  • I am demonstrating on my boat why I decided to purchase an external GPS receiver. Besides being able to position the GPS Puck close to your transducer, there are two other benefits that make the purchase worth the money.

    Thank you
    Probably the first to explain exactly what the Puck actually does.

    Adding a NMEA 2000 backbone and a SteadyCast heading sensor was a game changer for me. I can now orient my maps to my boat.

    On a Garmin, you can use GPS, GLONAS, Galileo all at the same getting an error rate down to 5 feet. Many people are not aware of this feature and then add a $140 SteadyCast

    The Point-1 is every single penny worth it! 👍👍
    I'm using it for years now and fishing and approaching waypoints is a bless now. ❤️

      @@FishinwithSquirrel you did a great job. I had seen them but had no clue why. You really explained well and in depth. And using the buoy as a brush pile example was genius

    Hi there!
    Im fishing on a kayak and got Elite FS and Im thinking about to buy point 1 antena. I want to ask something:
    I noticed that there's a 3-4 secs delay on my GPS movements. I mean I'm on my way to a way point and once stop completely the GPS still moving and that's so annoying so I wonder if point 1 antena will solve that problem.
    Good vid BTW 👌

      The GPS works off of movement only. That’s how the map shows your direction, only when you move. The delay may be a result of the signal your unit is receiving. A point 1 will help with both. It’s has an internal compass to keep your orientation correct on the map. You will also get a stronger signal so your error/ accuracy will be a lot tighter. Thanks for the view!🐿

      Just to be clear. The point one will not completely take the delay you are talking about away. It’s not so much a delay as it not being accurate down to a foot. If you turn on the track feature on your unit and stay parked to a dock, you will not see a single dot. It will set a lot of jumbled circles like you are moving around. This is because it’s not perfectly accurate. The point one will be a little better but still not perfect. However, when you are sitting still, the point 1 will keep your curser from spinning around like a top on your map if you have North up. If you have heading up like I run on my map, it will keep the map from spinning all over the place when you are sitting still. Just wanted to clarify becausea point 1 is about $200 bucks and I don’t want you to be dissatisfied. I love mine and would buy another if it messed up. Don’t forget the Point 1 runs off of the NMEA 2000 network. So, You will need a NEMA starter kit ($70) has everything you need, cables, power cable, and tees.

    Hello!! I would like to ask a question about point-1!
    When I installed point-1 on my elite fs9, and was ready to calibrate,
    I found that the rate of turn was already 5-6 degrees,
    but my boat was tied to the shore and didn't move! What is the reason?

    • @FishinwithSquirrel
      @FishinwithSquirrel  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Be sure your point one is not mounted around anything magnetic 🧲 ex carbon steel ect. Check your location with a compass. Then calibrate in the middle of the lake away from bridges. Bridges are full of steel. Hope this helps. 🐿

    If mounted next to the graph will it couse interferance

    • @FishinwithSquirrel
      @FishinwithSquirrel  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I mounted my point 1 at the back of the boat by the transducer for accuracy when marking waypoints. I would check the location with a standard compass. If there is no magnet interference then you should be good.
