You are a very nice young couple. I wish you all the best here in Greece, you make our country even more beautiful with your presence. Take care and good luck.
Despite having a Romance language which links Romanians to Italians and Spaniards, culturally I feel Romanians are closer to Greeks. Firstly there is the Orthodox religion, and then there is the Byzantine and Ottoman history that is shared. Also in terms of openness and how can I say it, mannerisms and enthusiasms, Romanians and Greeks are closer in nature I feel. Maybe that explains why Romanians are treated more warmly in Greece.
Hey guys, wish you the best.......I am Greek and have traveled extensively in Greece, but let me tell you, I really want to visit Romania: the Karpathian mountain range looks so amazing, the nature among the best I have seen (hehe, from good documentaries and many high definition TH-cam videos). So, for me, Romania seems like a very beautiful country---and the people are wonderful, from the Romanians I have interacted with: genuine, friendly, warm. Cheers, Demetri
Hello Demetri, Thank you very much for watching us and for taking the time to leave a comment 💙💙🙏🤗. You should go and visit Romania, especially if you have an interest in mountains and you like kind and warm people 💙💙🙏🙏
I will move to Greece next year. I was born in Braila, growing up in Germany and now it's time to going home. My uncle was also a Romanian, but he's Greek now. He can speak better Greek than me. 😂
I appreciate the honesty in your words. I was born and lived 10 years in Philippines, 20 years in USA, 5 years in Australia, 2 years in Romania, and now living in the UK. My wife is Romanian, in her mid 20s and loves to travel. I personally lived in 4 different continents but the main thing I learned is that you move wherever home feels like home for you. Whenever any place doesn't feel like home anymore, then you find another place to call home. I spent the most time in USA and that will always be homebase for me but I am fine to travel far away from family and friends (in USA and Philippines) just to create a new life with my wife in London (and we didn't know anyone when we moved here! I don't exactly know why you guys left the UK but I loved hearing your experiences and why you now call Greece home. Keep on making and sharing beautiful videos!
Wow! You've experienced some places! You probably have such a different way of seeing life now. I strongly agree with what you say. Home is where you feel at home, with the people that make you feel you're home.❤️ We will always have Romania as our home base, that's why we like to be nearby. I think it will be an interesting video idea to discuss the reasons why we left the UK, I'm sure there are other people who feel the same way.
@@Sunpire Before my wife and I moved to the UK, I lived in Romania but language was a big barrier for me. So our initial plan was to either move back to Australia or the US. Same as yourself, she wanted to be closer to her family without having to move back to Romania itself so UK was the place we decided to move to (this was just before Brexit). People said its better to move to Ireland (still part of the EU now), or Malta (they also speak English), but we've at least settled here now but can move anywhere in EU at any time. We intentionally didn't move to areas where the Romanian diaspora live, but instead chose to move to where more English people live (to get more of a British experience). I know you live in Crete, but hey, UK is an island also lol!
In general, Romanians and for example Polish people have a different reputation in Greece than in Western Europe. I could live in Ireland, but the gardening season and sunny days would be shorter and property is expensive. You can find cheap houses in Sweden if you don't fear about loneliness in the forests ^^, and i like the liberal outdoor laws in Scandinavian countries, in Germany you sometimes feel like you are not allowed to do anything (because you are not allowed to do much xD). I Personally like France a lot I lived there for some Months and would love to renovate an abandoned house in Italy, also Spain and Portugal have property opportunities. But I think Greece would be one of the best options for me, even if I would not be Greek, its also a sailing paradise, only in Norway you can find similar geography. I am planing to leave Germany for Greece like you guys in the next 2 years, need some time to make it good because my passive income as online writer for homepages and so on is on all-time low since ChatGPT and AI entered the place... 🗡
Such an interesting perspective! We love your comments!🙏💙 thank you for always taking the time. There are beautiful things about each country you mentioned. Although for us, the northern countries were not an option, even the UK was too harsh on the climate for our preference 😅. We heard about the restrictions in Germany, and we considered moving there before the Uk. I prefer the UK over Germany, we wouldn't be able to learn the language. Sporting out the finances before moving is a good idea, makes life easier. Lots of jobs will disappear now that we have AI, and we need to find ways to use it in our favour. We just had a discussion today about this topic. Things will look so much different in such a short time.
