Not a lot of people notice, but when Shep is climbing back out of the rubble to save herself at 53:50 , the whole underground of the Asari temple is filled with Prothean hardware. The beacon is just a small part of the technology that was hidden.
I just sat in awe during the end of this mission because this is Shepard's first loss in her entire career and when the whole team came together and decided to wipe Cerberus, I felt an adrenaline surge inside me.
Fun fact: The Elcor stating their emotions before a statement is a courtesy to other races since they perceive them as monotone when their emotions are typically read by their own kind through scents and subtle movements. The main thing I want from the next mass Effect game is an Elcor companion, who doesn't give you the courtesy of stating their emotions like the Elcor in the trilogy do, but has a tendency to be a wisecracker. But it's all monotone because they're an Elcor, so you have no idea when they're joking. I want it so bad.
Liara: * complains about the Alliance not sending air support * Me: "What's left of the Alliance is either building the Crucible, or stuck on Earth. wtf you mean?"
I have been very much enjoying watching your playthrough of my all time favorite trilogy. I have played this series dozens of times through the years. That said, you are finding things I have never seen just because of decison making . That's what makes this the most amazing game series imo. That,and how invested and attached we become to the world and our "friemds". Don't apologize for the sniffling, seeing you so invested has us riveted.
1:08:12 I am French, I have always played in the French version, and I always thought that EDI proposing to sing the Marseillaise was due to the adaptation for the French version, the original version necessarily mentioning another anthem. It's a detail, but what a surprise.
All the dialogue with the characters in the game, it's so good. And you feel the effort and the passion from the VAs. We don't really get video games with this level of passion for a franchise these days. And it's like you said at the end there, the work in mass effect franchise, you feel how invested and passionate they were in developing the game, so we too become passionate and invested.
Joker mentions his sister and father live on Tiptree. If you go to the hospital on the Citadel, there's an asari that escaped from Tiptree, and has multiple lines talking about her experience there. It's incredibly easy to miss, and you have to keep leaving and coming back to get the full story, but it's the only other time Tiptree gets mentioned/the only way you get to find out what happens on that planet.
Love your playthrough Lucy! As sad as this mission is, there is one thing to always remember: Good. You opened this message. This isn't actually asari military command. They're busy tending to what's left of their planet. So you survived our fight on Thessia. You're not as weak as I thought. But never forget that your best wasn't good enough to stop me. Now an entire planet is dying because you lacked the strength to win. The legend of Shepard needs to be re-written. I hope I'm there for the last chapter. It ends with your death. -KL
Small tweaks would have made it work without breaking suspension of disbelief : the first time you "defeat" him he throws up _Stasis_ on one of your companions and instructs the gunship to fire missiles and machine-gun fire : you'll HAVE to get out of the way. The floor drops below you and voila! There is - obviously! - only so much the Unreal engine of over a decade ago (!!!) could do but one can imagine what CDProject would have done : in CYPK2077, the whole game must be handled in 1st person so they got creative in very impressive ways to handle "cut scenes"!
They were double checking the thermal ducts by swapping spit in a vertical press. Next on Jerry Springer: two quarreling engineers suddenly find themselves in agreement. And the Commander that kept tabs on them! Jerry! Jerry! Jerry!

I genuinely believe a full elcor-rescue mission was initially planned by Bioware, but was ultimately scrapped due to time constraints/rushed development by EA. You are enjoying the final product, but this game had several controversies at release and afterward. Javik was a purchasable DLC available at launch. The original ending and later Extended Cut DLC... it was a ride. Lots of evidence shows that ME3 could have been 5x better than it was if they'd had another year to really finish their vision. Still one of my favorite games ever. But sometimes I ache for what could have been.

