for pre-ordering it. I'm not going to do that anymore for any future George Harrison releases but I feel safe in pre-ordering any of the future Beatles and John Lennon box sets. This box set should have cost no more than $90. With all that said (or written), I can't wait to hear the 5.1 Blu-Ray. Thanks again for your review.

@@AndrewDixonMusic listened to wonderwall plenty of times, cant say the same for electronic sound though. Its a bit of a hard listen. I thought i may as well grab em while theyre still in stock. Wonderwall has a lot of great tracks imo. Have you seen the film that goes with the album? The full film is on youtube in excellent quality

I'm glad you liked it after some vacillation. I haven't seen it IRL yet but judging by what you showed us (very thorough - thanks!) I would call it a slightly sub-premium package. Definitely not shabby, but not luxury either (as you commented, a hard backed booklet would have gone down well). I was hoping there might have been an unexpected bonus in there too and think they missed a trick with that - some little surprise bauble would have been nice. Oh well; It'll do.
Spot on about the Amazon Andrew McCartney imagined "black vinyl" started at £44.99, I got mine @ £36, it's now to £26 approx I'm just getting the 3 cd version for now and hopefully the viny variations will be reduced 👍👍👍

It’s just how I thought it would be packaged. This is value for money if you ordered the Uber box so you can play these and keep the Uber box untouched and in near new condition.
Loved the Video wasn’t sure if I was going to order it. But did the other day so seeing you unbox it was good. Is it super deluxe mmm maybe not but still glad I’m getting it to add to my Beatles/Solo collection

Thanks for sharing Andrew. I’m waiting on the 8 lp box coming this Friday. I agree with your concerns about value. I always looked at ATMP as an epic album and I couldn’t justify a smaller package. I needed a big book and a big box to do the record justice.

Thanks for this Andrew - I had visions of the 30th anniversary “box” that was just big enough to hold CDs. This looks to be a good - not great - release. Really looking forward to the 8 LP set - although those of us on the west coast of the US have to wait a week or more after the release date to receive orders from the solo Beatles’ shops. Also - love the new space. Looking forward to a tour once you have the time!

Well had mine preordered and not getting it until at least 10th of August.Getting fed up with Amazon not had one boxset on time in ages.Really miss my local record shop.
Amazon nearly always quote me a delivery day several days after release but almost always still turns up on release day, so hopefully you will. Why Amazon do that though is a mystery, guaranteed way to annoy their customers!

The 5CD+BLURAY set is approximately £122 for us Aussies 🇦🇺 😣 In terms of the physical product we’re getting, I’m feeling extremely underwhelmed and am wishing they put as much thought n effort as they did into the Uber Deluxe Crate.
I don’t understand the excitement or enthusiasm for the splatter vinyl, it’d be something I’ll look at once and shelve away, never to look at again, each to their own I guess :)

Yeah it translates to around $200AUD which is too expensive for this set. I'm waiting for a price drop.
Got for about $130US plus shipping Same price point as Gimme Some Truth. and Plastic Ono sets and, for me, more new music than either of those.With the POB set in particular, you can end up hearing the same take across 3 or 4 different mixes/edits, which is interesting and comprehensive but I prefer alt takes and unreleased songs, as we get here. Imho, the remix is more substantial here, which adds value, as does the blu-ray if you have a good sound setup!
George's products have never offered good value for money. Right back to the days of the original release of All Things Must Pass
Can kind of agree. I was eyeing up the big box of all his albums from 2017 but it was pushing £500 on amazon. I went and bought them all seperately and saved nearly £150. Tbh i wish i bought the set cos the box is very nice, as are the 2 picture discs

A triple album was unusual in 1970, so it was always going to cost more than a regular LP. Honestly, the value kinda depends on how much you enjoy the music. Is a box worth more because it’s bigger? Fwiw, I think George’s releases typically have some of the best art design for any Beatle product. Here they mostly stuck with the original look, which is good, but the Apple Years Box, for instance, is a work of art unto itself.
I would say George was probably the most materialistic Beatle and that seems to have been passed down to his estate.

