      The real advantage to the 6.5 creedmoor happens at longer ranges. With a 145 grain Barnes bullet it is 2nd only to the 50 BMG in terms of aspect ratio and ballistics. The 6.5 creedmoor stays supersonic out past 1400 yards. The .308 drops below supersonic around 800 yards. The 6.5 Creedmoor whips the .308 in terms of energy retention at distance.

    Cool vid! I had to laugh some when things went wrong - they go wrong for me, too! I'm going to stick with my 308. Or my 6.5. Maybe my '06. Or the .300 WM. Maybe the 6.8, 300 BLK. The .45-70 is cool, also. Got love for the .44 Mag, .460 Mag, .357 mag, .454 Casull...not sure what I'll be taking into the woods. Anyways, cool vid!!

    Yes sir it dose look like a tie in the milkjug test.
    But in my opinion let's look at some logistics of these two rounds . The 308 Winchester stayed together through and through and did not loose its jacket , so therefore the 308 held its velocity and therefore the 308 wound channel would have been greater than the 6-5 . Now the reason in my opinion is because of the 6-5 lost its jacket therefore the 6-5 held its velocity , but upon impact the 6-5 bullet would have lost it's inertia after impact because after the bullet lost it's jacket , the wound channel would not have been as great as the 308 Winchester . Because 6-5 by loosing it's jacket and all of it's velocity after impact , the lost of it's jacket therefore there is a very big chance the Deer might have gotten away and die a couple of days later and the hunter may never have found the Deer because it took the animal 3 days to bleed out an die just because of the loss of it's jacket.
    So just saying , that bullets needs to keep its clothes on ( jacket ) so the high velocity speed of the bullet will hold together through and through the animal after impact .
    Kaboom dear dead !
    It's a long story , and sorry O just needed bring out my own opinion .
    Thanks again for another great video 👍 and it was fun to watch , looking forward to see ya next time. LATER !!!!!

      Had that actually happen to me. Hit the shoulder and it went down. Got back up and ran off on 3 legs. Didn't leave enough of a blood trail to follow. Looked for it again and even days later looking for buzzards but never did find it. We presumed bullet failure. Now I rely on my 308 or 30-06

    Thank you for providing invaluable information!
    I can't elaborate on this in here but the point is that with your couple of milk jug tests
    you actually got so much physics basics that proves the concepts of the drag coefficient and its effect on the shape and size of the object.
    This is insanely awesome especially when it does translate to what caliber and what round rifle one shall purchase.
    Thank you once again!
    These tests couldn't be much more useful!
    P.S. I deliberately don't reply to your thank you message so this message can stay visible in the thread rather being dug in replys.

    In order to have an apple to apple comparison, the sectional density of these two bullets should be the same. The 125 grains 6.5 bullet has a SD of 0.2562, the equivalent in .308 would be a 170 grains bullet with a SD of 0.2560. A 168 bullet in .308 would be good enough and it is likely that it would have gone a bit further, at least one more jug if not two more than the 150 grains you used that has a SD of 0.2259.

    As to what is best round for deer hunting, in principal I agree with you, the rounds being cheaper never hurts, but depending on a person's exact needs as far as what type of deer and where they are hunting. I can make a case for a 30 30 lever gun in some situations, or a 30 06 in others. IN my world growing up, there were really only the three choices for deer rounds, 30 30 308 and 30 06, everything else was considered oddball.

      @@2wheeleddemon999 Most everybody did. We didn't even scope the 30 06 tho, wasn't required in most cases. Of course, my brother and I were well trained on open sights. He scoped everything as he got older and his eyes weren't so good. I never did, but then I didn't go hunting a lot. My concerns then were strictly close range and not wild animals, tho you could say some of them were worse than wild animals. wild animals don't kill without cause as a general rule.

    Watched two of these videos now and seems like the 6.5 doesn’t like to stay together. I would be extremely concerned how this bullet holds together when hitting dense tissue or bone. Even the cartridge just looks goofy. Like it’s not proportionate. Think I’ll go with the 7mm-08 for my first deer rifle.

    I shoot gallon jugs (milk jugs) with a 22 cal PCP air rifle and it goes thru 3 jugs and damages the fourth with not much pellet expansion. You are shooting a 308 and penetrate 3 and catch in the 4th. Only one one milk jug different. I was shooting a 29.18 H&N Piledriver round nose pellet at 830fps. Why would an air rifle get this much penetration and what does it mean? Also I was setup at 20 yards from the milk jugs and you are setup much closer.

    • @Frostbight118
      @Frostbight118 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The slow velocity of the pellet keeps the lead intact enough to keep penetrating. The high velocity of the rifle rounds causes them to mushroom and shed energy more quickly. He did a similar test with 30-30 vs 308 and the slower 30-30 made it through 5 or 6 jugs

  • @rgh470
    @rgh470 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Interesting, I kinda thought that the 308 would win because of the greater mass = more energy at the short distance your shooting, looks like about 10 yards. I’d like to see what happens at a longer distance, maybe shoot the same experiment at your 80 yard range, the 6.5 with its better B.C. might just surprise you.
    All that being said I really enjoy your videos, why, because you’re real, you make mistakes, have equipment problems and you don’t edit them out, you have fun!

    I've been shooting a 30-06 for a few years and just recently wanted to get a new rifle. I've been looking at the ruger american predator in 6.5 and really like it. We shoot deer usually around 75-100 yards and sometime over 300. I think the 6.5 would be a good round be perfect because it shoots pretty flat and you wouldn't have to adjust like I have been with the 30-06

      Hey man, I've got the same gun. But if you can, don't put a round in the chamber with the muzzle pointing down bc the cartridge may not seat properly and you may not get a good primer indentation. I know bc it happened to me, but I was given 3 chances by the Lord and I got the turkey the third time. The strange thing is, I've only killed one deer with it (it was close up, about 27 yds, but it bleed nice & didn't go far) but I've killed 2 toms with it. I use the nosler 147 grain bronze ballistic tip. Hope you enjoy it!
