LOL sorry! It was a last minute decision honestly. I would just rather let the game speak for itself. Theories are SO much fun, but i think they can also take people away from the experience. And, I'll probably be totally wrong. I can't decide if I want to be right or wrong because I LOVE a surprise twist.
Here’s a crazy theory. What if depending on your final choice from the first game, in each episode we get a flashback which show us moments of Max’s life set after the first game? For example: Sacrifice Chloe: Set after Chloe’s funeral, Max visit’s Chloe’s house and talks with Joyce and David. Joyce will give Max some of Chloe’s belongings. Sacrifice Arcadia Bay: Max and Chloe are staying at a motel whilst travelling to Seattle. They will comfort each other with the aftermath over what they have been through.
If chloe and max aren't friends or an item in the Bae ending I'll be upset. Not read the comics, so im not sure if I'm missing anything important, but LIS2 specifically goes out of it's way to tell us they're happy
In an interview the creators mentioned that players can decide whether Chloe is alive and if Max romanced her in the first game. Depending on these choices, the gameplay changes to adapt to that ending. I think this could mean that Chloe can have a decent role in the story, even though you mentioned it might be too complicated for the creators to code. It reminds me of Until Dawn where many characters can die at many points in the story, and if they survive (depending on your gameplay), they remain significant to the story. If you keep them alive, you experience additional character interactions and scenes. I feel like it could apply to this game; if you choose to save Chloe, you get scenes with her that don't directly affect the ending, and if you didn’t choose to save her then you don’t, it won’t directly change the story so it might not be too difficult.
I think it should not matter what you did in LiS 1.. the game should play the same... Yes references of chloe is fine.. but the game should never be different
I love your take on this. I've been reading reddit a lot and anything other than happy ever after with no trauma gets downvoted to oblivion so to see a mature opinion on this is very refreshing.
Thank you for acknowledging that her referring to Chloe as a high school sweetheart is her not wanting to discuss her past. I feel like people have been up in arms but that's exactly how I interpreted that choice myself.
- After 'Chloe 2' looks like it could be the name of a place possibly? She's labelling where she got the pics and/or switched timelines? - As much as it'd be cute to have a Chloe-Max perfect ending, I'm actually more intrigued by the mystery of how much she will be part of it. I appreciated how the storm/Chloe's death was dealt with in Steph's story while giving her the space for her own main story. - I would actually respect a 'we mean a lot to each other but have moved on' story between Max & Chloe. It feels more real to life. A lot happens in 10 years and that includes your social circle (even if you have been friends since childhood!). Especially after experiencing what has likely become C-PTSD. - Hoping for an actual cameo from Chloe but betting on it appearing in a dream/memory/time fragment (like in the nightmare sequences of the first game). Hahahaha skipping through your theories is SO MEAN 🤣😭😂 I started yelling at my computer! I KNEW I SHOULD HAVE PUT THEM IN AS TRUTH DONATIONS.
Ya I was thinking that too about the locations, and that "Chloe. Arcadia Bay" is technically Chloe #1... possibly. I tried to find places that matched the letters too, but didn't get anywhere. LOL I would've taken a drink for sure with that T/D question!!

Chloe and Max being broken up, or Chloe appearing very little, especially in a Bae ending where you are shipping Pricefield will be a real slap in the face to a lot of fans. I can’t see them dropping the ball that hard but we will see
There was a book released last year I think it was... called Steph's Story... which chronicles the time from Steph meeting Izzie, forming the band, and then ends with her getting an apartment in Haven Springs.. which means it basically covers a year or so prior to Wavelengths... Anyway... in the foreward the author admits she went with saving Chloe, and Steph actually ran into Chloe and ' her girlfriend Max ' and has a brief thought process about Max... I sincerely hope in the new game Chloe is still alive somewhere...
I couldn't agree more with what you said at the end. I personally enjoy both endings and have done both many times, and I'm definitely going to be playing Double Exposure at least twice (probably more, if we're being real) to see how each specific ending impacts Max and the story. I have always been the type of person to love a good story more than a happy ending, and that's part of why I'm (often alone) in my fascination with the Sacrifice Chloe ending for the OG LIS. The idea of Max being the only person with the memories of falling in love with Chloe--as far as anyone is concerned in that timeline, Max and Chloe never reunited, never fell in love, and Chloe died alone in that bathroom never seeing Max again. I know a lot of people take issue with Deck Nines writing, which is fair even if I don't agree, but I personally adore their character focused stories rather than big picture plots. True Colours is very close to beating the original for me for that reason---sure, Alex's power is hardly as bombastic as Max and Daniel's powers, but it's a deep insight into Alex as a person. Her story, I would argue, has the most complex choices where there is simply no correct answer. Plus, the suddenness of Gabe's death, the themes of grief, they really mean a lot to me and I love how it was written by Deck Nine. The plot of Gabe's death and solving it takes a backseat, it's the vehicle for Alex's emotional journey into growing into her own, and I'm hoping we will get a similar approach this time around for Double Exposure. Sure, we're solving a supernatural mystery, but I think the main themes of this game will be loss and grief regardless of what you chose. Either way Max will feel guilty, whether that be for 'letting' Chloe die, or sacrificing everyone in Arcadia for her closest person. Her being so closed off is interesting, and I'm really excited to see her with new characters and be able to have own story away from Chloe (for the most part) much like how we got a real character study into Chloe in Before The Storm. I also think a lot of people forget that simply giving the fans the perfect happy ending with Chloe and Max is still a dishonest and cash grabbing approach. If they forced you into romancing Chloe and saving her, then the impact of the original becomes meaningless. One of my favourite explorations of Max in the Sacrifice Chloe timeline is gone. That's just as shitty as it would be to completely cut Chloe out. Besides, I doubt Deck Nine would be so open about Chloe if she had zero impact. To me, I'm confident (whether I enjoy the game or not, and whether it is 'objectively good' or not) that this isn't a cash grab on Deck Nine's part. Square Enix is another story, but I won't get into that lol. If Deck Nine wanted to cash in on the Pricefield shippers and make a load of money, they'd give us Max and Chloe no doubt, they wouldn't tease, they wouldn't have conflict. The fact they're willing to risk 'upsetting' fans and refusing fan service gives me confidence they're doing something that will serve the story they want to tell, that will serve Max's development as a character, and that this REALLY is the story they truly want to tell. Watching the interviews with the two directors, you can see and hear their passion. They care about this game and this story, and they make it clear they want to respect the original and Don't Nod as they continue Max's story. I think regardless of how good the game ends up being, that alone is nice to see. Plus, I doubt Hannah Telle would return if they completely butchered Max's story, considering how deeply she cares for this character. In the end, I don't have many theories myself about how Chloe will return. I just have a feeling she will be a lingering presence over the story, that is clear by how Max wants to keep her Chloe Price entangled past private. I'm excited to see what they do with this game, and it's nice to see someone who not only (from what I can tell) also cares about this story being realistic rather than fantasy whilst also maintaining the same love I have for both Max and Chloe. The fact you shared your thoughts despite knowing it might be unpopular with fans is commendable, and I love your maturity when approaching this. Of course, Max and Chloe's relationship will be different from when they were 18, for better or for worse. Of course Max won't always say what she means---those more subtle writing choices is what I enjoy from Deck Nine. I'm excited to see more of your thoughts on Double Exposure, and I'll be right alongside you trying to track the undoubtable crazy amount of replays, choices and outcomes on the horizon. Agree with what you said at 17:49 100%. I was with my current partner now back in 2014 we drifted and got back together a little later. We now have 3 beautiful kids and 2 dogs ❤❤ Super excited for October ive pre ordered it
YES the ending is to this video SO TRUE! I want the next game to feel REAL and adult and complex and to dive into Max’s traumas from her past (especially since there’s been possible leaks of the Dark Room pictures being in this game) and not just be some fanservice-y game where Max and Chloe are dating and nothing ever goes wrong, you know? I’m trying not to get my hopes up because we’re speaking about Decknine and SE here but I really hope this game doesn’t just go the fanservice route. 😭
ALSO I think I know what you might have been saying in the censored part so feel free to delete my comment if I get too close but MY prediction is that Chloe is alive in the timeline where Safi is dead and the conversation we see where you choose between Pricefield being “just friends” or “high-school sweethearts” is from the “Safi is alive” timeline where Chloe is dead and this conversation comes after Max discovers that Chloe is dead in this timeline. I’m not sure how the romance with Amanda or possibly even Safi would fit in here but this is just my theory. Also going off what you were saying with the ending choice, my first thought was having to choose between the “Safi alive but Chloe dead timeline” or the “Chloe alive but Safi dead timeline” but that would mean this choice would have to get rid of Max’s shifting power to make the choices actually be final. I also feel like this ending would be too easy of a choice and most people would immediately choose Chloe to be alive, and it could be too similar of an ending to the first game. But that’s just a theory, a LIFE IS STRANGE THEORY!!