When I first saw you posted this and that you were holding the actual box in your hands, I feared it was going to be one of those, "Dhani rang me last week and he and Olivia FEDEX'd this to me along with a garden gnome and one of George's old cigarette butts......" Glad I got to see this finally. I really wonder why so much secrecy behind the packaging of that CD set? I pre-ordered mine from uDisover along with the splatter vinyl. Not sure if will arrive Friday or later as is first time I’ve preordered with them.
I also ordered the 5cd & splatter LP's.
Can't wait to get them and compare the mixes. I was never a fan of the Phil spector production.
I see the Uber box is now sold out at all the UK retailers - that didn’t take long for £859.99 - less than a month !! It’ll be giving Paul ideas - his next Archive collection will have an Uber version at £999 lol

The packaging on this might not be the most eye catching. but more importantly is the music from this timeless album and I hope they did a great remaster on this version. I would love to hear your sound system behind you and while a demonstration from the microphone is not like being in front of the speakers, it could still give a good impression on how well it sounds. You would have to use music not copyrighted if you are concerned about music being blocked or other issues. Thanks Andrew for your dedication to preserving timeless music and I wish you a most awesome day!!...Friends, Lloyd.
I wish they were consistent in box size and that this was the same size as the Lennon /McCartney sets. I often find that booklets inside sets this size has a print size that is so small that a magnifying glass is needed lol. But I think this set is overpriced by around £30 (current Amazon price is £109.00. Thanks for review. I’ll watch out for the sound quality review.
I was like you, unsure, so I canceled that 5 Disc box. I got the 3 cd one and saved 100 dollars. 3 cd was good value.. I have some of the missing outtakes on boots. Nice to see what I missed.
Glad I ordered the 8 LP box set, much better value. I was going to get the CD as well, but I wouldn't pay more than £40 for that.
As long as the music is good, I’ll be more then happy. But I must confess after seeing a few unboxings of the 5CD set (which I also ordered) I’ve considered pulling the trigger on the Uber Set, so the contents match the dollar paid.
Great, now I want to also purchase this 6 disc set, just for the neat box it's in! The Uber Set just has the discs jammed in pockets in the back of the hardcover book.
Seems strange that they didn't just put one of these boxes inside the Uber!

Thank you so much for the video. I have ordered this set plus the 8 vinyl set and am torn whether to cancel this one or not. I prefer my outtakes on CD rather than vinyl but I wanted the larger book from the vinyl set. Also have order in for splatter as well. Will probably end up keeping this one but it would be nice to get a big mark down of some sort. Thanks again for keeping us informed. Take care.
Ended up cancelling my 5cd order for now.
And there’s a couple of songs that have been cut, where he starts on electric and then changes to acoustic and vice versa. So disappointed that the bootleg of those songs is complete and the official release isn’t!
The prog group Van Der Graaf Generator is releasing in September, a 20cd box set of their earliest albums and bonus material, for about 10-15 Pounds more, so I'll have to pick that over this SDE of ATMP. I'll go for the 3cd ATMP set instead. Thanks for the review.
Thanks for this review Andrew. I have decided to cancel my Amazon order and order the 3CD set instead. I would like either to buy the 6 disc set at a more sensible price, or pay the asking price and receive a larger hardback book and packaging. I found this a very helpful video and I hope that if/when the "living in the Material World" anniversary set comes around they get the pricing right!

Comparing to the Lennon/McCartney box sets, I must agree, it’s quality is low… well the music must be good! And I’m also very excited for the next McCartney archive collection release! Will there be one this year? What do you think?

