- วิทยาศาสตร์และเทคโนโลยี
As a young lad during the war I saw one of the thousand bombers flying just above the rooftop of our house on their way out to Germany. Just wave after wave that sound that evening will stay with me for ever.
The sound of 4 V12's is great but the sound of 8 V12's is UNBELIEVABLE!!!
I was lucky enough to witness a pair in flight at Dunsford when the Canadians did a tour, I cannot explain my physical reaction to those 2 aircraft coming a me from above only to say it was almost an out of body experience, my very good friend/host beside me didn't understand why i was shaking an almost crying..... Won't forget that day .
it is undoubtedly one of the best bombers ever but let us never forget the brave young men who had to fly these into battle over Europe & Germany in very difficult conditions, the average age being 21. Please wear your poppy with pride to show respect & honor for their unselfish sacrifice , we salute you all
What's better than a Lancaster flying by?!
Two Lancasters flying by.
Know what would be even better?
If we can get "Just Jane" up there with them and have 3 in formation.
Saw these two at the Southport airshow a few weeks back and they sure do fill the sky, I remember thinking what a couple of hundred of these would be like going overhead.
Wow, grew up in Woodvale...do they still have an Airshow on the Sands?
Research the ' Thousand Bomber Raids' Lancasters, Halifaxs, (probably) Stirlings and definitely DH Mosquitoes...
That was a stirring sight; the two of them, with their motors all nicely synchronised, wheeling in perfect harmony above the country where they were conceived. I agree with Ian Davies - we preserve the machines in memory of the men who flew in them, to show we´re grateful and that we haven´t forgotten.
Simply beautiful. It's like watching two childhood friends meeting up together for the first time in years. Theres a third Lancaster being restored to air worthy condition as we speak. My God it will be beyond fantastic to see three flying together in the VIC formation.
I heard there's a fourth being restored to airworthy condition over in Canada, although I can't confirm.
I am led to believe there is an American based Lancaster being restored to flying condition.
@@roberthall1080 If it is the Lanc that was being restored in Trenton Onatrio, sadly she was not being restored to flight status, just for static display. My dad was one of the gang working on the restoration before his passing. Thanks for your part in helping to keep some history around dad. Sounds like the Windsor Ontario one is also just for display.
Thank you Canada for contributing to this glorious sight and sound. Well done boys for keeping these flying instead of stuffed and mounted,it brings tears to the eyes
I wish they would fly the British lanc over so we could have the same treat.
Hard to imagine 800 to 1000 of these things dropping bombs on your City ! Scary...
Mesmerizing..i could watch those two Lanc's circle all day long. Any pilot that does not want to fly one of those...is not truly a pilot in their heart.
Thanks for sharing bub, Cheers from Canada.!!
I was lucky enough to see these two flying together on their way to the Derbyshire reservoirs where the Dam Busters practiced for their famous raid.
Sitting at my computer I heard THAT sound. It kinda registered subconsciously, and I thought "Merlin ?". Then "More than one Merlin ?". Then "OMG ! LOTS of Merlins !".
I leapt from my chair and stuck my head out of the window to be greeted by the glorious sight of the two Lancasters less than half a mile south of me, close enough that I could make out the people in the cockpits. I'll never forget it. 😁
these flew over my house on the way to Eastbourne accompanied by a spitfire and hurricane, unbelievable noise they made
Now imagine hundreds flying over with a mixed escort of hundreds more
BEAUTIFUL machines! What pride, gallantry, and legacy of an era, albeit in war. Thanks.
55,573 KIA. I salute them all!!! Hopefully these aircraft will continue to educate our children as to what our fathers and grandfathers did for us.
i live in Hamilton ontario were the lancaster vera calls home :3 she flies weekly, and you can fly in her but its hella expensive I've only been inside while she was grounded in the museums hanger
I wish that people were able to fly in the british one
lump in your throat and tears in your eyes........gota love that sound and style......nothing like it!
Fantastic footage with no banal chatter. Well done. The logo placing spoils the footage though IMO.
So good to watch. My Da was part of 158 Sqn. as a Wop/AG flying in Halifax bombers, but apparently flew a few sorties in Lanc's. Query, the positioning of the mid upper on both these aircraft. I didn't know that there where 2 different designs and positioning across the different model's of the Lancaster.
I was visiting the Canadian Museum in Hamilton Ontario Canada in 2014 and saw their Lancaster and while I was there the Confederate Airforce Liberator "Diamond Lil" arrived for a display.A great experience for someone from Australia.I thoroughly recommend a visit to that Museum
+Ken Smith Small world Ken--I was there too, but not the day of the Liberator. It was in late June when I was there with my Canadian cousin. we had a long talk with one of the crew, who gave us lots of info about 'Vera's' visit. I took a lot of photographs right up close to her--touching even. Looking into those massive open bomb doors was a great experience.
It's a shame a third flyable lanc can't be given to Australia. You played a role in Bomber Command too.
I dont know how much you are into aviation but Toronto had a great Museum at Downsview.I was lucky to make a visit before it was closed because the space was wanted for other purposes. The exhibits I believe are containerised and stored at Pearson airport with the exception of the 2 largest exhibits, a Lancaster, under restoration and a full scale mock up of the Avro Arrow.I understand attempts are being made to find another home for the museum.
We do have a non flying Lanc here,in the National War Memorial Museum in Canberra. It is "G" for George a very famous aircraft in Australian aviation history. She flew 90 missions over Germany with the RAAF based in Britain.Australians were scattered throughout Bomber Command and some took part in the Dam Busters raid.