@@Sunpire exactly it happened so fast, it's similar to the industrialization, it opens new opportunities, but you need to think what and how you could make it, I am sceptic, i think this time more jobs could disappear then generated, because not everyone can or want to become a high specialized expert. That's why I am a supporter of the monthly guaranteed income for all EU countries, financed by an EU financial transaction tax of 1-2 cent per € on all economic transactions. But in general, yes you have many new possibilities today, for example I am interested in metal-melting skills, you can print a small 3D figure of Athena or Achilles and making touristic souvenirs, you could sell it on Amazon very easy for example or directly to shops, but first you need many hours of trying out and finding ways to produce it very cheap, information is the most important thing now, everything is about information.
Thank you!❤️ For now, we're happy here in Greece, but you never know what happens and what the future holds for us. Raul was definitely more inclined to move back to Romania, but for me, it wasn't an option as you can probably tell😂
i work as a waiter in restaurant, i can say that for 7 years during my work the best customers i have are Romanians BY FAR!! MULCUMESK KOBLETSERE LAREVEDERE PRIETEN heheh!!
if u want to live in greece but still want to talk romanian u can visit epirus where a whole region has a similar language like romanian, which is called aromanic and the ppl living there are called aromanian greek or vlachs.
Raul: Romania and Spain were the top of my list. Amalia: Greece was the only country I wanted to go and the top of my list. Raul 1 min later: Sooo, Greece was the top of OUR list. Hahahahahaahaha
🤣🤣🤣🤣 Raul was referring to only the list of the countries that were not chosen, and Amalia was referring to the whole list, which is with Greece on it.
I visited Thailand back in 2015 when I had a long distance relationship with my ex-Thai girlfriend. As far as safety issues go I can say that I never felt any real danger (using common sense of course by not visiting all the bad neighbours in Bangkok). On the other hand the country is ruled -very destrictly I must say to the point you hardly realise it - by military junta so I can't say how good this is. Secondly I've heard that if you want to make business there, like opening a shop or restaurant, you must have a Thai partner with 50% ownership of your business. And lastly I'm not a fan of spicy food so I'd have a lot of trouble with this one. Oh, and traffic jam there is crazy. And scooters too.
This is really interesting to hear! Thanks for sharing your experience with us!🙏 We didn’t know some of these things. We know about the traffic jam and crazy scooters, and we heard about some nasty accidents too. We're not eating spicy at all. That would be a real struggle. Although we love asian food and cook it very often, it's never spicy😂.
@@Sunpire Thailand and Mexico are famous for their spicy cuisine. Not everything is spicy, for example I had a seaweed soup for breakfast and it was amazing! A #1 medicine for your stomach too! And then I remember the first time I tried wasabe (which is mostly japanese). I thought I was going to die from asphyxiation and then boom! my nose and throat opened like that clearing everything.
I’ve been to Thailand and Greece. These are my opinions.: beaches in Greece far better. Streets in Greece cleaner. Tap water in Greece is safe to drink, not in Thailand. I like how Greece has 4 seasons unlike Thailand that’s humid and hot all year.
Shall we revisit the decision to move to Crete until after you have been there a winter. We chose Nafplio for several reasons… we wanted to be in a year round place and I didn’t want to be trapped on an island in the winter when everything is closed and planes and ferries are very limited
I think it is best to choose the place that fits your needs the most. We didn't want to be in a place where everything is closed either, that's why we moved close to Chania. The flights are limited and more expensive during the winter from what we noticed, but you can find a flight with a stop through Athens, not direct flights. We will share our experience through the winter here , hopefully, it will be helpful 😊 Thanks for watching 🙏
I know exactly how Amalia feels. It's the same for me. Romania does not feel like home. I actually feel more at home when we go to Greece, which is where my GF is from.
Hello guys! It's my first comment on your video's. I've been watching you for a while and I really enjoy them! I'm from north Greece living in Cyprus. I visited Thailand (Bangkok & Phuket) for my honeymoon last December. I loved Bangkok because of the skyscrapers and the beautiful views. They are very nice and kind people. So far you have experienced Greek beaches, weather and food so you know how they are. Thailand's weather, beaches and food doesn't even compare to Greece (way worse) and also There is a huge cultural difference with Europeans.
Thank you for watching us and for your first comment 💙💙💙. These comments help us a lot because youtube is promoting more videos with a high number of comments, so if you don't feel like commenting but want to support us for making more videos, you can just put a smiley face 😊 and we are still happy 💙💙😊😊. It's hard to compare Greek food with any other food culture ❤️. Do you live in Cyprus 🇨🇾 ?
