  • A simple levator scapulae stretch won’t do much to ease that pain in your neck. Instead, it’s time to understand the root causes so you can recover effectively.

    I thought my shoulder and neck pain was coming from my trapezius muscle. Glad I found this video, which put the blame where it should be, on my forward head and rounded shoulder posture from years of desk and computer work. I had no idea the stress it was putting on my levator scapulae. I'm now committed to fixing this problem and this video has given me most of what I need to do that. I'll check back in later when I get the relief I need and can tell of my improvement. Thank you.

      @@PrecisionMovementCoach When I was young I did a lot of martial art training about 20 years of it. After that I started going to chiropractors because they were in my family however my favorite doctor gave me soma + codeine and I became addicted and never fixed the problem and then a car accident. They wanted me to do a spinal Frankenstein thing that involved a lot of morphine so I past on that and retired. I have recently recovered from hypothyroid and I am looking for this type perspective which reminds of some Tai Chi training I had when I was young. All of these neck, shoulder and therasic muscle structures need to be woken up safely. Thanks again for showing a good way to get started!

      @@RicardoBirdlegs Sorry for the delay. LEVATOR SCAPULAE has stopped straining and life is normal again!
      I performed the exercises here daily and increased the neck exercises by approximately ten (10) seconds per day - getting it up to 90 seconds.
      Once it felt secure (after a week), I began to add exercises to it, core strength exercises. Following this, I began weights again and it's now fixed!
      The trick is to do these exercises here and build on them daily :-) Increase the load, strengthening the surrounding muscles (shoulder, back, chest etc) and it will eventually go away.

    Had terrible lev scap pain for years - though only just found out what they are. It's worse on right side, where the shoulder is depressed, giving me pain down the side of my neck, and a terrible band headache. I also have kyphosis, giving me chronic tension in head, neck, and upper back.
    The pain is so bad I have to lie with my chin tucked into my chest all day. I used to stand all the time but no longer have the stamina to.
    My latest NHS physio just admitted, after months of useless graded exposure exercises, that he doesn't know how to treat me.
    I've done chest, trap, and lat stretching. I've strengthened the lower traps, external rotator cuffs, and rear delts. I've strengthened the deep neck flexors. I'm currently doing overhead shrugs and scapula wall slides for the depressed shoulder, and prone thoracic extension exercises for the hunchback. Should I add anything else into my routine?

      I've done the kneeling thoracic extension exercise before but have been doing prone extensions instead. I can do the kneeling version too/instead if think that will help.
      I've done lying neck flexion, with plates for resistance, to work the deep neck flexors. I haven't tried the lying exercise in the video but will start it today.

  • @lw7654
    @lw7654 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hi Eric, so if you have levator pain, I should try your above exercises first. Then strengthen your serratus in that order? I didn’t see your link to postural dysfunction which is what I have. This might be a reason my levator pain/dysfunction isn’t getting any better, the missing piece would be the serratus muscle? The levator keeps screwing with my cervical spine, adding in some other muscles making me feel imbalanced, almost dizzy.

    Very good explanations, Tank you. what if one(F) doesn't have forward head or the #2&3 reasons, but has LEVATOR SCAPULAE Pain that radiates up and down? 45 degrees Side bend and back bend are nearly impossible, but rotation is fine but triggers pain. Winged scapula is on the same side. So what is the potential cause? should I wait til pain subsides to re-start exercises? Every time I start exercises for winged scapula my levator scapulas turn into a rock with pain radiating down the shoulder blades and up side the neck. Often I get dizzy, so I quit. thank you

And no activation for deep flexors...many other videos yt do the maximal chin tuck with maximal lifting the head off and I consider this not what we want .

    If you do stretches for a very tight levator scapulae, when is it supposed to stop hurting to stretch & being tight especially when I wake up? 😅 Been doing it each side 1 min long twice a day for almost a week and it's still so stiff and tight. Will it ever get less tight with time??? (In addition to other exercises)

    • @PrecisionMovementCoach
      @PrecisionMovementCoach  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Stretching is not going to help you to resolve the root cause of your issue.
      You may experience temporary relief after stretching but it is mainly because the muscle tissue has been distorted. It will return to its previous state in about 20 min.
      Check out the Neck Restoration routines in the ROM Coach app:
