Houston Rockets' 1994 NBA Finals Starting Lineups Intro

  • This is from Game 6 of the 1994 NBA Finals where the Rockets faced the New York Knicks. It was this game in which Hakeem Olajuwon blocked Knicks guard John Starks' attempt to win the title and force a Game 7, where Houston would go on to win their first NBA Title.
In my opinion, I don't know why the Rockets changed their intro to the Alan Parsons Project’ “Sirius,” which is famously known as the theme song for the Chicago Bulls. Houston already had an upbeat starting lineups intro in the 1994 playoffs. Just look at this video that I posted; it was like the predecessor to the Rockets’ “U Got 2 Know” intro which was introduced in the 1994-1995 season until the 2001 season. Game 6 took place on Sunday, June 19, 1994. Games 1, 2, 6, and 7 were played at the Summit (later Compaq Center and now, the Lakewood Church) in Houston, Texas, due to the old 2-3-2 Finals format.

Suns used it in '93 and the Rockets used it in '94. Nobody would use the intro theme better than Mike and the Bulls.

I agree with you. While other teams have used it for their own, "Sirius" is the Chicago Bulls' theme song.
As for the Rockets, they only used "Sirius" for this NBA Finals. They actually had another intro for the 1994 Playoffs, which is shown in this video, th-cam.com/video/I2PxbfsrKWM/w-d-xo.html
-The drum roll and the song (excluding the NASA countdown audio) are from "Tribal Dance" by 2 Unlimited. This intro probably laid the foundation for how the Rockets would use Cappella's "U Got 2 Know" for the 1994-95 season and so on until the 2002-03 season when Yao Ming arrived.
Now, why did change their starting lineups intro to "Sirius"? I believe that the Rockets wanted to "intimidate" the Knicks since the Knicks always ran into the Bulls in the playoffs for 4 consecutive seasons (1991 to 1994 and later on, 1996).

Ricky the dragon steamboat was the first person to used that intro theme in the WWF before the bulls.

A lot of teams in the 90s were using "Sirius" for intros, huh?

Yeah! I was very surprised that even the Rockets were using the intro when I watched this the first time. In that case, I guess the Bulls intro was incredibly popular back in the day! 😁

I believe that the mascot's name is Booster, while the Rockets also had the dunking mascot Turbo. In the 1995-96 season, Clutch the Bear made his debut.