i think there's gonna be a scene around episode three or four where you get a visit from a friend. it'll either be Chloe or someone else from Arcadia Bay depending on what you chose. the scenes with be different but similar enough to be interchangeable and short lived
I wonder if Chloe and Max finally reached a breaking point after a few years from the first game. If the player chooses to save Chloe in the first game, maybe the guilt and weight of that decision would weigh heavily on both Max and Chloe. In almost every game after the first Life is Strange game at the beginning they always ask what your decision was from the very first game, that choice still effects the universe of these games in every installment. There was almost always some form of mention or character you could come upon in the subsequent games. In the scene with Max holding Chloe's picture in the trailer, she looks either sad or disgruntled, I did not pick up any loving vibes, just exhasberation.
I have BIG THEORY! I feel sooo sure the alt reality Max shifts into will be the reality of the choice she didn't make!! So Bay Max is going to shift into a reality where Chloe is alive - and she's going to discover as soon as she walks into her home they have a life together, a life she could have had, but cannot have, because it's another Max's life! And Bae Max will shift into a reality where Chloe is dead and will discover how lonely she is without her Chloe - but how so many people who died in the storm are now alive. They said the endings connect... this feels like the way! And this could have Chloe appear on the Bay Path... imagine Bay Max meeting an alive Chloe.... it would be like the William moment all over again, but even more emotional for Max! Chloe may be with Max presently OR she is visiting David and so on Bae path and Bay's alternate world Max will meet with her at some point. I think Chloe 2 with the name has something to do with this theory!!! Also this is how they avoid making TWO different games ;) Because Max and the player will not only be confronting their past and past choice, but the alt reality will take us into the world of the choice we DIDN'T make, forcing us to have face our choice, question if we made the right choice... it just makes sense to me! How do you do a game where there are two endings? You make the alt reality the OTHER ending!! And then Max's texts/journals for example will just be FLIPPED! I wonder if this is your theory you hid out XD I will say this - I believe Max and Chloe are soul mates, but I do think Bay path Max, who has a romance, will have to find closure with her choice. She cannot have the life of the other choice, because it belongs to another Max, and Chloe is in love with another Max. So I think she will have to find closure. She can't have Chloe in the choice where she let her die... but maybe she can find peace knowing there are worlds out there where they do...

What if Chloe and Max drifted apart in between the first game and DE, but then appears just in the ending? Like Safi goes: “Look who I’ve found!” And Max turns around and theres Chloe, and then the credits roll
I agree with you 100%. What Max and chloe had was amazing, but far from perfect, they only had a week to get to know each other again. After 5 years apart, they had both changed, especially chloe. Maybe Max realized that they were too different and decided to go separate ways
i cannot agree about that last part, about max and chloe's relationship. making them break up slash fall apart would completely alienate those who chose to both save and romance chloe. i know that photo in lis2 is old, but this is the last thing we had of max and chloe up until DE and nothing indicates that they would NOT stick together. choosing chloe is already a hard choice in itself, because it's one person over a whole town, so in the end if you can't even have her, what's the point? i'm not saying it won't happen, but i'd be extremely disappointed in D9 if it does. like, congrats, you saved the girl, but you can't have her though. i think personally that the choices you make during the conversation with safi will determine the romance availability (if you tell safi max is dating chloe, amanda is locked out). and that those choices (we WERE just friends / childhood sweethearts) presented are worded this way because she previously asked something related to arcadia bay. in this path, i believe this is in past tense *because* you chose the bay option previously. so in my mind, the convo will go 1- bay/bae? and then 2- romanced chloe or not?

Max's story would feel hollow if there was no Chloe in it. One of the reason Life is Strange 1 was so good is because of the dynamic between these 2. And the whole story revolves around them and over come shyness and indecisive, which is the core character of Max, and Chloe is price for that. Without Chloe, it seems incomplete, at least that how I feel.
this is probably just me clowning, but another thing i was reminded of while watching this was how, when the trailer for ep 4 of the original game came out, it had a lot of shots from the ep but they removed chloe from them. like max and chloe would both be in a shot in the game, but chloe was removed from that same shot for the trailer (to avoid the spoilers of which timeline max was in). SO, again, i’m probably clowning here, what if they are doing something like that here 👀
I think it would be interesting if the two dimensions max can travel through its a dimension where she choose to save Chloe and another where she saves the city. So both ending would be present and we could enjoy time with Chloe. But I know its not going to be that way
I like what you said about them not being together even if Chloe is in the game because I’ve thought the same thing I was 14 when I played the first game and I really liked Chloe and Max together, but when I played it again last year I was like damn there’s no way they would last as a couple lol I know people usually dislike when media is realistic in that regard but I think it’s a pretty common thing to happen as you grow up
In my humble opinion, I believe they will ask what choices you made in the first Life is Strange to tailor the story to those choices, So, if you romanced Chloe and saved her shes still around and will pop up in this story, If you romanced and sacrificed her Max will look longingly at Chloe's photo and maybe have inner turmoil romancing another character in this story, and perhaps if you didn't romance Chloe (why wouldn't you?) then maybe she visits Max at college/Max reminisces how good of friends they were back in the day
That's what I was thinking. Because not everyone (like myself) saved chloe. I couldn't do that to a town and personally it's what chloe wanted herself in the end.
I’m assuming that Chloe will be in double exposure, and that the game will be centered around her. I don’t want to give any spoilers away, but I will say that I believe that double exposure is going to follow the consequences of both endings from the first life is strange game, which is why there will be dual timelines in that game.
The "#2 Photo Proof" It's "Chios" not "Chloe" and actually makes sense... If you look at the big picture, not just this photo, you'll see a wall with photos and notes about locations... You can see "Milagros" which is a city in the Philippines. You can also see a photo of "Merida, Mexico" which is the capital of Yucatán state in Mexico. This photo makes sense it is "Chios" which is an island in Greece and we talking about locations. The second word looks like "Ooreooke" or "Oorsooke". Oorsooke looks like a native american word and could just be the dog's name, what doesn't make a lot of sense is that a dog in Greece has a native American word as his name (?) And if you put "Ooreooke" on Google it's detected as a word of some African language and it means "ears/eyes" and makes more sense than the other word.
I'm fine with Chloe not being around. She was problematic not just in her as a person but her very existence just seemed to unravel the world. I feel like that's going to happen again with this new girl. The world is going to unravel. However there is a timeline where she is alive so perhaps the consequences won't be so devastating. I just watched another TH-camr suggest that moving through timelines is her true power, not actually rewinding in the sense we assumed so that's something to consider as well. I'm interested to know what's going to happen regardless of how this plays out. Personally I think Chloe's role and purpose in Max's life has already been fulfilled... Kinda like mmm.... Cautionary tale or a trial run maybe. Like a pretest before the real exam is to begin. But that's just how it feels to me.
i feel like however they bring chloe in, it can’t be integral to the actual plot/mystery since she’d be dead for other players, so i think they could treat it like they did kate after ep 2 of the original game, where she can have little texts and mentions and even a not-plot-driving scene where she shows up
Spoilers below for LIS 1 Now it's been a little bit since I played through the ending of the first game, but if you choose the bay choice, don't you just rewind right back to the start of the game? In this version of events, Max leaves for Seattle, and never meets Chloe again after that. Chloe is shot dead by Nathan in the bathroom. Max has the memories of the first game, but on that she's alone. From everybody else's perspective, she and Chloe did not know each other at the time. They just used to be best friends as kids. I for sure don't keep photos of the best friends I had as a kid in my wallet, especially pictures from when they were 18 and we hadn't spoken for years. This is one way of saying I don't understand the timeline if you choose to let Chloe die, but am I just misremembering the ending of the first game or missing some other detail?
Chloe or no Chloe I'm gonna love this game because having max back is good enough for me, also my feeling is that Chloe not being in this game gives Decknine the ability to have another game for Chloe but that's just a thought I have.