Thanks guys , such an interesting topic, everyone has thought about migrating somewhere else. If it was Asia,i would choose Philippines, English is widely spoken and it's cheaper. But the cons you said about Thailand are the same. Also these countries are hot like Greece but they are very humid too, which makes the heat more unbearable. For Greece, obviously the economy is number 1 problem. Then it's bureaucracy. If you can battle these two you will be great in Crete, it's a very welcoming place. Obviously if you chose Athens it would be a much different story, much more dystopian P.s i assume you have a translation app ready on your phone in case someone doesn't speak English?
The Philippines is also an interesting option, as you say many similarities with Thailand. Humidity is another good point we didn't mention, and it's important to take into consideration . As for Greece, I think it's reality important to come with the right mindset and expectations to fully enjoy it. We do use Google Translate on a daily basis for shopping and interacting with people. It's a must at this point for us.😅 Great comment! Thank you for watching and connecting with us!🙏💙💙💙
Thank you! We really appreciate all the feedback 🙏❤️ I don't think we'll make videos in romanian on this channel, we don't want to confuse the people 😅 I know many people watch while doing something else. Would you enjoy a video like that ? In romanian?😊
I’m Romanian living in NL in the last 16 years. And I have spent many months in Greece every year since 2021, would LOVE to move there! What kind of remote job do you have? Thanks
Well first of all i believe you will like living in Gr for the reasons you mentioned plus Greeks respect more the foreigners (tourism is number1 industry that exist there) than their own ppl imho ..i will be looking for a follow up video about your life there and the people you met ;)
We love being here so far, after 6 months. We'll probably do an update video here on the channel 🤔 We met amazing people while being here🥰 Thank you for watching 🙏
Certainly every country has its pros and cons. If I were to choose a place in the world besides Greece to live, I would definitely choose New Zealand, but perhaps the biggest negative is that it is on the other side of the world. 😅
New Zealand is an amazing place to live! 💙 As you say, it's very far away, and this comes with some strong downsides. There is a compromise in the end, wherever you choose to live, but so many good parts too.
That's great to hear! I don't know where this fear is coming from, towards healthcare. Regarding the water, this is what we thought too, here in Greece there are great beaches everywhere.
It is for sure! It can make all the difference. We are considering learning greek. It's the best way to interact with locals. For now, we're using Google Translate a lot until we learn more. Thanks for watching and commenting 🙏
It is awesome to see you guys already speaking Greek when you're out and about. Everyone has to start somewhere and it goes a long way with the Greek people as it does with all nationalities. Soon you will be saying malaka after every other word...😂
I love life in Greece from the retired person's point of view... But you did not speak at all about working conditions and opportunities: at your age, I would suppose this to be an important issue, no? Also, the choice of Crete - an island - versus Greece's mainland could be discussed to: Crete is a big tourist destination, but accessibility, a point you did discuss, is more of an issue there than in Greece's mainland. In any case, all the best to you, and if you need help or advice about the Athen's region, I would be happy to be of service!
Thanks for watching and for the help! 🙏 We work online at the moment. We did discuss a few things you mentioned in a previous video, "Why we chose Crete out of all Greece."
Personal opinion, as Greek living in Spain lasts 2 years. The food is not at same level. Sorry to say. We had disagreement with Spanish frinds for that, but after cooking some Greek dishes for them, the disagreement came to an end 😊. As well in restaurants and taverns if you got out from the pre selected "menu del dia"( that is relatively cheap). Then the bill is around 50% more expensive comparing with Greece. This comment is about food only in many other aspects Spain is more advanced than Greece.
We agree that Spanish food is not better than Greek food. Not many countries have better food than Greece, but this depends on one's taste and perspective 💙🙏.
In what country would you move to?
Norway, have been there, beutiful nature good economy, but it rains a lot :)

Now google this: "Europe Ultra peak mountains map"
And click and zoom in on the image from Peaklist website. (which is a map of Europe in green with all the red dots being Ultra peak mountains.
You see that Spain with its large but very rudimentary shape has 4 Ultra peak mountains on such a large land surface area.
*Now look at the 2 only regions in Europe that are filled with Ultra peak mountains.*
This is 1: The Alps which is shared by 8 nations
And 2: Greece.
*- Greece has 19 Ultra peak mountains,*
*- Spain only 4 on the mainland, (4 on all its islands abroadand in Med)*
*- Croatia 0,*
*- Switzerland 8,*
*- Austria 12.*
So. Greece has 19 Ultra peak mountains on a landsurface area of 132.000km2, while Spain has 4 on a land (4 on island in atlantic / mediterranean)surface area of 505.000 km2.