13:22 I think this line 'we had to kill her' is sort of implying that Liara was canonically there (regardless of who you actually bring in your playthrough). There are other examples of these lines too. Tali in ME2 has an audio log on Haestrom (during her recruitment mission) that has a line that says 'Shepard once used a mining laser to clear some rubble back on Therum'. There's also another line in the Citadel DLC which I won't talk about because of spoilers. Wrex also has one if you speak to him when he's on the Normandy in ME3. It's around the time when you have to go do the Rachni mission with Grunt. Shepard says: "Are you sure it's Rachni? The Queen made a promise to not attack others again if I let her go.". Then Wrex says: "I know, I was there".
Because of development time constraints, Garrus originally would mention that the reason his dad and sister survived is because Sidonis rescued them. Since Garrus never mentions his mother, that means she died from her disease shortly before ME3.
Yeah... the disappointment of finding out that Elcor thing is just another scanning mission is a universal experience. We spend three games wanting to see the Elcor in action, and get nothing. 😭 Well, except for the absolutely heartbreaking line when you turn it in and the Elcor ambassador is too distressed to even articulate his tone.
You *really* need to work on the proper combos when playing on Insanity - and I'm still finding new ones, 8 play-throughs later! I've come around on the Mattock and placed it second after the M-7 Lancer : freeze ammo + _slam_ + _reave_ = fun!
Never apologies for getting upset or emotional with these games! We're all in the same boat 😢 The Thessia mission is always an emotional one, and afterwards the way the crew rally around Shep is just so beautifully written. Kai Leng is my most hated video game character. Like saying that about Thane!! Thane was dying, probably only had a few weeks of life left, and he kicked your ass!! If he was even at 50%, it would have bene no competition!!!! Egotasitcal maniac. Jesus I can't wait for you to fight him again!!!!!
If I remember correctly you should be able to break the glass on the Cerberus mechs and shoot the pilot directly. I don’t remember if there were any in the next mission, but considering how far into the story it is if say it’s very likely.
"This is really tough you guys!" . . . *combos* my dear Lucy, combos! 3 squadmate powers + specialized ammo can COMBINE together. At your difficulty level you would have been able to save Talon 5 against the two Harvesters. Think combos : the game is, you know, _kinda_ built around them!
When Leng goes full on loser and just blkws up the place. The hesitation to answer the asari counselor's call. The tough talk with liara after the mission. The game does a great job of building up your hatred of Leng
Banshee are easy to deal as vanguard charge at them then dodge shoot until you recharge your biotic charge then repeat until banshee dies, Thank you for bringing Javik on Thessia, no other squad mate would have those dialogues/interactions other than Javik
Don’t charge when they are teleporting, if they are casting warp balls they are safe to charge. Also (and this works in ME3mp) if you have stairs or a ramp if you get either above or below them, they can’t do their sync animation and insta-kill you.
cant wait to see you get Started with Leviathan dlc and then Citadel dlc, such fun is to be had with those (despite they taking place before Act 3) 6:00 yeah this is basically how most Sidemissions are, just doing this, literally just scanning solar systems and then grabbing the "item of interest" and then turning it in. there fast and easy, but the profit you get is pretty worth it. 49:54 if you had Lash as one of your abilities (you get it from Aria) then you can just Bully Kai Leng by just tossing him around and he cant do anything to you at all (of course sooner or later this will bug out the fight and you have to restart from Autosave) 1:06:00 oh no not this part. if your wonder what they two asari in the citadel hospital where talking about, this was what those two where talking about. (but if you played as Male-shepard the voicelines sound more harsh when talking to joker.)
1:09:37 James was a pleasant surprise. I went from being a little put off by his attitude when he first came on board to regarding him as one of Mass Effect's more endearing characters.
When you are entering the temple, you just have to advance to a certain position and then the Asari fighter will draw off the harvester and the fight ends... I've spent WAY too much time fighting there before figuring that out. Without Javvik in your party, you never learn that the Protheans helped the Asari. It's interesting for sure, but it's just lore so it has no bearing on the direction of the main storyline. "Who gave this guy my fuxn email???" 🤣🤣🤣 You really make me laugh Lucy.
Kaidan and Canadian lore lol!! "Yeah, PM Laurier deflected an asteroid that was aboot to hit Thesssia!!" "The RCAF shot down all the Oravores bombers that tried to wipe out the asari!" "Yeah ... We ... umm ... partnered with Monsanto to genetically engineer y'all with that ability!" "Astronomy? You can thank PM Chretien for sending some McGill professors over to teach you!"