I grew up heavily influenced by Star Trek AND especially by Captain Spock... so ' The Needs of the many, outweigh the needs of the few... or the one...' is one of the base principles of my life... So my response to the choice to save many ( sacrifice Chloe ) or to save one ( sacrifice Arcadia Bay ) is simple... Screw Arcadia Bay... I'm saving Chloe.... I lost my own High School love almost 30 years ago, and I'd do anything... ANYTHING... to save her... to be with her again... And to expect me to sacrifice Chloe for simple logic... that is asking too much... Logic be damned... I pick Chloe... And she better return here... or I ain't buying this game...

I’ve already preordered it! Now they’re working with a multiple timeline scenario then they could use each ending as canon for each timeline. Max created the initial rift, and it’s following her.

im worried it will be like this: Max will just get a phone call from her if you kept her alive. we wont be seeing a new character model for her because it would be too much work for a little tease, we didnt even get new artwork for the picture she had in her wallet it was just a render of her old model.
I believe anything that shows Chloe in the game, will be more of a past reference using Max's powers. I don't think she will be a significant portion of the new game.

Chloe will be back no other way arround it. I kinda don't like the idea that the shift would bring Chloe back if you sacrificed her at LIS1 (again circling to the point of keeping both endings real) . Memories or dreams or something like that could be. That photo thing I complitely missed, Photo power making a return in some form would make sense becouse this new power seems to be direct evolution of it. With this games premise just abaut anything is possible, but in codingwise I'd say Chloe playing bigger role is complitely impossible
For me life is strange 1 has a cannon ending The storm premonitions started happening before max saved Chloe so the storm was always coming for the bay So the chole dies and the storm doesn't happen ending can't exist so i didn't have a final choice i had only one ending that logically made sense
I don't understand why there can't be depth in an ending if they stay together. It's up to Deck Nine to be able to write something really good. Because Michel Koch gives this to the fans at the end of the first game when you save Chloe, there's a tweet from him about it: "but they leave together, alive. They have plenty of time, their adventure together is just starting! Forever." There is already an ending where Chloe is not with Max, she is dead and Max needs to live with that, now even in the other ending there are people who want them to no longer be in each other's lives?! I find it quite discouraging. But I understand what you said, it shouldn't be something cheap. I'm sorry for the outburst. I liked your channel, your videos and theories
I agree that it can still have depth if Max and Chloe are still together. And in the bae ending of life is strange Max and Chloe can end the game as a couple if that's how you see them, that's what the developers of the first game said . And I get it being hard to have Chloe in person in the game,. But Max can talk about her and say their doing long distance.. And the life is strange franchise has always been good at writing in game texts and the journals and they could showcase Max and Chloe's relationship through those. And they could have a in depth complex relationship through that. That's why I agree that you don't have to break them up for it to be a good story.
I think my biggest problem about the conversations about this game online is how much people are jumping to conclusions based very little information. We simply do not know what they are going to do with this game yet in relation to Max's journey, Chloe's involvement or how the endings play into it, but a lot of people act like we do and judge the game based on that. Of course everyone can decide for themselves if they want to buy the game or not and I understand that there are a lot of feelings involved but still, the reaction some parts of the fandom has had has been kind of baffling to me. I look forward to seeing how they handle the characters and story in this game. Maybe I'll love it and maybe I won't but I wanna find that out for myself when I play the game. Couldn't agree more. It's fun to theorize, but you have to do it with an open mind and not get stuck on any 1 thing! That's honestly the full reason I didn't keep my entire theory in this video. I think it's too easy to get attached and I didn't want this new idea or extensions of existing ideas out there.
I’m thrown off by Max having a pic of Chloe with blue hair, since LiS2 we can see a picture of them together after Arcadia Bay and Chloe has green hair. Yeah she could have gone back to blue, multiple times even, but it just feels like D9 is going to miss a lot of details to be making a sequel.
They know what they're doing. I'm pretty sure we might have a presence of Chloe again. Also, it's interesting to analyze that Max is acting more like Chloe, yk traumatized. She probably understands much more about how Chloe felt for being alone, now Max is alone and heavily traumatized.
This is irrelevant but a lot of people are upset from what I've seen that the game is just a repeat of the first one. How do you feel about that? That Max didn't learn her lesson with Chloe or the game is just repeating itself and can't make a new concept? 🤔
I think this is complex too. Overall, I'm hopeful for the best. I think Square Enix assumes that LIS2 didn't do as well commercially for specific reasons and since then, they've tried to model the same structure as the first game. 1 Female protaganist, uncovering a mystery, that has supernatural powers and finds love along the way. Before the Storm and True Colors also followed this format, so I don't think Double Exposure is a repeat.. I think they all are! To me the original LIS is so much more than that and LIS2 keeps the same overall original vision (although very different in structure & themes). I still love playing themall, but I do hope DE up levels a bit to differentiate it more.
Similar to Batman Arkham Knight’s Joker returning due to Batman’s hallucinations, Chloe could come back in a similar manner. This is if she is dead. I can also see something crazy happening in the story where Chloe somehow replaces Safi and interacts with Max in one of the chapters.
I hope there isn't much Chloe in the new game. It would be too much of a burden, I want to see a new story and new characters and not fan service for a character who already had 2 games.
I'm kind of conflicted about how they handle Max and Chloe's relationship in a Bae over Bay ending. On the one hand, them breaking up or taking a relationship break due to the shared trauma is understandable and realistic. On the other hand, going with this would feel like invalidating the comic run that explored the ending where we save Chloe, and had the two go through an arc of conflict and separation and finally reuniting to be stronger for it. I find the comics to be really great and would love to see cameos of characters like Pixie and Tristan, but Double Exposure going with a break-up feels like either a) ignoring spin-off media and brushing someone's hard work for SE and LiS under the rug, or b) taking that story into account and then have that character development take a big 10 steps back. Or maybe I'm huffing copium and just really don't want to have one of my fave ships be canonically broken up in the future, even 10 years later.
First, I want to thank Tina for making this video, ESPECIALLY the part about the dialogue choices with Safi. It makes sense that Max avoids discussing intimate details of her past before Caledon with someone she's just getting to know. Thanks for pointing that out. Regarding Chloe's role in the game, I have a theory about YOUR theory. As a beginner game designer, I believe it's impossible to have two different storylines, one with Chloe and one without, because that would mean creating two different games. People who chose Bay>Bae don't necessarily hate Chloe, and Max is deeply devastated by either of those choices.so with all that said here's how i think they're going about this: Chloe won't appear in the first two episodes. This allows us to get to know the new characters, establish new relationships, and understand the new Max better. The 2 timelines will reflect the two endings of the first game, and your conversation with Safi will determine your main timeline. Chloe will physically return in episode 3 or 4 and is gonna stay and she will have a major role in the plot. In the Bae> Bay ending, Chloe's absence can be explained in two ways: 1. They are spending some time apart, which doesn't mean they've broken up (aligning with Tina's theory). 2. Chloe is busy with her own life and career. She’s evolved over the past 10 years and likely she won't be slacker following max everywhere she goes. Chloe will return with a significant role in the game, with changes mainly in dialogues and minor outcomes, not creating two entirely different games.

