    To anyone else curious of the current Moonshot timeline: (dw no spoilers, but it is still the timeline so be warned)
    06/64 - Soviet successful uncrewed test flight
    08/64 - American successful uncrewed test flight
    10/64 - Soviet Failed crewed LEO flight
    11/64 - Soviet Successful crewed LEO flight
    12/64 - Soviet Failed crewed lunar orbit
    03/65 - Soviet Failed crewed lunar orbit (RIP :( )
    04/65 - American Successful Crewed LEO flight
    05/65 - American Successful Crewed Lunar flight and (assumed) Soviet Crewed Lunar flight
    Now onto some thoughts:
    This race is insanely close, and the fact that they (probably) both are ready to go for lunar landing in the same *MONTH* is astonishing, and speaks to how amazing both of them are in this. Now onto speculation: the Soviets have had WAAY more launches, atleast double, and so the likeliness that everything goes well for beardy is extremely high, atleast in terms of TestFlight. From what I remember from these videos, Beardy has also put an emphasis on single-production rockets, which despite being less cost-efficient means the Soviets will be way more capable of spitting out another N1 very, very soon. On the flip side, we know that their Baikonur launch site is pretty poorly aligned with the moon, so it will likely be atleast another month before they are ready to launch (probably about the time they need to roll out anyways so nbd). We also know that N9 has doubled down on the moon landing, so he'll probably be using all 3 build lines for Saturn V production meaning he may very well have his newest Katurn already ready to go. KSC also has a much more convenient latitude, so my money is on N9 launching extremely soon, probably no later than mid-July. N9s biggest problem is his limited number of flights (and specifically engine failures) so while I dont know the individual engine reliabilities, I would bet that they are slightly lower than the N1's right now (then again more engine=more potential problems so we will see). This is really concerning for his lander system, but then again beardy is in the same boat. Either way, this is a nail biter, and I cant wait to see what happens! Thank you all for the amazing work you have put into this cinematic and dramatic masterpiece, I'm already pumped about season 2!

    • @frankl8492
      @frankl8492 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      TLDR: Both N9 and Beardy are probably only weeks away from lunar landing attempts, and it could not be closer. It really could be anyones game!

    • @stuchris
      @stuchris 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      keeping in mind that american LEO and Lunar orbit were achieved just a week apart, I'd guess that american lunar landing will happen within late may actually, or early june.

    • @frankl8492
      @frankl8492 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@stuchris absolutely, I mostly just put the mid-July note as a worst case scenario thing. In the same boat, I strongly suspect that Beardy has been multi-queueing his latest N1's, since he had so many failures in late 64/early 65. He has already shown that his construction speed is more than capable of spitting out N1's at a somewhat similar cadence to NASA, when Beardy launched three N1s in three consecutive months in 64->65. Given that Beardys last video ended with a proton launch, I wouldnt be shocked if he had another rocket ready to go right away, so in all actuality we will likely see atleast one kerbal on the moon by early July. (For N1 at least, the Lunar orbit test took a total of 2ish weeks, so at earliest the launch would be may 24, meaning the absolute earliest landing date would be ~may 27th). At this rate, rolling out a rocket early might literally be the difference between winning the race or not, which absolutely blows my mind.

    • @stuchris
      @stuchris 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@frankl8492 from what I understand, beardy has his points invested into one queue and N9 has his invested equally into 3 queues. beardy can build N1s incredibly fast, usually building a new one each launch afaik, though it sounds like he has built one extra extremely slowly using an additional mostly unupgraded queue, and N9 has had his Saturn V's produce slower, but output 3 at the same time after the first (meaning N9 should have the lander mission already ready to launch within a week of the lunar orbit mission, just like it was a week after the LEO mission), which is why I say late may. we can only await the next videos to know really

    This is the first of your videos I have watched. Your cinematography instincts are excellent.
    I do have a technical film making critique: during a sequence of any particular maneuver, whether its a space craft, an airplane, or even an automobile, it is usually good practice to use the 180 rule. This means the camera can move anywhere within a 180 degree, spherical zone of the subject, but it should never cross over into the opposing sphere. With a moving object, this 180 line is usually parallel to the vehicle's direction of movement or a line drawn front to back of the vehicle. People instinctively register the direction the space craft is moving around the planet in the first establishing shot. If you cross over the 180 line in any subsequent shot without a transition pan, it suddenly appears that the craft is now orbiting in the opposite direction. In film school you learn that the only time you can break this rule without confusing the audience is if you include a panning shot from one side of the line to the other. This way the viewer knows the camera has transitioned to the other side of the 180 line. It's a small detail, but when the 180 rule is broken it often leads to viewer confusion even if it's only at a subconscious level. I personally would make sure in an Earth orbit that the camera is always located south of the 180 line simply because people are used to thinking and viewing the Earth as north-up. I would probably use the same camera direction for any other planet or moon.

      3 - NASA General Equations of Motion for a Damaged Asymmetric Aircraft:
      Page 02: Rigid Body Equations of Motion Referenced to an Arbitrary Fixed Point on the Body There are several approaches that can be used to develop the general equations of motion. The one selected here starts with Newton’s laws applied to a collection of particles defining the rigid body (any number of dynamics or physics books can serve as references, e.g. reference 2). In this paper, the rigid body equations of motion over a “flat non-rotating Earth” are developed that are not necessarily referenced to the body’s center of mass.

      Page 12: A NUMERICAL EXAMPLE: Problem Statement: The example problem is a fixed-time problem in which it is required to determine the thrust-attitude program of a single-stage rocket vehicle starting from rest and going to specified terminal conditions of altitude and vertical velocity which will maximize the final horizontal velocity. The idealizing assumptions made are the following:
      (1) A point-mass vehicle
      (2) A “flat, nonrotating Earth”

      hey! generally waste and wastewater doesn't effect life support really. Your c02 poisoning is happening due to scrubbers running out of their fuel, being turned off, or certain scrubber types only run for a certain amount of time - namely earlier ones. Make sure to check on your scrubbers basically!