Javik has always been an underrated character in my eyes. You always view him as an ass when you first meet him and he puts most people off so they don't use him. But if we remove the "this is a game" from our brains here and the humor that makes it lighter. Mass Effect is a horror universe. If we put ourselves into the shoes of the Normandy crew, mentally and emotionally most of us wouldn't last nearly as long as they do. Javik has lived that horror his entire life, he is what any of us would become if we were to survive that war. Nothing less would work, because if you can't detach yourself the way he does, you'd probably off yourself a couple months into the war, realistically. All his little butt ins that sound assholish are actually genuine, realistic advice. Telling the grieving woman watching her homeworld burn to simply shrug it off and steel herself sounds insensitive and rude to us, and it is in our comparatively less traumatic world, but that was honestly the best advice anyone could have told her in that moment. Do you think any average person in Liara's shoes, going through the trauma she did, would have survived the mission? A bit of a ramble, but honestly I've always liked Javik a bit more than most people do, his unmoderated pragmaticism and blunt survivability don't get quite as appreciated as I wish.
The Asari's pride and inertia is what doomed them. They had their homeworld prothean bacon for millenia and kept it secret, even though they passed laws to make it illegal to do so. If they had given up their beacon in mass effect 1 then they would've kept their homeworld safe. Ohh well, I guess they paid for their sins.
"I can't believe I'm crying over a pretend alien race'". That's how much the story sucks you in. You get invested in the story and characters. That's why it's still regarded as one of the best.
I think I've brought this up before but: Javik has soo much interaction because he was originally supposed to be in the game... as the Catalyst. Unfortunately they didn't finish those plans in time so he became an all but day 1 dlc companion instead. Edit: Oh no... that Elcor spoke with actual fking emotion. I'd say that was barely contained fury not sadness. Edit 2: If Javik isn't there you get no extra info. It's why many will push blind players to bring him. Edit 3: Yeah... everyone hates the Edgy Ninja fker. That Joker scene is where you get the hint that the Asari in the hospital was talking about Joker's family (she mentioned a small homestead on that planet). I personally think you should have done most of Leviathan between Rannoch and Thessia... everything feels too time sensitive from here on out imo. Only the last mission of Leviathan makes sense to hold off on till nowish.
Yeah . . . music, colours, enormous machines dropping from the sky while the last of the resistance are slaughtered on your comms and there is NOTHING Shep can do : the fall of Thessia hits hard. I've seen it, played it so many times and still : waterworks. Terrific end to the 2nd act of the story. Let us mourn together.
This is what this mission did realy well.... how bad Kay Leng is as a Character is besides the point, the failiure in general had me in denial, I was shocked....
Maybe it's the renegade in me, or my loyalty to legion, but even though thessia is scripted, I'm tempted to say you deserve this loss for trying to wipe out the geth. 😈
Javik isn't a priority squadmate on Thessia because back in the day Javik was a DLC character you had to buy. It was such a dumb move on EA's part by doing that.
You would fare much better in battle if give yourself and your squadmates better weapons. The one you equipped from the start of the game are outclassed and the weakest ones
At some points of the game combat will be hard even on lower difficulty with basic weapons level 5. Better weapons to be used and once upgraded will make combat easier. Taking Javik always gives some unique conversation. Time for shore leave.
Bioware really effed up not giving us an actual Elcor extraction mission. They could have made Benning a scanning mission and Dekunna an N7 extraction mission. Would have been so much better. Priority Thessia is kind of the beginning of the end because it generates a sense of urgency (not that it actually starts a countdown), doing Leviathan and most side missions before Thessia goes well thematically. Kai Leng is the weakest sauce nemesis in all of gaming, it's embarrassing for Bioware.
18:58 Well, as long as it's not an open world game and is linear with open hubs like the original ME Trilogy. Andromeda was good, but I prefer the classic way. I don't have much faith in modern day Bioware. What was the last decent game they released? Dragon Age Inquisition? MAYBE Andromeda, if you're being generous and ignoring it's release state. And that's debatable. ME3 really is a gorgeous game though. Even on Xbox 360 where I played it originally at release it looked good. I just wish they hadn't squandered the trilogy's story in ME2.
Unpopular opinion but Liara annoyed me this mission 😬 never been a big fan of her anyway but mostly I was just apathetic about her the whole trilogy, except this one. Why is she a required squadmate here, aside from being an asari? She’s clearly in an emotional state, and not fit to be on a mission. Shepard should know better.
Dekuuna has a surface gravity of 4g. The Elcor are big and heavy, well suited to their planet. Their slow movement are very deliberate. Can't imagine Shepard running around, shooting bad guys and dodge rolling there. She'd break every bone in her body 😂