For me, there's only one reason why Chloe and Max should stay together, and that's because they blew up an entire fucking city so they could be together. If Max really did choose Chloe over everything and everyone she's ever known, then why would they split up? I def agree with your idea at the end, about the growth between Max and Chloe away from each other. I think if they do it right, they can make the bond between the two so much stronger! (Also, honestly, I can see polyamory being an option with Max's other love interests tbh) If they do the "drifted apart" thing, I want it to run deep, I want it to be more than that, I want to know the why's the hows...And I think even if they did, if Chloe is alive then I think they'd still talk, and that's important to them. Chloe needs to heal from so much especially! Hell, even if Chloe shows up just halfway to help or something. Or maybe she visits sometimes, and something is rekindled *after* we learn (and watched) how they grow when apart. I think that's really important and would give some more power! Something like "we haven't talked on the phone in months but I'm calling you in my time of need because you'd understand" would be REALLY emotional if done right. I just really hope Chloe isn't written out and if she's alive she's like...at least there via text, at the VERY least. I can see them mutually agreeing to go separate ways for a while to heal and get some fresh air, but I want to know about it. I don't want a case of " ah we drifted apart we haven't talked in years" because from a meta standpoint, it goes against a lot of the original, their attachments to each other. I also think it's really important from a sapphic character standpoint! We need that delicious complexity. I agree with your point but I also think realism shouldn't be the end-all-be-all here, just because like... their relationship before wasn't realistic at all in the first place, and that was a key point about it. Max broke time and if you chose the bay ending she let a town be destroyed for Chloe, despite only being back with her for only a week. I think there's a lot of ways they can handle this depth though - a good example is actually the comics, where (spoilers) Chloe and Max are together, but things keep messing up in her timeline so she chooses to leave to a different timeline, and for 5+ years she lives with Chloe who is dating an alive Rachel Amber. Max is still pining, but she spends a lot of time with a very different person and a stranger, until she's learned and grown so much she eventually finds her way back to her Chloe - but not without facing her literal trauma, every change she made manifesting in a new tornado itself. That was a really fun way to explore them, and it's def VERY different! But there are thousands of angles to approach this all from, which is the fun part! I admit I'm biased though, I'm super attached to them being together because I was a sad 15 year old when the first game came out. This kinda game does that to you, lol. Overall I agree with your thoughts and I think it's a reasonable take tbh. I think people are just majorly skeptical because well... AS much as I love the original, it had a habit of making people mad as episodes came out like, frequently xD I feel like a lot of people forget how angry the original game made people!
I think depending on what you chose in the previous game is your main reality. Whether that be you saved Max or Arcadia Bay. The reality you travel to is the reality of your opposite choice.
Maybe the „we were..“ thing is for the bay timeline, if my Game has a huge Community i would hold the character as a surprise and dont tease her in the reveal Trailer, for the shocking Moment, or this Clip is maybe from the timeline where safi is alive After her death so, Chloes death then if you choosed bae and that Opposite also. As said your choice is in the alternative universe the other choice
I'm still listening your video so don't blast me if u already said that 😂😂 but... "double exposure", two different timelines... two... like, you know, two different endings... that might be probably the best solution to merge properly the two completely different endings of the first game. She actually created two different timelines with her power. So what I'm trying to say is that probably the game will ask us "what did you decided to do in your Life is strange 1 run? Did u destroyed Arcadaia Bay or not?" and consequently we will live that timeline, and the opposite one will be the alternative timeline. In one of them probably Cloe just left us alone when we joined the new college and in the other one is simply dead.
The "both endings will be options" is a copout imo. It would have been far more interesting to pick one, and explore how in the other timeline the other came true. Then Max sees the long term consequences of both, and maybe tries to join them together somehow. She's trying to save Safi, and maybe she would try to save Chloe too. Just having it down to a choice to change dialogue will feel so underwhelming to the gravity of the events.
Of course Chloe will come back, they are just not putting her on trailers, because let's agree Chloe is most popular character from LiS along with Max (Or at least Arcadia Bay games) So yeah... they are building up hype and keeping her away from fans

I agree with you, time apart is not a bad way to explain Chloe's absence I'll be happy as long as it didn't end badly between them, if they drifted I'd want it to be mutual. (but that's just me, other's might have different feelings) if that's how the devs explain why Chloe is MIA (in the case of her being alive) as long as it was an amicable "split" I'll be ok with that lol. But I'd like to see Chloe in game even if her and Max are not together, even just a small cameo (but more than a photo) it would make me squal like a fan girl! lol I think I'll be happy just to know that the two of them kept in touch (if the player kept Chloe alive), just cause I'd hate for Chloe and/or Max to have ghosted eachother (because we all know what that did to Chloe). Regardless of what the devs have created I will be playing this game cause I love the Life is Strange franchise and LiS 1 is always there to play again for those of us who miss Chloe and Max together! I dont think they would've green lit this game if they couldn't come up with a way to make Chloe work. Their solution? I think they dedicated a chapter where Max enlist Chloe's help. If she's alive, you go to see her in person. If she's dead? You use your alternate timeline powers to visit a version of Chloe or rewind briefly to LIS 1 Chloe. The choice of if they were a couple or not will be asked in dialogue choices early on.
I'm cautiously optimistic about Double Exposure, even though I can't deny that I have my worries about how Max's and Chloe's story will be handled in this sequel, especially the way that Max in particular has changed and grown since the events of the first game, no matter which ending was chosen - either way, she's bound to experience a not insignificant amount of trauma and guilt, and I hope that the sequel will address this facet of her character but also, at the same time, be able to show if and how she’s been able to overcome at least some of that trauma and guilt, and present her as a complex and multi-faceted character. I adore Max and Chloe together, but I was always particularly fond of Max because she was someone I could relate to so easily when I first played LiS 8 years ago, and having replayed it again just a little while ago, I still feel very attached to both her and Chloe. I also think that Chloe is absolutely going to show up in Double Exposure one way or another - my main hope right now is that it’ll be accomplished in a way that is satisfying for both Bay/Bae players. We obviously don’t have a ton of information to go on at this point in time, and I think some of the conclusions drawn by a few people in the fandom are too premature, in my opinion at least. We’ll see in October, I guess. Fingers crossed!

A cameo seems the most likely, similar to David in Life is Strange 2, but I bet not everyone is going to be satisfied with that XD Btw, other people have pointed out that the photo Max picks up is not the same photo that shows Chloe, so maybe Bayers will get the Chloe photo (which would explain why it shows a young, blue-haired Chloe) and Baers will get a more updated one (maybe even with green hair). Since Deck Nine basically already made two different games by creating the two timelines, I think they _could_ separate them Bay/Bae style, so Chloe will be featured no matter what choice you picked … but her relationship with Max (and the possible existence of an “Alternate Max”) could make things too difficult, both for the story and the programming :-/ I REALLY love your theory about Max and Chloe going on a journey to find themselves separately from each other! That would not only explain why Chloe isn’t there, but also why other love interests are. Plus, it opens up the possibility of a happy reunion :) Because I’m not sure how I feel about them drifting apart. I mean, I chose the Bay on my first playthrough, but I would still be deeply upset if Max and Chloe were permanently separated. I am fine with them being temporarily/determinantly separated, but it would be a slap in the face for Baers if Deck Nine decided to break them apart. Just like it would feel like a slap in the face for Bayers if the storm suddenly returned. As much as I actually like realistic endings for games, I think Pricefield fans deserve a happy one :)

Bay/Bae theory is good, but I also think it could just be an edit for the promo and she picks up the other photo at a different time and they just cut those together. Who knows! Have you read the comic that takes place on the Chloe alive timeline. Its so good but I'm worried that they wont continue any of that story into the Chloe alive version of this game.

I *personally* can't imagine Chloe or Max separating from each other's side for very long at all. I don't think you are wrong for thinking its too much work for Deck Nine to develop more than a mostly linear/singular path, but narratively speaking, I genuinely cannot see Max and Chloe drifting apart as either friends OR partners. SO many times through the first game, Max constantly says she will never leave Chloe's side. Obviously like if you choose sacrifice Chloe, yes I guess technically she is "leaving" her side (but her memory lives on with Max) BUT if you choose sacrifice bay, I truly believe Max would honor those words with the exception that perhaps Max is temporarily working for this school and Chloe will join up with her later. I will that kind of scenario is probably my wishful thinking. In the end, my nervous for this game so I am trying to not get my hopes up too much but admittly it is so hard to not think about this game after 9 years of adoring this series LMAO.

