Starting out, you don't need a brick and mortar office. Carriers will appoint you, however, several carriers require Lexis Nexis. Lexis Nexis will not grant you access to their services without a private office. They might accept you if you are starting an agency from a single family home, but if you live in an apartment, they will reject your request.

Thank you for that! I’m actually in the middle of getting appointments and opening up my own office now that the insurance market seems to be stabilizing. Really loved that you answered my question thanks man!

I would love to hear more about ghost worker comp. I’m in WI and recently I am having new business requesting work comp because the contract they are trying to get requires.

I was thinking, if you get direct carrier appointments - you get more commission. However, they will put minimum premium and other requirements on you in order to keep the appointment. This can make agents feel pressured in placing business with that carrier instead of possibly what is best for the client. Wouldn't an aggragator be a good way around all of that?

@@stephaniet1162 this is a good and valuable point! Honestly we’ve never had an issue with meeting carrier requirements because if it’s a good appointment you will probably want to be writing it a lot anyway. The bad appointments just fizzle out because they’re typically not the right fit for your agency in the first place. I’d take the direct appointment over aggregator any day

The regulations hes talking about are for lead vendors. They arent allowed to sell leads to multiple people and now agents have to put their agent ID on all advertising.