The genius of this game is fully evident in the Thessia mission. Making us feel so many emotions.... the characters, the writing and that darn music!

I just noticed that Traynor sounded like Mom while saying Ma'am. The British version of Ma'am sounds almost like Mom in American English.

it may not be funny the first time but the Kai Leng fake email is one of the funniest things in any video game.
It is probably a good thing they took Jack's cot out of engineering before this point.

Banshees are a nightmare on insanity difficulty they are heavily armored and they have very strong energy shields. Great playthrough!

Shepard shouldn't feel responsible for what happened to Thessia or any other world, the politicians and Council ignored the warnings.

When Leng goes full on loser and just blkws up the place. The hesitation to answer the asari counselor's call. The tough talk with liara after the mission. The game does a great job of building up your hatred of Leng
After the next mission you should do all the DLCs. The next Priority mission after that is the Point of No Return.

Banshee are easy to deal as vanguard charge at them then dodge shoot until you recharge your biotic charge then repeat until banshee dies, Thank you for bringing Javik on Thessia, no other squad mate would have those dialogues/interactions other than Javik

Don’t charge when they are teleporting, if they are casting warp balls they are safe to charge. Also (and this works in ME3mp) if you have stairs or a ramp if you get either above or below them, they can’t do their sync animation and insta-kill you.
cant wait to see you get Started with Leviathan dlc and then Citadel dlc, such fun is to be had with those (despite they taking place before Act 3)
6:00 yeah this is basically how most Sidemissions are, just doing this, literally just scanning solar systems and then grabbing the "item of interest" and then turning it in. there fast and easy, but the profit you get is pretty worth it.
49:54 if you had Lash as one of your abilities (you get it from Aria) then you can just Bully Kai Leng by just tossing him around and he cant do anything to you at all (of course sooner or later this will bug out the fight and you have to restart from Autosave)

When you are entering the temple, you just have to advance to a certain position and then the Asari fighter will draw off the harvester and the fight ends... I've spent WAY too much time fighting there before figuring that out. Without Javvik in your party, you never learn that the Protheans helped the Asari. It's interesting for sure, but it's just lore so it has no bearing on the direction of the main storyline. "Who gave this guy my fuxn email???" 🤣🤣🤣 You really make me laugh Lucy.

