Space Mountain opened in 1977, invigorating a decade-old Tomorrowland as Disneyland's second roller coaster. The idea for Anaheim's ride originated in the mid 1960s, during Walt Disney's lifetime, as a way to energize the aging Tomorrowland. The project was shelved until the success of Space Mountain in Florida. After two years of construction, the $20 million complex opened May 27 including the roller coaster, 1,100-seat Space Stage, 670-seat Space Place (fast food restaurant) and Starcade.

I remember my first time going on this. It was Thanksgiving weekend 2005 and my first time to Disneyland-any theme park for that matter-and this was the last ride of the day and I did not know what to expect. All the other rides I kept on asking my family what type of ride it was and if i was going to be scary, but as I walked closer towards the dome with the large antenna reaching sky high, I kept my mouth shut and was ready for anything. I went on the seat and as the music started playing, I did not know what I got myself into. I was amazed when we got into the part with the space and when the air started blowing hard on my face, I fainted (internally, not literally). So let Space Mountain be my first sci-fi thrilling attraction, my favorite ride at Disneyland, and of course not to forget to mention, my favorite ride today. Thank you for giving me the best space simulation ever. LONG LIVE SPACE MOUNTAIN! (and 1000th comment :)

Went on this for the first time last year at grad night. Amazing ride, definitely recommend you get a fast pass though. Those lines are horrible.

this is my favorite ride and i cant help that everytime i see this video i get goose bumps and that same rush of excitement and anticipation. that place is really that happiest place on earth for me because i dont have a single bad memory from that place.

The best thing about Space Mountain is when people ask you to describe the ride and it's so hard to! There's just no words to describe it.
