I love Zo - but I've seen plenty of ONE & DONE PLAYERS turn out to be "busts". Sports in general are about confidence & improvement, and Zo shows signs of neither - that is the real problem.
Let's STOP talking about his "feel for the game" and his "passing gifts" - we are being disrespectful to the Magic Johnson's, White Chocolate's, Nikola Jokic's, Rondo's, J Kidd's, Steve Nash's and Pistol Pete's of the world. Lonzo has no flair in his game - he almost never sets someone up by breaking down his defender & forcing the defense to collapse on him - and THEN dropping a dime. His assist are usually basic - a direct pass to a shooter who knocks down the shot, a pick n roll drop off etc. Let's stop acting like he has THE GIFT. He's a pass 1st PG for sure - but I believe it's because he lacks the offensive tools to be a threat. He doesn't have a go to move yet, he can't finish around the rim, he can't hit the elbow jumper, he can't shoot the 3, he can't make his free throws etc - wouldn't you be a "pass 1st" PG too?
I will give him this - he does have a high IQ on the defensive end, and he makes winning plays - but OFFENSIVELY, he actually LACKS the IQ to be a GREAT point guard. When you mention Zo's numbers - don't forget to mention that he plays 34 minutes a game, shooting 35% from the field & 46% from the FT line. Lonzo's sophomore season will be telling - if he begins the season shooting under 40 percent again & doesn't show true signs of improvement offensively, mainstream media will categorize him as a bust.
This is about the most accurate and objective assessment of Lonzo as I've heard so far.

luis r, Kuz gets plenty of love. And, yes, he's a better scorer than Zo. But, considering that Zo, (with the 7th highest usage rate on his team, despite being the PG) leads the team in assists, 2nd in rebounding, and 1st or 2nd in steals. I'm fact, I believe he lead the entire NBA in steals/deflections in the month of February. So, while he OBVIOUSLY needs work on his offensive /scoring game (and a lot of it) he dies EVERYTHING else EXTREMELY WELL, (and yes, better than Kuz).

Plain and simple Lonzo Ball is almost a mirror image in playstyle as Rajon Rondo was. I love Rondo and he's as elite of a pssser and facilitator as I've ever seen! Yes he couldn't buy a bucket but he's been shooting better and better and this year he's hitting at a record clip. Lonzo will be similar, it'll take a bit of time to get the shot mechanics fixed but lookout when he does learn to shoot in the NBA

As a Laker fan I wish he wouldn't shoot so much. I prefer him to get layups and get to the line but he can't really shoot free throws. I think he should go inside-out, get hot from layups/floaters/mid range than attempt a three here and there. But He gets rebounds and assists also he's a decent defender. But for godsake this offseason get up a lot of threes everyday and work on your free throws.

It is worth saying though (since people love comparing Alonzo’s rookie year to Kidd’s) that Lonzo plays in 2018, when defensive rules have changed to the extent that it is MUCH easier to score, ESPECIALLY if you’re a shooter. The problem that I see with Lonzo is that I don’t see his skill set improving very much as he progresses, I don’t see him becoming a better rebounder or passer over time, I don’t see him being anything more than a streaky shooter with his crazy shot, and his personality is going to drive fans crazy because of his aloofness and seeming disinterest, if there’s anything to worry about, it’s that Lonzo’s ceiling is WAY closer than we thought