So i dont think she will return in double exposure, maybe rhianna devries could voice chloe if she ever appears in the new game. Kinda unrelated to the video, but I would love to see Tina play Until Dawn. Its a great choice-based game with multiple endings and ways things can go. And it has a butterfly effect theme just like Life Is Strange.
First of all Tina, you said "for Chloe", don't deny it, we all heard it, too late now. 😜 Where to start? So much... I definitely think if she's alive, you'll have text messages on Max's phone from Chloe, the journal entries will also be slightly different for obvious reasons. Regarding the two options we see when Safi questions Max about Chloe, the issue I have is neither is 100% accurate. In my head, Max and Chloe were more than just friends, but saying childhood sweethearts isn't accurate either because for the time that implies, Max & Chloe were just becoming teenagers and discovering feelings, and then Max moved. I'm sure Max's responses to the question will be more detailed and nuanced anyway, but I just needed to pint it out. Now, how will Chloe appear? Like I said, journal entries and text messages. The thing is, this is a Max game, any Chloe appearance will likely be minimal. I honestly think we won't see Chloe until the end cut scene, if we do at all. I also think it's possible she won't physically appear at all and Max will get a call from Chloe at the end of the game arranging to meet up. I hope I'm wrong, it would feel cheap and people would not be happy. But it would kind of go along with what you were saying about them being still in each other's lives and not being a couple. I don't like the idea personally - I do think Pricefiald should be a thing - but I agree it's idealistic and this is Life Is Strange, which has always been anything but. Then again, it could be that they are a couple and Chloe is just elsewhere during the events of the game and they will be together again soon. During the livestream, the developers did describe the game as a race against time, which implies it takes place over a relatively short period - my guess is 1 to 2 weeks. I CAN'T WAIT FOR THIS GAME!

Here’s a crazy theory. What if depending on your final choice from the first game, in each episode we get a flashback which show us moments of Max’s life set after the first game?
For example:
Sacrifice Chloe: Set after Chloe’s funeral, Max visit’s Chloe’s house and talks with Joyce and David. Joyce will give Max some of Chloe’s belongings.
Sacrifice Arcadia Bay: Max and Chloe are staying at a motel whilst travelling to Seattle. They will comfort each other with the aftermath over what they have been through.
If chloe and max aren't friends or an item in the Bae ending I'll be upset. Not read the comics, so im not sure if I'm missing anything important, but LIS2 specifically goes out of it's way to tell us they're happy
In an interview the creators mentioned that players can decide whether Chloe is alive and if Max romanced her in the first game. Depending on these choices, the gameplay changes to adapt to that ending. I think this could mean that Chloe can have a decent role in the story, even though you mentioned it might be too complicated for the creators to code. It reminds me of Until Dawn where many characters can die at many points in the story, and if they survive (depending on your gameplay), they remain significant to the story. If you keep them alive, you experience additional character interactions and scenes. I feel like it could apply to this game; if you choose to save Chloe, you get scenes with her that don't directly affect the ending, and if you didn’t choose to save her then you don’t, it won’t directly change the story so it might not be too difficult.
I think it should not matter what you did in LiS 1.. the game should play the same... Yes references of chloe is fine.. but the game should never be different
I love your take on this. I've been reading reddit a lot and anything other than happy ever after with no trauma gets downvoted to oblivion so to see a mature opinion on this is very refreshing.
Considering there's alternative universes, my version will always be with Chloe and the continuation of that story in the comics.

- As much as it'd be cute to have a Chloe-Max perfect ending, I'm actually more intrigued by the mystery of how much she will be part of it. I appreciated how the storm/Chloe's death was dealt with in Steph's story while giving her the space for her own main story.
- I would actually respect a 'we mean a lot to each other but have moved on' story between Max & Chloe. It feels more real to life. A lot happens in 10 years and that includes your social circle (even if you have been friends since childhood!). Especially after experiencing what has likely become C-PTSD.

There was a book released last year I think it was... called Steph's Story... which chronicles the time from Steph meeting Izzie, forming the band, and then ends with her getting an apartment in Haven Springs.. which means it basically covers a year or so prior to Wavelengths...
Anyway... in the foreward the author admits she went with saving Chloe, and Steph actually ran into Chloe and ' her girlfriend Max ' and has a brief thought process about Max...
I sincerely hope in the new game Chloe is still alive somewhere...

I couldn't agree more with what you said at the end. I personally enjoy both endings and have done both many times, and I'm definitely going to be playing Double Exposure at least twice (probably more, if we're being real) to see how each specific ending impacts Max and the story. I have always been the type of person to love a good story more than a happy ending, and that's part of why I'm (often alone) in my fascination with the Sacrifice Chloe ending for the OG LIS. The idea of Max being the only person with the memories of falling in love with Chloe--as far as anyone is concerned in that timeline, Max and Chloe never reunited, never fell in love, and Chloe died alone in that bathroom never seeing Max again.
I know a lot of people take issue with Deck Nines writing, which is fair even if I don't agree, but I personally adore their character focused stories rather than big picture plots. True Colours is very close to beating the original for me for that reason---sure, Alex's power is hardly as bombastic as Max and Daniel's powers, but it's a deep insight into Alex as a person. Her story, I would argue, has the most complex choices where there is simply no correct answer. Plus, the suddenness of Gabe's death, the themes of grief, they really mean a lot to me and I love how it was written by Deck Nine. The plot of Gabe's death and solving it takes a backseat, it's the vehicle for Alex's emotional journey into growing into her own, and I'm hoping we will get a similar approach this time around for Double Exposure.
Sure, we're solving a supernatural mystery, but I think the main themes of this game will be loss and grief regardless of what you chose. Either way Max will feel guilty, whether that be for 'letting' Chloe die, or sacrificing everyone in Arcadia for her closest person. Her being so closed off is interesting, and I'm really excited to see her with new characters and be able to have own story away from Chloe (for the most part) much like how we got a real character study into Chloe in Before The Storm.
I also think a lot of people forget that simply giving the fans the perfect happy ending with Chloe and Max is still a dishonest and cash grabbing approach. If they forced you into romancing Chloe and saving her, then the impact of the original becomes meaningless. One of my favourite explorations of Max in the Sacrifice Chloe timeline is gone. That's just as shitty as it would be to completely cut Chloe out. Besides, I doubt Deck Nine would be so open about Chloe if she had zero impact.
To me, I'm confident (whether I enjoy the game or not, and whether it is 'objectively good' or not) that this isn't a cash grab on Deck Nine's part. Square Enix is another story, but I won't get into that lol. If Deck Nine wanted to cash in on the Pricefield shippers and make a load of money, they'd give us Max and Chloe no doubt, they wouldn't tease, they wouldn't have conflict. The fact they're willing to risk 'upsetting' fans and refusing fan service gives me confidence they're doing something that will serve the story they want to tell, that will serve Max's development as a character, and that this REALLY is the story they truly want to tell. Watching the interviews with the two directors, you can see and hear their passion. They care about this game and this story, and they make it clear they want to respect the original and Don't Nod as they continue Max's story. I think regardless of how good the game ends up being, that alone is nice to see. Plus, I doubt Hannah Telle would return if they completely butchered Max's story, considering how deeply she cares for this character.
In the end, I don't have many theories myself about how Chloe will return. I just have a feeling she will be a lingering presence over the story, that is clear by how Max wants to keep her Chloe Price entangled past private. I'm excited to see what they do with this game, and it's nice to see someone who not only (from what I can tell) also cares about this story being realistic rather than fantasy whilst also maintaining the same love I have for both Max and Chloe. The fact you shared your thoughts despite knowing it might be unpopular with fans is commendable, and I love your maturity when approaching this. Of course, Max and Chloe's relationship will be different from when they were 18, for better or for worse. Of course Max won't always say what she means---those more subtle writing choices is what I enjoy from Deck Nine.

