Good on Winston for insisting on rail capable ferries. This is a huge and long lasting, extremely poor decision by Nicola. Pure arrogance and inexperience will cost the taxpayer 3 billion + for a substandard service. When will Nicola be sacked or reassigned to a less demanding role, ignoring the seriousness of the ferrie debacle is unforgivable.

They are prepared to spend $3 billion+ on a 4 lane motorway to Whangarei, when Northland has a pop. of 200,000, and yet they won't provide a safe and reliable service to the South Island with a pop. 1,250,000 for the same money. The best we can hope for now is to get the same ferries Willis cancelled, delayed by a few years and at a much higher price.