*Meaning in Greece you will find vastly higher density of mountain beauty than in Spain.*
Greece is truly exceptional in regard of its mountains, topography and geography

*So. What I am saying is.*
I said Greece has an exceptional beauty in a way that is different from others. But its the many facts like these, if you know them, that give a very clear answer to why that is.

I really like Amalia's straightforwardness. Raul, I have the impression that at some point you would like to go back to Romania.
MULCUMESK KOBLETSERE LAREVEDERE PRIETEN heheh!!
ευχαριστούμε που μας παρακολουθήσατε και για τα καλά σας λόγια 💙💙❤️❤️😊😊
Great👍👍
Thank you!🙏❤
you 2 are great...subbing!!
Thank you!🙏💙💙💙
if u want to live in greece but still want to talk romanian u can visit epirus where a whole region has a similar language like romanian, which is called aromanic and the ppl living there are called aromanian greek or vlachs.
That's interesting! We're happy here in Crete for now, hopefully we'll learn some greek soon!🇬🇷💙
We will share our experience through the winter here , hopefully, it will be helpful 😊
Thanks for watching 🙏
I know exactly how Amalia feels. It's the same for me. Romania does not feel like home. I actually feel more at home when we go to Greece, which is where my GF is from.
Home is where you feel at home, no matter the country. 💙
@@Sunpire that's exactly ir
Obviously if you chose Athens it would be a much different story, much more dystopian
P.s i assume you have a translation app ready on your phone in case someone doesn't speak English?
The Philippines is also an interesting option, as you say many similarities with Thailand. Humidity is another good point we didn't mention, and it's important to take into consideration .
As for Greece, I think it's reality important to come with the right mindset and expectations to fully enjoy it.
We do use Google Translate on a daily basis for shopping and interacting with people. It's a must at this point for us.😅
Great comment! Thank you for watching and connecting with us!🙏💙💙💙
Keep going ❤❤
Appreciate the support 🙏 💙💙💙❤️❤️
@@Sunpire I'm Sofia you know 😉
Hi, Sofia!🤗💙💙❤️ thank you for watching our videos!
I like this format, would you also make a video in romanian as well (with subtitles)?
Thank you! We really appreciate all the feedback 🙏❤️
I don't think we'll make videos in romanian on this channel, we don't want to confuse the people 😅
I know many people watch while doing something else.
Would you enjoy a video like that ? In romanian?😊
@@Sunpire I'm Greek and I'd prefer you speaking Romanian than English. Just put the proper subs on please!
I’m Romanian living in NL in the last 16 years. And I have spent many months in Greece every year since 2021, would LOVE to move there! What kind of remote job do you have? Thanks
Hello Silvia, Thank you for watching us 💙 . We work in translations . Check out the video with " 3 months update"
We'll probably do an update video here on the channel 🤔
We met amazing people while being here🥰
Thank you for watching 🙏
Oh no, Raul is considering Romania. Amalia get a plot already!😂
Working on it!😂😂😂
Certainly every country has its pros and cons. If I were to choose a place in the world besides Greece to live, I would definitely choose New Zealand, but perhaps the biggest negative is that it is on the other side of the world. 😅
New Zealand is an amazing place to live! 💙
As you say, it's very far away, and this comes with some strong downsides. There is a compromise in the end, wherever you choose to live, but so many good parts too.
healthcare is amazing in Thailand, but spot on for the water, you cant companre unless you go to some very remote island in Thailand like Koh Lipe.
That's great to hear! I don't know where this fear is coming from, towards healthcare.
Regarding the water, this is what we thought too, here in Greece there are great beaches everywhere.
❤️
Normally, language is a very important fact when you live in a foreign place.
Are you considering learning Greek or it's too soon for that?
It is for sure! It can make all the difference.
We are considering learning greek. It's the best way to interact with locals. For now, we're using Google Translate a lot until we learn more.
Thanks for watching and commenting 🙏
@@Sunpire When you learn to speak Greek you will realize how many English words come from the Greek language..😅
@@Sunpire Greek is not only good for interacting with the Greeks around you, it will open your horizons too in a way no other language can!
We work online at the moment.
Καλως ηλθατε welcome...how is it in Romanian?
In Romania, life is harder than here in Greece. We have good things and bad things there like in any other country. 💙😊
Oh sorry for my bad wording...I meant what's the word for welcome in Romanian :)
Oh, thank you 💙💙🙏🙏👍🏻. The word is : Bine ati venit
wondering if you guys have already spent a winter in crete already - isnt it a dead town.
We moved here in February, so we spent half of the winter here, let's say😅. The area we live in (Chania) is not dead , that's why we chose it.
Where are you watching from?😊