I want the next game to feel REAL and adult and complex and to dive into Max’s traumas from her past (especially since there’s been possible leaks of the Dark Room pictures being in this game) and not just be some fanservice-y game where Max and Chloe are dating and nothing ever goes wrong, you know? I’m trying not to get my hopes up because we’re speaking about Decknine and SE here but I really hope this game doesn’t just go the fanservice route. 😭
ALSO I think I know what you might have been saying in the censored part so feel free to delete my comment if I get too close but MY prediction is that Chloe is alive in the timeline where Safi is dead and the conversation we see where you choose between Pricefield being “just friends” or “high-school sweethearts” is from the “Safi is alive” timeline where Chloe is dead and this conversation comes after Max discovers that Chloe is dead in this timeline. I’m not sure how the romance with Amanda or possibly even Safi would fit in here but this is just my theory. Also going off what you were saying with the ending choice, my first thought was having to choose between the “Safi alive but Chloe dead timeline” or the “Chloe alive but Safi dead timeline” but that would mean this choice would have to get rid of Max’s shifting power to make the choices actually be final. I also feel like this ending would be too easy of a choice and most people would immediately choose Chloe to be alive, and it could be too similar of an ending to the first game. But that’s just a theory, a LIFE IS STRANGE THEORY!!

I wonder if Chloe and Max finally reached a breaking point after a few years from the first game. If the player chooses to save Chloe in the first game, maybe the guilt and weight of that decision would weigh heavily on both Max and Chloe. In almost every game after the first Life is Strange game at the beginning they always ask what your decision was from the very first game, that choice still effects the universe of these games in every installment. There was almost always some form of mention or character you could come upon in the subsequent games. In the scene with Max holding Chloe's picture in the trailer, she looks either sad or disgruntled, I did not pick up any loving vibes, just exhasberation.
I have BIG THEORY!
I feel sooo sure the alt reality Max shifts into will be the reality of the choice she didn't make!! So Bay Max is going to shift into a reality where Chloe is alive - and she's going to discover as soon as she walks into her home they have a life together, a life she could have had, but cannot have, because it's another Max's life!
And Bae Max will shift into a reality where Chloe is dead and will discover how lonely she is without her Chloe - but how so many people who died in the storm are now alive.
They said the endings connect... this feels like the way! And this could have Chloe appear on the Bay Path... imagine Bay Max meeting an alive Chloe.... it would be like the William moment all over again, but even more emotional for Max! Chloe may be with Max presently OR she is visiting David and so on Bae path and Bay's alternate world Max will meet with her at some point.
I think Chloe 2 with the name has something to do with this theory!!! Also this is how they avoid making TWO different games ;) Because Max and the player will not only be confronting their past and past choice, but the alt reality will take us into the world of the choice we DIDN'T make, forcing us to have face our choice, question if we made the right choice... it just makes sense to me! How do you do a game where there are two endings? You make the alt reality the OTHER ending!! And then Max's texts/journals for example will just be FLIPPED!

I will say this - I believe Max and Chloe are soul mates, but I do think Bay path Max, who has a romance, will have to find closure with her choice. She cannot have the life of the other choice, because it belongs to another Max, and Chloe is in love with another Max. So I think she will have to find closure. She can't have Chloe in the choice where she let her die... but maybe she can find peace knowing there are worlds out there where they do...

I agree with you 100%. What Max and chloe had was amazing, but far from perfect, they only had a week to get to know each other again. After 5 years apart, they had both changed, especially chloe. Maybe Max realized that they were too different and decided to go separate ways

i cannot agree about that last part, about max and chloe's relationship. making them break up slash fall apart would completely alienate those who chose to both save and romance chloe. i know that photo in lis2 is old, but this is the last thing we had of max and chloe up until DE and nothing indicates that they would NOT stick together. choosing chloe is already a hard choice in itself, because it's one person over a whole town, so in the end if you can't even have her, what's the point? i'm not saying it won't happen, but i'd be extremely disappointed in D9 if it does. like, congrats, you saved the girl, but you can't have her though.
i think personally that the choices you make during the conversation with safi will determine the romance availability (if you tell safi max is dating chloe, amanda is locked out). and that those choices (we WERE just friends / childhood sweethearts) presented are worded this way because she previously asked something related to arcadia bay. in this path, i believe this is in past tense *because* you chose the bay option previously. so in my mind, the convo will go 1- bay/bae? and then 2- romanced chloe or not?

Max's story would feel hollow if there was no Chloe in it. One of the reason Life is Strange 1 was so good is because of the dynamic between these 2. And the whole story revolves around them and over come shyness and indecisive, which is the core character of Max, and Chloe is price for that. Without Chloe, it seems incomplete, at least that how I feel.
I sacrificed Arcadia bay at first but sacrificing Chloe seems like the better ending tbh.
this is probably just me clowning, but another thing i was reminded of while watching this was how, when the trailer for ep 4 of the original game came out, it had a lot of shots from the ep but they removed chloe from them. like max and chloe would both be in a shot in the game, but chloe was removed from that same shot for the trailer (to avoid the spoilers of which timeline max was in). SO, again, i’m probably clowning here, what if they are doing something like that here 👀
I think it would be interesting if the two dimensions max can travel through its a dimension where she choose to save Chloe and another where she saves the city. So both ending would be present and we could enjoy time with Chloe. But I know its not going to be that way

In my humble opinion, I believe they will ask what choices you made in the first Life is Strange to tailor the story to those choices, So, if you romanced Chloe and saved her shes still around and will pop up in this story, If you romanced and sacrificed her Max will look longingly at Chloe's photo and maybe have inner turmoil romancing another character in this story, and perhaps if you didn't romance Chloe (why wouldn't you?) then maybe she visits Max at college/Max reminisces how good of friends they were back in the day
That's what I was thinking. Because not everyone (like myself) saved chloe. I couldn't do that to a town and personally it's what chloe wanted herself in the end.
I’m assuming that Chloe will be in double exposure, and that the game will be centered around her. I don’t want to give any spoilers away, but I will say that I believe that double exposure is going to follow the consequences of both endings from the first life is strange game, which is why there will be dual timelines in that game.

It's "Chios" not "Chloe" and actually makes sense... If you look at the big picture, not just this photo, you'll see a wall with photos and notes about locations...
You can see "Milagros" which is a city in the Philippines. You can also see a photo of "Merida, Mexico" which is the capital of Yucatán state in Mexico. This photo makes sense it is "Chios" which is an island in Greece and we talking about locations.
The second word looks like "Ooreooke" or "Oorsooke".
Oorsooke looks like a native american word and could just be the dog's name, what doesn't make a lot of sense is that a dog in Greece has a native American word as his name (?)
And if you put "Ooreooke" on Google it's detected as a word of some African language and it means "ears/eyes" and makes more sense than the other word.
I'm fine with Chloe not being around. She was problematic not just in her as a person but her very existence just seemed to unravel the world. I feel like that's going to happen again with this new girl. The world is going to unravel. However there is a timeline where she is alive so perhaps the consequences won't be so devastating. I just watched another TH-camr suggest that moving through timelines is her true power, not actually rewinding in the sense we assumed so that's something to consider as well. I'm interested to know what's going to happen regardless of how this plays out. Personally I think Chloe's role and purpose in Max's life has already been fulfilled... Kinda like mmm.... Cautionary tale or a trial run maybe. Like a pretest before the real exam is to begin. But that's just how it feels to me.
i feel like however they bring chloe in, it can’t be integral to the actual plot/mystery since she’d be dead for other players, so i think they could treat it like they did kate after ep 2 of the original game, where she can have little texts and mentions and even a not-plot-driving scene where she shows up

Now it's been a little bit since I played through the ending of the first game, but if you choose the bay choice, don't you just rewind right back to the start of the game? In this version of events, Max leaves for Seattle, and never meets Chloe again after that. Chloe is shot dead by Nathan in the bathroom.
Max has the memories of the first game, but on that she's alone. From everybody else's perspective, she and Chloe did not know each other at the time. They just used to be best friends as kids. I for sure don't keep photos of the best friends I had as a kid in my wallet, especially pictures from when they were 18 and we hadn't spoken for years.
This is one way of saying I don't understand the timeline if you choose to let Chloe die, but am I just misremembering the ending of the first game or missing some other detail?
The Picture is maybe one Max kept while the journey with chloe, she keeps the memorys she made with chloe After her death and Stick to it

Memories or dreams or something like that could be. That photo thing I complitely missed, Photo power making a return in some form would make sense becouse this new power seems to be direct evolution of it. With this games premise just abaut anything is possible, but in codingwise I'd say Chloe playing bigger role is complitely impossible

I don't understand why there can't be depth in an ending if they stay together. It's up to Deck Nine to be able to write something really good.
Because Michel Koch gives this to the fans at the end of the first game when you save Chloe, there's a tweet from him about it: "but they leave together, alive. They have plenty of time, their adventure together is just starting! Forever."
There is already an ending where Chloe is not with Max, she is dead and Max needs to live with that, now even in the other ending there are people who want them to no longer be in each other's lives?! I find it quite discouraging.