Javik has always been an underrated character in my eyes. You always view him as an ass when you first meet him and he puts most people off so they don't use him. But if we remove the "this is a game" from our brains here and the humor that makes it lighter. Mass Effect is a horror universe. If we put ourselves into the shoes of the Normandy crew, mentally and emotionally most of us wouldn't last nearly as long as they do. Javik has lived that horror his entire life, he is what any of us would become if we were to survive that war. Nothing less would work, because if you can't detach yourself the way he does, you'd probably off yourself a couple months into the war, realistically. All his little butt ins that sound assholish are actually genuine, realistic advice. Telling the grieving woman watching her homeworld burn to simply shrug it off and steel herself sounds insensitive and rude to us, and it is in our comparatively less traumatic world, but that was honestly the best advice anyone could have told her in that moment. Do you think any average person in Liara's shoes, going through the trauma she did, would have survived the mission?
A bit of a ramble, but honestly I've always liked Javik a bit more than most people do, his unmoderated pragmaticism and blunt survivability don't get quite as appreciated as I wish.
The Asari's pride and inertia is what doomed them. They had their homeworld prothean bacon for millenia and kept it secret, even though they passed laws to make it illegal to do so. If they had given up their beacon in mass effect 1 then they would've kept their homeworld safe. Ohh well, I guess they paid for their sins.
"I can't believe I'm crying over a pretend alien race'". That's how much the story sucks you in. You get invested in the story and characters. That's why it's still regarded as one of the best.

I think I've brought this up before but: Javik has soo much interaction because he was originally supposed to be in the game... as the Catalyst. Unfortunately they didn't finish those plans in time so he became an all but day 1 dlc companion instead.
Edit: Oh no... that Elcor spoke with actual fking emotion. I'd say that was barely contained fury not sadness.
Edit 2: If Javik isn't there you get no extra info. It's why many will push blind players to bring him.
Edit 3: Yeah... everyone hates the Edgy Ninja fker. That Joker scene is where you get the hint that the Asari in the hospital was talking about Joker's family (she mentioned a small homestead on that planet). I personally think you should have done most of Leviathan between Rannoch and Thessia... everything feels too time sensitive from here on out imo. Only the last mission of Leviathan makes sense to hold off on till nowish.
Yeah . . . music, colours, enormous machines dropping from the sky while the last of the resistance are slaughtered on your comms and there is NOTHING Shep can do : the fall of Thessia hits hard. I've seen it, played it so many times and still : waterworks. Terrific end to the 2nd act of the story. Let us mourn together.

Javik isn't a priority squadmate on Thessia because back in the day Javik was a DLC character you had to buy. It was such a dumb move on EA's part by doing that.

You would fare much better in battle if give yourself and your squadmates better weapons. The one you equipped from the start of the game are outclassed and the weakest ones

At some points of the game combat will be hard even on lower difficulty with basic weapons level 5. Better weapons to be used and once upgraded will make combat easier. Taking Javik always gives some unique conversation. Time for shore leave.
Bioware really effed up not giving us an actual Elcor extraction mission. They could have made Benning a scanning mission and Dekunna an N7 extraction mission. Would have been so much better.
Priority Thessia is kind of the beginning of the end because it generates a sense of urgency (not that it actually starts a countdown), doing Leviathan and most side missions before Thessia goes well thematically.
Kai Leng is the weakest sauce nemesis in all of gaming, it's embarrassing for Bioware.
18:58 Well, as long as it's not an open world game and is linear with open hubs like the original ME Trilogy. Andromeda was good, but I prefer the classic way. I don't have much faith in modern day Bioware. What was the last decent game they released? Dragon Age Inquisition? MAYBE Andromeda, if you're being generous and ignoring it's release state. And that's debatable. ME3 really is a gorgeous game though. Even on Xbox 360 where I played it originally at release it looked good. I just wish they hadn't squandered the trilogy's story in ME2.

Unpopular opinion but Liara annoyed me this mission 😬 never been a big fan of her anyway but mostly I was just apathetic about her the whole trilogy, except this one. Why is she a required squadmate here, aside from being an asari? She’s clearly in an emotional state, and not fit to be on a mission. Shepard should know better.
Yeah I understand why Liara herself would want to be there, but I agree she shouldn’t have been sent on this mission!

Dekuuna has a surface gravity of 4g. The Elcor are big and heavy, well suited to their planet. Their slow movement are very deliberate. Can't imagine Shepard running around, shooting bad guys and dodge rolling there. She'd break every bone in her body 😂