've just quickly ran through the CDs 3, 4 and 5... Honestly I can't say I will be listening to them again in foreseen future, maybe a few songs from the CD5 where they are presented in more or less familiar form. It was fun to listen to George giving instructions to Ringo on "Art of Dying" Take 1 though, but again - this is a product for a particular target audience. The final result - the "All Things Must Pass" album - is a magnificent work (bar the Jam disc). I love it even more now when I see how raw demos can be improved by brilliant musicians and turned into brilliant songs to constitute a brilliant album.
I've not done discs 4 and 5 yet but really enjoyed disc 3 on first play.

Nice unboxing of the set, I’ve ordered the 5 lp set but I think your right about the 5cd that is doesn’t seem value for money taking into account the size which I was especially surprised about how small it is and the contents.Also the new room set up looks great

Just got my 3 cd set today (Monday) from Amazon, really nice surprise , 4 days early. It’s nice but it’s not mind blowing by any means, so I’m really glad I decided to stick with this 3cd set, that’s enough for me👍🏻. Content and value wise, the Lennon deluxe sets are still way ahead in my opinion!
Appreciate the sneak peek, similar to you, I ordered the 5cd box & splatter vinyl. I’m generally pleased with the 5 cd set. ( from what I seen in your video). Certainly wish it was a bit bigger... Nevertheless, it looks good , look forward hearing it on Friday. BTW. The Ravi Shankar/George Harrison Collaboration box set is similar in size to the recent Plastic Ono Box set.

If "value for money" is your main misgiving, I'd see what happens with the Amazon price over the next week or so, and then use that experience to determine whether you pre-order the inevitable next box or just wait until after it's released. I'm looking forward to getting my Uber crate, for which I got a shipping notification today.
Also - completely unrelated, but I couldn't help but notice the Kate Bush remaster box over your right shoulder. Those sets sound fantastic. 🙂