I agree that it can still have depth if Max and Chloe are still together. And in the bae ending of life is strange Max and Chloe can end the game as a couple if that's how you see them, that's what the developers of the first game said . And I get it being hard to have Chloe in person in the game,. But Max can talk about her and say their doing long distance.. And the life is strange franchise has always been good at writing in game texts and the journals and they could showcase Max and Chloe's relationship through those. And they could have a in depth complex relationship through that. That's why I agree that you don't have to break them up for it to be a good story.

I think my biggest problem about the conversations about this game online is how much people are jumping to conclusions based very little information. We simply do not know what they are going to do with this game yet in relation to Max's journey, Chloe's involvement or how the endings play into it, but a lot of people act like we do and judge the game based on that. Of course everyone can decide for themselves if they want to buy the game or not and I understand that there are a lot of feelings involved but still, the reaction some parts of the fandom has had has been kind of baffling to me.
I look forward to seeing how they handle the characters and story in this game. Maybe I'll love it and maybe I won't but I wanna find that out for myself when I play the game.

Couldn't agree more. It's fun to theorize, but you have to do it with an open mind and not get stuck on any 1 thing! That's honestly the full reason I didn't keep my entire theory in this video. I think it's too easy to get attached and I didn't want this new idea or extensions of existing ideas out there.

Yeah she could have gone back to blue, multiple times even, but it just feels like D9 is going to miss a lot of details to be making a sequel.

I think this is complex too. Overall, I'm hopeful for the best. I think Square Enix assumes that LIS2 didn't do as well commercially for specific reasons and since then, they've tried to model the same structure as the first game. 1 Female protaganist, uncovering a mystery, that has supernatural powers and finds love along the way. Before the Storm and True Colors also followed this format, so I don't think Double Exposure is a repeat.. I think they all are! To me the original LIS is so much more than that and LIS2 keeps the same overall original vision (although very different in structure & themes). I still love playing themall, but I do hope DE up levels a bit to differentiate it more.
Similar to Batman Arkham Knight’s Joker returning due to Batman’s hallucinations, Chloe could come back in a similar manner. This is if she is dead. I can also see something crazy happening in the story where Chloe somehow replaces Safi and interacts with Max in one of the chapters.
The #2 could mean it’s the second shot, you know how a photographer might take multiple pictures of a similar but slightly different shot?
I hope there isn't much Chloe in the new game. It would be too much of a burden, I want to see a new story and new characters and not fan service for a character who already had 2 games.

I'm kind of conflicted about how they handle Max and Chloe's relationship in a Bae over Bay ending. On the one hand, them breaking up or taking a relationship break due to the shared trauma is understandable and realistic.
On the other hand, going with this would feel like invalidating the comic run that explored the ending where we save Chloe, and had the two go through an arc of conflict and separation and finally reuniting to be stronger for it. I find the comics to be really great and would love to see cameos of characters like Pixie and Tristan, but Double Exposure going with a break-up feels like either a) ignoring spin-off media and brushing someone's hard work for SE and LiS under the rug, or b) taking that story into account and then have that character development take a big 10 steps back.
Or maybe I'm huffing copium and just really don't want to have one of my fave ships be canonically broken up in the future, even 10 years later.
First, I want to thank Tina for making this video, ESPECIALLY the part about the dialogue choices with Safi. It makes sense that Max avoids discussing intimate details of her past before Caledon with someone she's just getting to know. Thanks for pointing that out. Regarding Chloe's role in the game, I have a theory about YOUR theory. As a beginner game designer, I believe it's impossible to have two different storylines, one with Chloe and one without, because that would mean creating two different games. This however doesn't mean Chloe will be reduced to a background character, visible only via texts or flashbacks. Instead, Chloe will likely join the main plot NO MATTER which ending is chosen.
Decknine made it clear that the game is about closure for both players and Max. They said they want to show the connection between the two endings, which is why there are two timelines. I believe Chloe will be alive in at least one timeline and have a major role. decknine itself established The line "We are Max and Chloe. We're always together, even when we're not".
I believe Decknine chose the two timelines to ensure Chloe has a major role regardless of the chosen ending. People who chose Bay>Bae don't necessarily hate Chloe, and Max is deeply devastated by either of those choices.so with all that said here's how i think they're going about this:
Chloe won't appear in the first two episodes. This allows us to get to know the new characters, establish new relationships, and understand the new Max better. The 2 timelines will reflect the two endings of the first game, and your conversation with Safi will determine your main timeline. Chloe will physically return in episode 3 or 4 and is gonna stay and she will have a major role in the plot. In the Bae> Bay ending, Chloe's absence can be explained in two ways:
1. They are spending some time apart, which doesn't mean they've broken up (aligning with Tina's theory).
2. Chloe is busy with her own life and career. She’s evolved over the past 10 years and likely she won't be slacker following max everywhere she goes.
Chloe will return with a significant role in the game, with changes mainly in dialogues and minor outcomes, not creating two entirely different games.

and btw I don't feel like Max and Chloe are soulmates at all, I find them opposites in many ways, but not really complementary, there are many moments where Chloe was a terrible friend to Max, and others where Max stopped Chloe from doing what she wanted because she didn't think the same way. For me, there's only one reason why Chloe and Max should stay together, and that's because they blew up an entire fucking city so they could be together. If Max really did choose Chloe over everything and everyone she's ever known, then why would they split up?

I def agree with your idea at the end, about the growth between Max and Chloe away from each other. I think if they do it right, they can make the bond between the two so much stronger! (Also, honestly, I can see polyamory being an option with Max's other love interests tbh)
If they do the "drifted apart" thing, I want it to run deep, I want it to be more than that, I want to know the why's the hows...And I think even if they did, if Chloe is alive then I think they'd still talk, and that's important to them. Chloe needs to heal from so much especially!
Hell, even if Chloe shows up just halfway to help or something. Or maybe she visits sometimes, and something is rekindled *after* we learn (and watched) how they grow when apart. I think that's really important and would give some more power! Something like "we haven't talked on the phone in months but I'm calling you in my time of need because you'd understand" would be REALLY emotional if done right.
I just really hope Chloe isn't written out and if she's alive she's like...at least there via text, at the VERY least. I can see them mutually agreeing to go separate ways for a while to heal and get some fresh air, but I want to know about it. I don't want a case of " ah we drifted apart we haven't talked in years" because from a meta standpoint, it goes against a lot of the original, their attachments to each other. I also think it's really important from a sapphic character standpoint! We need that delicious complexity. I agree with your point but I also think realism shouldn't be the end-all-be-all here, just because like... their relationship before wasn't realistic at all in the first place, and that was a key point about it. Max broke time and if you chose the bay ending she let a town be destroyed for Chloe, despite only being back with her for only a week. I think there's a lot of ways they can handle this depth though - a good example is actually the comics, where (spoilers) Chloe and Max are together, but things keep messing up in her timeline so she chooses to leave to a different timeline, and for 5+ years she lives with Chloe who is dating an alive Rachel Amber. Max is still pining, but she spends a lot of time with a very different person and a stranger, until she's learned and grown so much she eventually finds her way back to her Chloe - but not without facing her literal trauma, every change she made manifesting in a new tornado itself. That was a really fun way to explore them, and it's def VERY different! But there are thousands of angles to approach this all from, which is the fun part!
I admit I'm biased though, I'm super attached to them being together because I was a sad 15 year old when the first game came out. This kinda game does that to you, lol. Overall I agree with your thoughts and I think it's a reasonable take tbh. I think people are just majorly skeptical because well... AS much as I love the original, it had a habit of making people mad as episodes came out like, frequently xD I feel like a lot of people forget how angry the original game made people!

