  • After watching this video you will be able to describe the four primary movements of the spine in the four cardinal planes. You will be able to describe what happens as the Z-joints (facet joints), the body of the vertebrae as well as the intervertebral disc.

Thank you! The color on the facet joints was very helpful.

In February 2011, I sustained a back injury while lifting a heavy object without proper form. My back was bent rather than straight, and as I lifted, I felt a severe cramp-like sensation, causing me to collapse onto a nearby bed. Since then, I've been unable to fully rotate or bend laterally without encountering a knot or stiffness around the bottom of my thoracic spine.
While watching your video, I began to suspect that a disc might have been overstretched. Could you provide any advice on this? Would performing back stretches, such as the cat-cow stretch and arching my back, be beneficial, or should I consult a doctor first?
    Thank you for your help.

I am genuinely unsure where the fourth plane of movement is; biomechanically speaking three are normally taught/discussed, i.e., coronal/frontal, sagittal, transverse. Also, there are combination movements within the spine during rotation and lateral flexion of an intact spine.

Thank you so much for this video. Any chance you can refer to video explain " the nucleus shifting consideration" ?

I want to know why whenever I bent sideways, my spine (I think it's the spine) makes a movement noise. It's not a popping sound, it's an actual noise. I don't know how to explain it but it's kind of deep and it's like mostly bone sounds, like when a robot moves if you want to put it that way lol. If you get what I mean. Is it dangerous if it happens?
I'm also around 15 and I just wanna know what the case is
Maybe I just didn't notice the sound and everyone has it? I really wanna know tho

In the beggining i dont get it when you say FASAY -- I just realized you were saying faceT joint when you started pointing on the joint it self. Nice vidoe though. Thanks

Can you please also make a video teaching how to mobilize if there's restriction of rotation in thoracic vertebrae and lumbar and cervical too

I’m wondering why t-10 rolls back posterior onto t-11 instead of gliding/sliding? Facet joints are gliding joints no?

How many degrees of freedom does the zygapophyseal joint have?

Why use thoracic spine for flex/ext example when that’s not its role? Better example would be lumbar or cervical.

Perhaps because a lot of people get back pain here as well.