It's a really odd decision. I received mine yesterday and the packaging is more akin to the Neil Young Archives II box or the Dylan Rolling Thunder from a couple of years ago. But those were, of course, stuffed with discs! For whatever reason the CD box isn't the main event for this release, whereas with everything else in Beatles boxset land over the past five years it has been. Who knows why. But I listened to the remix this morning and thought it was lovely.
Nice video. Received my package in the US Friday at 5pm local time. I did think it looked a little small at first, but I kinda forgot about the misgivings when I started opening. The inconspicuousness and lack of consuming unnecessary space and materials does feel very "George" to me. The green-tinted trees on the cover reminding us to "Save the World" a little by not manufacturing more disposable stuff. And honestly, the music is a lot more important to me.
When I saw the title of the video I thought maybe you'd got it sent from George's estate. I'm guessing Amazon UK sent it out early in case a lot of their delivery drivers got pinged by the NHS app and would have to isolate, making people's orders late. Although it looks a nice boxset, what you paid is a bit high.
I bought the vinyl super deluxe release yesterday. I wasn't going to get it as although it's one of my top 2 favourite albums (it's that and Rubber Soul flipping between 1 and 2) of all time, I just couldn't justify the expense. However, I managed to get a job at a record shop over the Christmas period and they offer a generous staff discount, so I ended up being able to get it for almost half price and only slightly more expensive than the CD/BD release or the slightly less deluxe vinyl version (this version is 8 records plus a 60 page book whereas that one is only 5 records and possibly a smaller booklet). I've not listened to any of it yet, but I'm really looking forward to it. The one thing that I have done though is read the book and honestly, that was surprisingly good. I was expecting a few photos from the sessions paired with the same quotes we've been hearing since the 30th anniversary, but there's a lot of information in there and a lot of revelations about the songs and the sessions. I've read a lot about the making of the album but there was stuff in that book that I'd never seen before. Plus seeing George's original hand written lyric sheets for every song (aside from If Not For You as he didn't write that one), some even have the chords included which I thought was really cool. The one thing I've found slightly odd though is that they've included replicas of the original printed inner sleeves but the records aren't in them, they're in plain white ones with centre holes housed between the replicas. I suppose this gives people the option to put them in the replicas or not. The white inner sleeves to sort of fit into the replicas but they stick out a little at the top. It'll be interesting to see how the CD version compares.
Enjoy, the 8LP version looks like a great set! The few things that I wasn't keen on in the cd version sound much better to me on vinyl.
I do wonder if you’re right about Amazon itching to discount - though it’s still on the Amazon site as ‘pre-order’ so I guess technically the pre-order price guarantee stands until Friday even though they actually shipped early. I also wondered if it was just Amazon that had shipped early or if others have shipped too. At least it’s better than the feared cd-sized box set, though I’m not sure the soft back book will survive as well as a hardback. As you say value for money seems to be way less than the McCartney/Lennon sets!
Thank you for this unboxing. Of all the 50th anniversary releases this was the one I’ve been looking forward to the most. I admit, at first I was slightly disappointed that there would only be 3 discs of bonus material, until I read an interview with Dhani where he said he tried to find as many outtakes that were different to the finished songs rather then a bunch of similar sounding takes which would be repetitive, which I agree this way makes for a better listening experience,so I’ve come to terms with that. I was really looking forward to a nice detailed book like in all the Beatle releases and the Lennon and McCartney sets and when I learned the standard deluxe set would only be a 60 page condensed version of a 90 page book only available in a 1000 dollar set, yeah that was another major let down. On top of that, they were being strangely quiet about the deluxe 5 cd set, how big it would actually be, what the book would be like etc . The only saving grace was that all the music would be available in the 5cd set as the uber but still this went from being my most anticipated release of 2021 to me not even bothering to check how close to release date we were. But your video has restored my excitement. The box and book (while neither being as big as I would have originally hoped) both look better then I was expecting. No, it is still not good value for money compared to the Archive sets, or especially the Lennon sets, but I have been waiting for the Harrisons to get on the box set bandwagon for so long that I’ll take what I can get at this point. Hopefully they continue to release box sets for the rest of George’s small catalog and they keep it consistent design wise with the 5 cd set (I mean I can’t see uber versions for the rest of his albums...Cloud Nine mmmaybe, but an Uber Extra Texture box?!) Anyway all this to say that I am once again “Uber” excited for my set to arrive this Friday!

I agree with you on this one, I can't deny that I was a little disappointed with the size of box when I received it yesterday, though the packaging overall does look nice, I still think it's a lot to pay compared to what you get from the Lennon estate, I mean you would of expected at least a hardback book???? still I'm looking forward to listening to the music which is the main thing :)
My main plan is to get the high res digital edition. I'll probably at a later point get a marked down or used version of the CD and Blu-ray edition to get the surround content.
Just listened to a very nice take of Isn’t it Pity being sung for the first time by George during the Let it Be sessions, wonder if that will come out on the new Beatles set?
Good unboxing. I'm anxious to hear your review on the sound quality of the different versions. I'm leaning toward the 5-CD, 1 Blu-Ray version, mainly for the Blu-Ray. But, like you, I'm concerned the CDs will be over-compressed and brickwalled to death like so many CDs today.
Thanks for the video Andrew. The box looks better than anticipated but looks like serious penny pinching and overcharging again from the Harrison estate. Bit of a track record developing now - from whinging about tax on Revolver through the original run of the I, Me, Mine book right up to the vinyl collection and now this. Nice to see the package, but I am glad that I cancelled my super deluxe(!) order a couple of days ago. Might consider it for £60. All the best Andrew. 👍
I agree with you over the pricing - this isn't a £100+ box. I'm not the biggest fan of Spector's production so I'll be very interested to hear about the remix.
Don't forget also, these box sets are very expensive to manufacture etc. If they lower the price I dare say the quality will drop considerably as well. Anyway, good review.
Hopefully there will come a separate reprint issue of the beautiful book included in the über set -(after that set has been sold out) -hopefully a somewhat modified print on nonglossy paper.If you add that book to the set you show here it will even have the look of a deluxe edition.
I totally agree with what you said. I got the 8 lp set and I this it is better packaging as a vinyl set. The book is hardback and I think better than the vinyl release of say plastic Ono band
I am thinking that this set is a little over priced. It is about $130 in the USA and it just seems to lack any bulk or extra stuff. Like you said it falls a little short for what you pay. I don't know what I am going to buy. I have the 8 LP ordered and with two days left I have heard that several records are warped and now I want to cancel my order. Grrrrr!!!