I think depending on what you chose in the previous game is your main reality. Whether that be you saved Max or Arcadia Bay. The reality you travel to is the reality of your opposite choice.
Maybe the „we were..“ thing is for the bay timeline, if my Game has a huge Community i would hold the character as a surprise and dont tease her in the reveal Trailer, for the shocking Moment, or this Clip is maybe from the timeline where safi is alive After her death so, Chloes death then if you choosed bae and that Opposite also. As said your choice is in the alternative universe the other choice

"double exposure", two different timelines... two... like, you know, two different endings... that might be probably the best solution to merge properly the two completely different endings of the first game. She actually created two different timelines with her power. So what I'm trying to say is that probably the game will ask us "what did you decided to do in your Life is strange 1 run? Did u destroyed Arcadaia Bay or not?" and consequently we will live that timeline, and the opposite one will be the alternative timeline. In one of them probably Cloe just left us alone when we joined the new college and in the other one is simply dead.

The "both endings will be options" is a copout imo. It would have been far more interesting to pick one, and explore how in the other timeline the other came true. Just having it down to a choice to change dialogue will feel so underwhelming to the gravity of the events.

I agree with you, time apart is not a bad way to explain Chloe's absence I'll be happy as long as it didn't end badly between them, if they drifted I'd want it to be mutual. (but that's just me, other's might have different feelings) if that's how the devs explain why Chloe is MIA (in the case of her being alive) as long as it was an amicable "split" I'll be ok with that lol. But I'd like to see Chloe in game even if her and Max are not together, even just a small cameo (but more than a photo) it would make me squal like a fan girl! lol I think I'll be happy just to know that the two of them kept in touch (if the player kept Chloe alive), just cause I'd hate for Chloe and/or Max to have ghosted eachother (because we all know what that did to Chloe). Regardless of what the devs have created I will be playing this game cause I love the Life is Strange franchise and LiS 1 is always there to play again for those of us who miss Chloe and Max together! I'm so happy that Hannah Telle is back as Max! I will miss Ashly Burch if she doesn't voice Chloe (assuming Chloe is even in it as a voiced character), not that Rhianna DeVries isn't awesome (cause she is) but Ashly is Chloe to me! But I digress. No matter what: I cannot wait to play this game!

I dont think they would've green lit this game if they couldn't come up with a way to make Chloe work. Their solution? I think they dedicated a chapter where Max enlist Chloe's help. If she's alive, you go to see her in person. If she's dead? You use your alternate timeline powers to visit a version of Chloe or rewind briefly to LIS 1 Chloe.
The choice of if they were a couple or not will be asked in dialogue choices early on.
I'm cautiously optimistic about Double Exposure, even though I can't deny that I have my worries about how Max's and Chloe's story will be handled in this sequel, especially the way that Max in particular has changed and grown since the events of the first game, no matter which ending was chosen - either way, she's bound to experience a not insignificant amount of trauma and guilt, and I hope that the sequel will address this facet of her character but also, at the same time, be able to show if and how she’s been able to overcome at least some of that trauma and guilt, and present her as a complex and multi-faceted character. I adore Max and Chloe together, but I was always particularly fond of Max because she was someone I could relate to so easily when I first played LiS 8 years ago, and having replayed it again just a little while ago, I still feel very attached to both her and Chloe. I also think that Chloe is absolutely going to show up in Double Exposure one way or another - my main hope right now is that it’ll be accomplished in a way that is satisfying for both Bay/Bae players. We obviously don’t have a ton of information to go on at this point in time, and I think some of the conclusions drawn by a few people in the fandom are too premature, in my opinion at least. We’ll see in October, I guess. Fingers crossed!
I love everything you said here. Perfectly stated. Ya, I think the only way I'll truly be disappointed is if they don't portray Max as a "complex and multi-faceted character" and really, truly examine what trauma she's been through in a real and true way.

I definitely think Chloe will be back in some way - I’m just not sure how. A cameo seems the most likely, similar to David in Life is Strange 2, but I bet not everyone is going to be satisfied with that XD
Btw, other people have pointed out that the photo Max picks up is not the same photo that shows Chloe, so maybe Bayers will get the Chloe photo (which would explain why it shows a young, blue-haired Chloe) and Baers will get a more updated one (maybe even with green hair).
Since Deck Nine basically already made two different games by creating the two timelines, I think they _could_ separate them Bay/Bae style, so Chloe will be featured no matter what choice you picked … but her relationship with Max (and the possible existence of an “Alternate Max”) could make things too difficult, both for the story and the programming :-/
I REALLY love your theory about Max and Chloe going on a journey to find themselves separately from each other! That would not only explain why Chloe isn’t there, but also why other love interests are. Plus, it opens up the possibility of a happy reunion :)
Because I’m not sure how I feel about them drifting apart. I mean, I chose the Bay on my first playthrough, but I would still be deeply upset if Max and Chloe were permanently separated. I am fine with them being temporarily/determinantly separated, but it would be a slap in the face for Baers if Deck Nine decided to break them apart. Just like it would feel like a slap in the face for Bayers if the storm suddenly returned. As much as I actually like realistic endings for games, I think Pricefield fans deserve a happy one :)

Bay/Bae theory is good, but I also think it could just be an edit for the promo and she picks up the other photo at a different time and they just cut those together. Who knows! Have you read the comic that takes place on the Chloe alive timeline. Its so good but I'm worried that they wont continue any of that story into the Chloe alive version of this game.

I *personally* can't imagine Chloe or Max separating from each other's side for very long at all. I don't think you are wrong for thinking its too much work for Deck Nine to develop more than a mostly linear/singular path, but narratively speaking, I genuinely cannot see Max and Chloe drifting apart as either friends OR partners. SO many times through the first game, Max constantly says she will never leave Chloe's side. Obviously like if you choose sacrifice Chloe, yes I guess technically she is "leaving" her side (but her memory lives on with Max) BUT if you choose sacrifice bay, I truly believe Max would honor those words with the exception that perhaps Max is temporarily working for this school and Chloe will join up with her later. I will that kind of scenario is probably my wishful thinking. In the end, my nervous for this game so I am trying to not get my hopes up too much but admittly it is so hard to not think about this game after 9 years of adoring this series LMAO.

I've heard from a podcast where chloe's va (Ashly Burch) prefers the bay ending route. So i dont think she will return in double exposure, maybe rhianna devries could voice chloe if she ever appears in the new game. Where to start? So much... I definitely think if she's alive, you'll have text messages on Max's phone from Chloe, the journal entries will also be slightly different for obvious reasons.
Regarding the two options we see when Safi questions Max about Chloe, the issue I have is neither is 100% accurate. In my head, Max and Chloe were more than just friends, but saying childhood sweethearts isn't accurate either because for the time that implies, Max & Chloe were just becoming teenagers and discovering feelings, and then Max moved. I'm sure Max's responses to the question will be more detailed and nuanced anyway, but I just needed to pint it out.
Now, how will Chloe appear? Like I said, journal entries and text messages. The thing is, this is a Max game, any Chloe appearance will likely be minimal. I honestly think we won't see Chloe until the end cut scene, if we do at all. I also think it's possible she won't physically appear at all and Max will get a call from Chloe at the end of the game arranging to meet up. I hope I'm wrong, it would feel cheap and people would not be happy. But it would kind of go along with what you were saying about them being still in each other's lives and not being a couple. I don't like the idea personally - I do think Pricefiald should be a thing - but I agree it's idealistic and this is Life Is Strange, which has always been anything but. Then again, it could be that they are a couple and Chloe is just elsewhere during the events of the game and they will be together again soon. During the livestream, the developers did describe the game as a race against time, which implies it takes place over a relatively short period - my guess is 1 to 2 weeks.