Thanks for the heads up about the lanc and avro arrow at Pearson, I didn't know about that. I guess what I meant is it would be great for Australians to see and hear a lanc flying over since it's such an incredible sound. Is the G for George the Buckham crew? I don't think Australia gets enough credit for what you did in Bomber command.
saw them both at Duxford 14/09/2014, awesome ladies and that sound...............love em
Stunningly gorgeous and breathtaking they circled around my estate in Northampton in that August of 2014 along with two spitfires a hurricane and another bbmf plane. Unforgettable sight, would be awesome if we could have a couple more become airworthy in the UK so they could fly together and bring the Canadian one back over for good measure 😂😂❤❤
It's a beautiful thing, one of the few sounds to make the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end is the Lancaster flying over, can't wait to see two of them.
Never thought I'd say this... 'Look at those LancasterS'!!!
any relation to GC Douglas Bader?
Beautiful sight, Beautiful sound...!
Well done to everyone involved.
This is a beautiful site. Like two birds of prey together.
I'm mesmorised
Beautiful big bird, beautiful men who flew her
I've seen VRA at the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum on a couple of occassions... Amazing machine. :)
Great pictures
Love it! Is one of these aircraft the one owned by the Canada Warplane Heritage Museum in Canada? If so, I have a video of it on my channel as well. Thanks for sharing this beauty!
+Tiffany Branton Hi Tiffany, yes it is. You had a great spot for filming the Lanc and B25
+Airshow World Yes, we were very fortunate. I had only heard of the event the day before and it was really nice of them to let us get so close.
+Tiffany Branton Tiffany---the Canadian Lanc (Vera) is the one following . In all the displays they did together, I think 'Vera' took first position only once--when she was about to fly home, and her RAF escort left her when she did her fairwell passing over Lincoln City.
Tiffany Branton yup Vera is often seen flying over my city of Hamilton ontario
Yup, AFAIK these are the only two flying Lancs remaining on the planet.
The second most beautiful aircraft ever built after the Spitfire
God i would have loved to be there! I would have had tears in my eyes for sure
A fabulous memory of a great day.
That Canadian built Lancaster has the Packard built 225 Merlins in it, which is symbolic as one half of ALL lancaster bomber built, and 3.040 of them in England and 400 in Canada had the USA built by Packard, Merlins in them......FYI
The fact that only 2 remain is absolutely tragic.
This plane just so beautyful
Out standing!
,
My uncle flew Lancasters but was unable to get a driving licence because he was not old enuff. He was 19 or 20
super, thanks for sharing
the Lanc always reminded me of a big locust, somehow, in its overall configuration - but also as a slim, elegant, and deadly piece of well-crafted weaponry
Very well crafted weaponry..
Did you know Roy Chadwick who designed the lancaster was born in Lancashire
That pilot in the plane behind is BOSS imagine flying so close behind in all that turbulence.....wow I am not a diehard plane looney but I love the sound of those prop engines!!! they sound to mee the same as the Dakota engines. Same?
No Lancaster had Rolls Royce merlin inline engines, Dakota had Radials but cant remember which ones exactly
The second Lancaster is flying slightly lower. I think this could be to avoid the turbulence effect?.
I've just noticed the difference in position of the 2 upper turrets on these aircraft. Does anybody what variants each aircraft is?
❤❤❤❤beautiful ❤❤❤❤❤❤
How about everyone who likes this contribute to the fund trying to put Just Jane at East Kirkby back in the air so we can continue to have two Lancs in the air when VERA goes home????
Merveilleux Lancaster, merci les anglais de nous redonner la liberté
I was of the impression that only one Lancaster had survived. What happened?
lovely, Lovely, LOVELY
Would love to fly in one. A magnificent bomber indeed.
Wow 8 merlins, goose bumps or what
Amazing
what can I say...I love the Harrier AV8. I know the F35 is a worthy successor, but it aint the same
I am wondering; how they brought the Canadian Lancaster to the UK?
It was flown over, It took around 4 days, via the North Atlantic,
It's was called the Ferry Command. They left from Dorval airport in Montreal where there is a plaque commemorating them. My friend's father ferried hundreds of them across!
Forgive me if i'm wrong but i thought these Lancs flew together during the making of the film the Dam-busters.
I think they last flew during the actual dam busters
I found myself working in Canberra Australia a few years ago and took a look at their war museum, stunning building , inside sat R for Robert mint condition' and was told would still fly . well worth a visit if you find yourself in that part of the world .
Pete Greenwood im actually in oz quite a bit as I have family over there and to be honest I wouldn't have even thought of looking for any lancasters there. same goes for one of these as its Canadian, and would never think to look for one there neither lol
Pete Greenwood G for George mate.
Malcolm Herbert you had me digging out old photos and i stand corrected sir,
R G - W 4783 . G for Gorge .
very cool
magic!!
Wow the last surviving 'FLY WORTHY' Lancaster's ever to survive the war👏👏🙌🙏🙏
Roughly half of the 7000 + Lancasters survived the war, less the number scrapped/ cannibalized for parts etc to keep the rest going. ..
However at the end of the war there was a huge number of aircraft with no war to fight.. so they were scrapped for the metal to start making other stuff that was in short supply and also to rebuild an export economy..
Some were kept as emergency spare bombers. Some were converted to civilian use. Some were sold off (French Navy being a good example).
@@paulluce2557 oh right, thanks for telling me, sorry for the very late reply aswell but thats good to know that there were alot more Lancaster bombers that survived the war, it's a shame though that only 2 of them are allowed to fly for performances and air shows
Engineer Ivor hayes on lancasters
Sadly, these planes and the men that flew them were products of a UK that no longer exists.
makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up !
5 Dresden people didn't like
That burble....
shame the camera settings are all set wrong for props looks stupid
itellzzz Yes it was very annoying about the props, my best camera gave up on me so I to use an emergency camera with no shutter settings, I have now got over the problem by using an ND filter
