    Yes, there is an actress named Kim Bo Ra. That’s *why* Sua has the stage name “Sua”.

    Positions typically refer to one's ability though that doesn't always tell the whole story since artists usually expand on and increase their abilities as they progress throughout their careers. The breakdown is as follows.
    Main - typically considered to be the best at this given ability. Main dancer is the best dancer in the group, etc.
    Lead - typically considered to be better than the standard vocalists but not quite at the level of a Main vocalist. I think the biggest difference here is usually range and ease of belting. In DCs case, Yoohyeon is an amazing vocalist and, imo, is as good as Siyeon but she has trouble doing sustained higher belts which is the only reason I think she ended up at lead.
    Sub - typically considered the least versatile and/or powerful vocalists in a group. doesn't mean they're not great, just that they're not as good as Lead and Main.
    At this point in their careers, I think all of them could be lead vocals in most other groups and several could be main vocals. They've all worked hard on improving their abilities and it's obvious when you listen to a song like "Reason" where you've got 4 vocalist doing crazy belts and 3 rappers (one of which, Sua, who was just doing belts on the chorus) doing really crazy aggressive raps. Also, when you get into their covers you'll find that some of the "sub-vocalists" are stunning singers and given the opportunity can belt with the best of them. In covers you'll also have the opportunity to hear every member rap as they've all done raps in covers over the years.
    The artist that Yoohyeon was fangirling over was Sunmi. She's a phenomenal soloist and was a member of Wonder Girls from 2007 - 2010. She's one of the handful of soloist I follow because she always releases amazing music.
    Only a week left before the comeback! I've been listening to the Highlight medley all morning and they all sound so good, which is just what I expect from Dreamcatcher at this point. We're over 20 releases in and they've never dropped a bad song.

      Thank you, once again, for such a thorough comment. I’ll have a better understanding now., as I get to know them. I’ve been working on BEcause edits and at some point I was beginning to tell their voices apart. Especially, Siyeon’s. Wow! I sometimes get stuck on this or that when I’m doing reactions, but I feel the more I do them, the better I’ll get at noticing more.
      I heard the medley earlier and I’m excited for the rest!

      @@_KpopAjumma_ yea it really just comes with time and exposure. I had trouble at the beginning telling them apart and it takes even longer to pick out their voices. Since they're so versatile, you'll think you've got it and they'll do a song in a different genre and it takes you right back to being lost again, lol.

    Very, very basically, Main is number 1, Lead is number 2. Sub- is number 3.

    • @Mm29051

      @@_KpopAjumma_ yes, the main vocalist usually has the most lines, the main carries the hight notes, the chorus, etc. The lead support the main, also sing the chorus. Sometimes the lead can sing more lines but the main is the one that still takes the hardest parts

      @@Mm29051 I started obsessing over Everglow when I first heard Sihyeon sing "We came here to slayyyy". I thought a siren was drawing me in. As I continue to listen to them, I've also noticed that Mia can sing different ranges, including the same notes, if not higher than Sihyeon. Also, Mia seems to have more lines. So, I guess that's why Mia is the main, right? Thanks again 🙂

    • @CutleryWonder
      @CutleryWonder 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@_KpopAjumma_ Yes and Mia is very unusual in that she's also the main dancer. I'm not aware of any other girl groups where the main vocalist is also the main dancer. Early on Everglow was sometimes referred to as Mia and Friends because she was getting too much limelight.
      Normally there's only 1 main in each category and possibly multiple leads. Very occasionally they'll name 2 members mains, which is what they've done with Everglow. EU is also a main dancer.

      @@CutleryWonder She's pretty awesome. Very expressive with her dancing. When she did "I Shot Cupid", my jaw dropped when she fell back, making it look like she got shot. Hmmm... I think I might do a Short video on that, showing the different angles.

    Honestly idk why they included the "English" names since they never use them anywhere. But with this guide you can kind of see the characteristics i pointed out in my comment on BEcause. First thing i ever learned in Kpop is to never memorize anyone by their hair because it'll change.
    20:36 - Thats Sunmi - she debuted like 17 years ago in Wonder Girls, which Yoohyeon idolized growing up and is the reason dhe wanted to be a singer.
    23:24 - it was part of her "costume" as Boss Baby (I think)

      Thanks for reminding me where that guide was. I took a screenshot of it, but the picture was cut off. I wrote the characteristics on a sticky. If I continue watching their vids, which I will, I'll be able to match their voices with their faces. Boss Baby makes sense now. I don't think I have a bias, yet, but Dami is pretty damn cool. When I see her, it's like she's telling me, "Yeah, I rap" head nod, "and I can krump, too" head tilt with one brow lift.
      Oh, thanks for watching the entire video. You've just upped my AVD! lol.

    Don't stress about telling the faces apart: we InSomnia are very forgiving about the process since we've all been through it. It took me a month to be able to tell SuA from Siyeon, and now Siyeon is my ultimate bias in Kpop.
    The main/lead//sub thing is fairly unique to Kpop. Another comment has explained the ranking, but I will note that, in addition to more lines, the main vocalist is generally also in charge of doing "top lines" and "adlibs" (which are often written during production and are not adlibbed at all during live performances) which are generally higher (in frequency) parts sung over the others while they are singing (usually in the final chorus). But better lead vocalists like Yoohyeon and Nayeon of TWICE get top lines and ad libs as well. The main vocalist will also often supply harmonies on the rare occasion they are used in Kpop.
    All of DCs members are good solid vocalists, but JiU, Gahyeon and Dami's pitch is less reliable than the others'. Dami and SuA have a higher frequency range than Siyeon and Yoohyeon, and SuA has the largest volume range (i.e. she can ALSO be really loud when singing). Unusually for a main dancer, SuA is probably the third best vocalist in the group. Main rappers often write their own raps, and, indeed, Dami has credit as a writer for most DC title tracks.

      Thanks for your patience. I have noticed that Insomnias are more mature than some other fandoms. Also thank for explaining what adlibs are. I do hear it, but never knew what to call it. I think I have been misusing "harmonizing". That's really cool about Dami writing her raps. I can't remember which song it was, but I did notice that SuA rapped, too. I am wondering if she wrote her lines, too.

    Position/ Roles in Dreamcatcher
    Main = 1
    Lead = 2 or 3
    Sub = 3
    But usually I only use Main & Lead term, since they all can Sing, Rap & Dance.
