    Sony's new Compact was announced on 1st September 2016.
    Following on from a popular range of devices, does this handset have what it takes to compete with the devices available on the market today?
    It certainly meets the needs of a niche that don't want a big phone, but the quality of smartphones is better than ever.
    A cleaner interface, an ideally placed fingerprint sensor and a 23 megapixel camera as well as the new USB Type-C connector.

    Such a balanced device... The only real one-handed device.. But, three things are wrong with it... No ip certification, no metal, which leads to the last wrong thing... The price.. And that's why I'm considering buying it, when before the announcement, I was certain I would...

      I was expecting something better than z5, but that's not the case with the x compact... And the prices are always wrong, when it comes to Sony smartphones...

    • @Ragna___
      @Ragna___ 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +ApplepieFTW, that is so true. That's what you get, when you try to make a smartphone paper-thin. Not even taking about small batteries, as a result...

    What is better you think, after samsung galaxy alpha?
    X Compact or still Z5 Compact ?
    I waiting for s7mini but probably this is only virtual phone :-)

      I replaced my Alpha with z3 compact after a couple of months, super happy. But next time i switch phone i go with the bigger screen, just because there are so good phones in 5-5,2" range and they really slimmed down the bezel. I've tested the Xiaomi mi5 and it was so easy to handle with one hand.

    X Compact is certainly not a "squished XZ", but a mini version of the Xperia X model, thus not including flagship specs.
    A flagship compact will come in a form of XZ Compact or something in that fashion.
    As it stands, the Z5 Compact is the flagship compact phone of Sony, not this one.
    Cheers

    • @akshayde
      @akshayde 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The biggest shit show of the z5 compact is the screen. You would think the low resolution would help with the battery but it doesn't. It's not the resolution.. But the technology of the lcd that's the culprit. The 2700mah battery is drained around 1% every 3-4 minutes that you use the phone. So if yr on the phone for 10 minutes you can see your battery go down from 50 to 46%. Incidentally 46% is also the battery usage of the screen. Everything else maxes out at 10. My z5 dropped 2 % while I was typing this. On the flip side, standby time is excellent. Maybe1-2% while yr sleeping. I usually have to charge the phone once at night and once during the day. The galaxy s7 I was using lasted my a day and a half easily. The battery mah difference is only about 300 and the screen battery usage is about 13%

      I totally agree with you on the battery life of the Z5c. It sucks. I also have to charge during the day and at night. I first became a Sony fanboy after getting the Z1c from an iPhone 5S. Everything else was just too big. I wanted to stay small as I think a cellphone should be kept small. The battery life on the Z1c was awesome! lasted me up to 2 or 3 days with a good amount of usage. I was amazed at its capabilities with battery, performance and design. At the time, I feel like the software update from kitkat to lillipop effected its battery life, but I can't say for sure. Unfortunately, I tested the phone's waterproof and it died on me. By this time, the Z5c was going to unveil in a few weeks so I waited. It was a serious letdown when they announced it. The things that drove me to get the Z5c instead of the Z3c was the fingerprint reader, and the higher specs. The battery life is no where near as good as the Z1c's was. Just doing simple tasks would drain the battery for reasons unknown. They gave us a few updates to address the battery issues, but none of them ever solved the problem really. Also, the processor runs VERY hot during heavy use. It would be burning while playing games or even navigating sometimes. Many users has said that it actually doesn't run that hot.... the other phones with the same SD Core must be cooking eggs!!! It's also got BLUETOOTH issues!! The Z5c really lacks the usability because I am cautious about using it so the battery doesn't die on me. This is where Sony has since failed us time and time again. The updates, even though it was suppose to handle Bluetooth issues and battery life, did not do ANYTHING. The phone is also LAGGY!!! This is something you wouldn't expect from a high end spec phone! I was amazed in the worst way...
      This unveil of the X compact is yet another letdown. It is totally different from what we are use to seeing. The specs are lower, its not waterproof, and I hate design. It looks like a copy of Nokia's phones. I wish Sony would get their act together already. I am seriously considering replacing my Z5c with the Z3c because of the Z5c's battery life, and burning processor. No fingerprint reader for US version? What's up with that!? I get my phones unlocked international version anyway. Not like any US carriers offers Sony phones..

    "Successor to the Z5 Compact"...no.
    To be a successor, the X Mini would have to actually be a smaller version of the flagship XZ (or even the X Performance). The X Mini is, however, a shrunk down version of the mid-range Xperia X.
    So, yes, there's a gap in the market for Compact phones with flagship specs. The X Mini DOES NOT fill in that space. It's a mid-range phone, not a premium one.
    - 720p in 2016 is not acceptable in a premium phone, regardless of being actually useful to have a larger resolution:
    - No waterproofing clearly separates it from the premium line
    - No Qi wireless charging on a phone that's thicker and taller than the Z3Compact is inadmissible
    - The mid-range processor - SD650 - clearly shows it's not a premium device or else it'd have the SD820
    - The camera can't record 4K video unlike the premium XZ and all the real Compacts.
    - The downgrade in the front facing camera is also a compromise that isn't explained, specially considering the size of the phone compared to the other Compacts.
    This phone is, therefore, actually an Xperia X Mini.
    Worse than that, and whilst I know Clove hasn't announced pricing for this phone, Amazon UK has it listed for £379. If we consider that the Z3 Compact cost me £349 on launch-day and was a REAL Compact flagship, the X Mini is an overpriced mid-range device.
    For 350€ or 400€ at the most, this phone could be a good purchase. However, with the likes of the OnePlus and the Honor 8 on the market, it's very hard to justify giving more than that for what this is: a mid-range, Mini version of the mid-range Xperia X.
    This phone is NOT worth it even for Z3 Compact owners. Z3 Compact owners will be better served with the Galaxy S7, despite it's larger size. Or, indeed, with the iPhone SE.
    Therefore I can't agree with your analogy with the old friend. At best, the Xperia X "Compact" is the old friend who was gorgeous in middle-school but that when you meet a bunch of years later, has grown ugly as a result of unnecessary and uncalled for plastic surgeries.

      Juuso Peltoniemi Well it is weaker than 810 from Z5C and 820 from Xperia performance.

      Christoss007 I agree, Z5C was a bit of a let down but only a little. It had quality problems, design was good but not as good as Z3C. I'd choose Z5C but only because of fingerprint scanner.

    Very professional, good review. You convinced me, but I still must be critical. Is really X Compact better than Z5 Compact? X seems it has better GPU, stereo speakers is for me only better and battery also seems better though processor and camera seem worse. I would like to know which overheats more but probably Z5 as it has 4K enabled and which has better battery life as X comes with with Quick Charge 3.0? But it has this new feature during night charging. Should I also be worried for non water-proof?

    • @clove
      @clove  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you already own a Z5 Compact there is little point in upgrading unless you need to in our opinion.
      There are small improvements but some drawbacks in some users opinions. We did not really experience any overheating with the X Compact, so we cant say that this is an issue. The heat will depend on the use you have of the device., as will the battery life, but we would conclude without doing a complete side by side test that the two are very comparable.

    Guys help me decide!! Z5c or x compact?? Deciding factor is less lag/stutter when using the phone, heating issues, battery life and gaming. How is the one better than the other? Is it far better or just a hairline better?
