As a healthcare provider..working on the floor for over 35 yrs..I truly always had empathy for my patients..but after a couple of stays in the hospital myself..it certainly gives you a new prospective on the way patients feel..after my cervical spine injury in 2016 ..corpectomy/ fusion..I had to go on disability..but in November/December of 2023..I spent 3 weeks in the hospital and a month in rehab..after a fall..4 fractures in my back and fractured my humerus completely into...what a traumatic experience in the hospital ..the neglect ..and lack of knowledge..and yes as a woman ..truly was ignored..I truly have PTSD from it..the virtual reality project of healthcare providers having this tool is much needed..it certainly will benefit their patients..great job!!! Maybe expand it to include an in-house stay of patients
Precious Milo. Thanks Jen. Oh my goodness how you are shining. You are back in your space, feeling good, and are a happy camper. Makes my heart so happy. Glad you are getting a lot out of the conference and can have some time to relax and enjoy. Love that smile! Take care. See you soon.
As someone who runs the training for an agency supporting people with disabilities, I feel like your project would be something incredible for our direct care staff to be able to experience what it’s like as a person with disabilities. Is this something that your company is looking to make widely available in the future? I would absolutely be interested in hearing more about it
You are killing it with Vlogmas! I am happy because I enjoy your videos but even happier for you that your mental health has improved!! You seem like your old self again.
Thanks for the video! I love to hear what other people do in their careers/jobs. I can tell you are passionate about it and there is nothing better than loving your work. And sweet Milo, so cute! 🥰
I’m not clinical but have been in the Credentialing field for 24 years. Everything you’re talking about is so very interesting to me! Thank you for sharing
This video was super interesting to me. I appreciate your passion for work and showing us how you manage work alongside family. This is unique to your channel.
This was such a good vid Jen! All your vids are super fun and so engaging! I literally felt like we were drinking coffee and talking. Oh it’s like you’re VR and we are in an immersive experience lol! Thank you for taking us along. It is a lot of work filming on top of your job and traveling - thanks for rep-in’ us working moms. You’re the only TH-camr that I know that has a full time job on top of your full time TH-cam job. Mucho appreciate you ❤❤ happy holidays gal to you and yours ❤
As a healthcare worker I can agree with everything you touched on. On my nursing school journey as I work for a hospital. There are some days I just want to quit for multiple reasons. It’s hard to feel positive about healthcare in USA but I pray that it changes for the better.
Jen I have to say I didn't health care for about 5 years I had to get out because emotionally I couldn't handle it I worked in a nursing home! But I got to tell you you were invigorate everything I love about the medical field. I was the caretaker for both of my parents and you are so right on everything you're saying and if you could ever get to Congress and get in front of them and bring your points up I would like to think that someone is intelligent as you as experiences you along with the people you're speaking of can finally start to make change happen!! It is worth their shot of you trying to escalate exactly what you're doing expedited girl you got this I mean you are making so much sense if it's blowing your mind could you imagine what it would do there! Stay as passionate as you are we need more of you and the medical field many blessings glad to see your back and feeling better
As someone that always gives a bland reply to questionnaires after I have been hospitalized, or even doctor visits, I say this. If the process is working well, and in my case it is, I always feel a bit guilty that I have nothing more to say, other than good job! I struggle to find even the slightest of things to comment on anymore. That however wasn't always the case, 23 years ago when I first joined this practice as a patient. We all had growing pains but we both acted like adults and worked through the rough patches and now they have a smooth running operation. I love all my docs, I don't waste their time if all is ok and I have no issues, just in for a med check or something. But if I have an issue i state it as I make the appointment so as to allow time for delving deeper when necessary. Same goes for the hospital I have been to. The questions are pertinent to situation, they ask, they listen, and pay attention I am treated with respect, I treat them likewise. If I have someone with me able to clarify things for me, which has happened, she has been listened to and I have benefited in the long run. I have only had one bad experience with a hospital patient advocate and I made the hospital aware and they apologized and fortunately I haven't had to go back there. So I appreciate how difficult it can be to drag institutions into the next century and hope forums like you just attended will garner the results y'all have shown to them. It sounds exciting! You're at the forefront of a new era!
I’m 73 y/o and worked for 45 years as corporate VP for an international housewares mfg company. I traveled to nearly all US states during the course of my career. Now retired and widowed, I find myself subjected to sometimes weekly medical visits for a variety of conditions that come with aging. For the very reason you mention, I do not respond to surveys as the are so poorly worded to the point of being a complete waste of my time. Keep up the good work, Jen. Been there, done that.
I found this video very interesting. Im not in health care now although I worked for years as a CNA and then later as a scheduler in a home health care facility. My daughter is an RN who worked in the hospital for a few years in ICU Trauma. She got to the point where she realized that wasn’t why she was drawn to nursing when she felt that all she was doing was drugging patients to keep them still. Her and a colleague decided to open an assisted living facility where she is greatly involved with her clients daily living struggles. It’s been a learning curve but she is very happy and has plans to grow her business and expand. I think nurses are heroes and I thank God for you every day. Thanks for all you do and thanks for sharing you and your life with us! I have a dog just like your Milo and he has a personality that is over the top some days. lol dogs are the best!
I admire you so much Jen and always learn something from you. I’m in education but I would one day like to move out the school setting and pursue training others; similar to you!
Great video, Jen! I love hearing about the amazing work you’re doing in your career! I think it’s incredible that you got to hear Dr. Fauci speak. I don’t have any suggestions for videos. I love the variety that you provide and I always enjoy your insights and wisdom. Also, Milo and Murphy are always a treat to see! 🥰
Thank you for all you are doing to improve the Healthcare industry. I really respect the hard work you put in, in all areas of your life. Just don't forget to take time for you!!
Hi your second mom in Florida 👋🏼 I told my husband I think I see it in your face. Looking lovely. I’m on week 5 double amount starting today. I’ve lost 6 pounds. I have 40 more I want to lose. I’m 67 so it seems to always shows in my face first. God forbid my butt and hips go first 😂 turning cool here in Florida tonight. So proud of you. You set such a wonderful example for your kids and us your viewers. Sorry I missed you. Next time. I totally know we’d laugh like crazy over our margaritas 🍹
Congrats on presenting a poster! I’m on Zepbound, and it fixed my brain and body in a way nothing else, or lifestyle changes alone, ever could. Not an exaggeration. Feels like a miracle drug for me, too. I still have to track food and exercise, but the struggle just isn’t as hard, and that’s life changing for me. Good luck as you continue on your journey.
Thank you for doing what you do. As a long term patient with multiple comorbidities, i welcome admin and staff training to improve patient experience. Ive unfortunately had some traumatic experiences. I also have opinions about how women can be treated. The gaslighting is unreal.
Thank you for your great vlogmas, Jen, I‘ve been enjoying it very much!🤗 Regarding other video suggestions, maybe another Christmas movie themed cooking video or a vintage Christmas dinner. I would also love to hear what cookbooks or kitchen tools you would think would make good gift ideas for other home cooks 😊
Hi Jen. You looked so good in that black dress. I just love your smile. It doesn't matter to me what you put out for vlogmas. I just like spending time with you. Have a wonderful time tomorrow night at Epcot. I've never been but I'm sure it's amazing! Travel safely, dear one.
I give a 9 always with my primary care provider. 1 because I'm very intuned with my body. I have several problems and I was on narcotics, for several years. I'm now no longer on narcotics and I've had 5 back surgeries both knees replaced. I still need shoulder surgery on both shoulders. Plus I'm currently dealing with latent tuberculosis. Im on a 4 mth treatment with rifampin 300 mg 2x a day. So My 6th back surgery has been delayed and my shoulders will be taken care of after I heal from back surgery.
I come to the conference every year! What a surprise to know you are here too! This year’s presentations have been outstanding..I work in the Age-Friendly track.
Ah! So jealous you got to see Dr. Fauci in person! What an event! Congrats on rocking the poster and conference! Presenting can be nerve wracking but it’s also cool to show people what you know and see their reactions and discuss. Nerds to nerds! 🤓🤓🤓
It sounds like a great conference. How great that you got to see Dr. Fauci speak. I’ve worked with Patricia McGaffigan and she’s terrific. Enjoy Orlando!
I know how you feel. Trying to lose weight has been a lifelong challenge. I’ve lost 14 pounds my first month on Wegovy. I am very optimistic about this medication. You look awesome in that dress.
Wonderful content about the IHI Forum! You make some valid points about assessing the imperical elements of most surveys. I'm thinking of going for a nursing degree and would like to use my business background to work in Quality Improvement. Have fun at Epcot, look forward to seeing your video!
I get those survey’s and what a drag they can be. I do try to do them each time but rarely do I leave a comment. I had breast cancer surgery in August and I ran out of ways to say everything was fine
Hello. Suggestion for a video if you have time: another video about your experience Semaglutine. For instance, positive points and negative points to consider and also it would be interesting to know what you plan to do after weight loss to maintain the results in the long run. Thanks have a nice day!
I agree. I’ve been on Ozempic for six months. It has reduced my A1C by two full points and cut my appetite it half. I’ve lost about 30 pounds but my appetite seems to be back to normal. I’ll probably stay on Ozempic if it continues to control my diabetes, regardless of any further weight loss.
Okay so I work in health care in quality for my state Medicaid for EPSD and I feel like CMS never listens to us on our calls and it's the same message always over and over. We could do everything right, but CMS will be like oh buuuuuut it doesn't quite meet this metric - like WHAT?! How can you tell us to do this when it doesn't add up for our members?! Sorry rant over. 🤣
I would challenge the perspective that patients are not at your vocabulary "level." It implies inferiority. You could be treating an astrophysicist and their vocabulary could far exceed your own. I wonder if there is a way to say that patients come with a wide array of life and educational experiences? And, could it be that to be most effective as providers, the medical language we use inside of the healthcare system needs to reflect that? I love all your videos. I have been binge watching the Vlogmas videos in the background while working!
As an educated non-healthcare provider, I personally find it insulting that you are instructed to write your directions for your patients on the sixth or seventh grade level. How pompous of an attitude from the presenter. I understand, not speaking in technical medical terms however that doesn’t mean you should talk to the patients like they are children unless of course, they are children.
Please keep in mind, many patients are not educated and their reading level is 5th or 6th grade level. Instructions have to be clear and written at a level that MOST people can understand. It is equally insulting to those patients when they receive Instructions they can't comprehend. Not only insulting, but dangerous because they may not follow their instructions and it can affect their health.
I’m educated and I would rather medical professionals start at a 7th grade level and then that allows me to ask additional questions. I always want to know “why” about everything. I have a spine physician who is excellent, but I think he speaks at a higher level with me because he can tell that I’m educated, but sometimes I get lost in his medical jargon. As long as you get what you need for your health concerns, I think that’s the most important thing. You may be surprised how little people know about the medical field and their health conditions. For example, my Mother-in-law didn’t know that Honey Nut Cheerios aren’t good for her since she’s a diabetic. It happens.
I love when you take us to work ❤