It looks better in your video than I was dreading but....to quote George himself on SNL when Lorne Michaels offered $3,000 to all 4 Beatles to reunite in 1976, "It seems a bit chintzy." I'm happy for the music contents, but we are definitely not getting value for our money. It's like the miniature Stonehenge monument in "Spinal Tap." $130 - $150 for a little box that is in danger of being crushed by a garden gnome. I paid that for "Wings Over America" which contained countless bells and whistles, and less than that for the exhaustive "Plastic Ono Band." It's a shame that the Harrison estate put all the care and class into the ridiculous Uber box set filled with all that "Wah Wah." Very disappointing, as 'All Things Must Pass' is my favorite solo Beatles album. Happy for the discs of demos and unreleased music, but this will be the last Harrison box I ever buy. Cheers!
I caved in and ordered the ATMP 8LP set for approx £151 (inc shipping and taxes) from Amazon USA. If I were to buy it locally on Friday, it will be approx £235 from the record shop. It was too good of a deal to a pass up on! Only downside is that I’ll have to wait until 16th-24th August until it arrives, but that doesn’t bother me too much.
I’ve accepted the fact I can’t get the 5CD+Bluray box set for less than £122, whether I buy it locally or import it. I’m just gonna keep an eye out to see if I can get it cheaper and/or decide on release day what to do.
Aussies 🇦🇺 are blocked from purchasing at Amazon UK. I used to get some really good deals back in the day!

Great review as always. One benefit this ATMP box set has over the Lennon sets is the CDs are in their own sleeves, as I always seem to struggle getting the discs out of the Lennon boxes and often seem to rub or mark the disc faces. You should go for the 8 vinyl as that does look beautiful. Interesting that all the other cd sets of ATMP, other than the basic set, on Amazon UK were showing them to be available in weeks and months ahead....have they really sold out of the cheaper sets already? as for the Uber set, is that real value for money? yes you get a nicer book etc, but it’s really the figures which make that set worthwhile.....still may buy that as well though. It’s also nice to have something different from the McCartney iii and coloured vinyl!

Thanks for showing the box and content. The book could have been better, but at least it's not Cd sized. I find the John Lennon deluxe box sets perfect. But I am fine with the format of this ATMP release. While not exactly value for money I certainly won't cancel my order. I would have if it had indeed been a Cd sized box.
And I will still have room available for other stuff. The McCartney archive sets I don't have the space for anymore.
Hi Andrew, do you think that Phil Spector used to have a notice on the wall which said 'If a thing is worth producing it is worth overproducing'? Certainly that is what some artists who worked with him must have thought. But fifty years on Dhani Harrison to the rescue, to make the unpalatable more palatable to a new generation, to partial success. If there was one mistake made with the packaging it was that the CDs should have been housed in an LP sized box and the book with the CDs should have been the hardback book that comes with the full vinyl set. That way whatever the limits of the remix that were set by the original tapes, the new packaging could not be faulted.

Greetings Andrew✌I want to start by saying that You are such a Gentleman and your much too kind on your review of this All Things Must Pass Deluxe CD set, Líke You I got the same and I feel líke its far from Deluxe, its very austere and Not very much value for one's hard earned money, but being the Beatle fan that I am its all about the unrealeased tracks and demos even though Ive already bought in the past three versions of ATMP-so this makes #4
