As a kid, I played exactly the same hacked game in arcade station near my home. When I grew up and had my own PC. I tried searching it all around internet and the nearest i came to this game was SF2 Rainbow Edition, but not this game. After 2.5 decades i get to see this as a youtube recommendation .. wow !
First SF game I've ever played, so many memories!! At the time we didn't even know it was hacked, we just thought that's how the game was supposed to be.
I remember a arcade version back in the early 90's. It was Street Fighter 2, though practically everyone had either sonic boom projectiles or haodokens coming from their arms/armpits/legs....crotch..... and you could literally transform into any character on the roster simply by pressing the 1 or 2 player start button... It also had Ryu and Ken teleporting dragon punches across the screen or up it.
In Brazil at years 90's we had arcades with these codes at bus stations, between tired people and expired snacks. We call it Bus Station Street Fighter. A vintage masterpiece for sure.
oh daaaaamn!!! I played this hacked mode when I was a kid in the arcade, I just didn't knw what the version was called and I was playing as Guile and the whole screen would be filled up with sonic booms😂👌🔥🔥🔥
I remember when I was living in the bronx in the early 90s this laundromat had this weird version of the game. Ken and Ryu were throwing like 10 hadoukens at once.
Used to play this as a kid 🧒 Anybody remember you could jump in the air in air and do a fire ball and then jump up again and do another fire ball and keep doing it until you would start to come up at the bottom of the screen lol 😂
Paul Coyle Yes very clearly where the player who came through the screen was invincible. Also you could do this by continuously using the zangief spinning lariot.
I’ll never forget seeing this hack in an arcade machine in a video shop near my grandmother’s. My brother and I saw Blanka turning into Ryu and Honda throwing hardoukens and we wondered what the hell was going on!!
The thing is there was a version of this game that used to do that, don't think it's this version. It was where you keep jumping until you start to come up from the ground
I remember playing this in the arcades in Mexico. Everyone picked balrog because if you spammed his punch with hadokens, the other player would be unable to move lol
This takes me back to the 90's. I would play this at a little Asian deli. It was the best street fighter game ever. I wish I could find a spot with it now. 😁
The actual name is Street Fighter II - Rainbow Edition. It has several internal switches with which you control the level of insanity of the game play.
We had this game at a few arcades in our city. You can change characters during game play by pushing the player button. This be my fave version of street fighter 2 along with hyper fighter epic azzzzzzzzzzzz. Long live the 80s and 90s arcade
As a kid we use to take the electric ignition out of a electric lighter and with the electrical sparks it produced we use to give the arcade machine shocks from the lighter and it would give us free credit but also produced weird stuff like this type of street fighter. The shocks from the lighter cause glitches in the game, hence characters were doing all sorts of stuff they wasn't meant to do.
This must have been how Ryu beat Sagat in the first Street Fighter game. Somebody else was about to win, then Ryu takes over their body and finishes the job. All because he couldn’t stand losing!
damn Ryu really held his grudges well that he trailed Balrog across the globe, disguised himself as Blanka, Ken, Zangief, Balrog himself, M.Bison, even Chung Li, just to get his revenge on Balrog. Also along the way Guile jumped on the grudge match train.
Balrogs power punch is just insane. He moves half way across the screen and delivers a straight jab that takes away nearly half your life. Then if he gets you in bearhug headbutting you its game over. Perfect......
This might be the version I played when I was younger Back when my dad owned a street fighter II arcade in the 90s. I remember then going to an arcade place and played a real version of SFII and being disappointed that Balrog couldn’t throw Hadoukens with his punches, and that you couldnt switch Characters mid match by pressing the start button.
I still remember playing this game at the arcade near my tuition centre. I will go there after tuition everytime 😁. As the game was fairly imbalance I was indomitable using Balrog. Be it PC or other player that challenge me, they'll perish by my Balrog's + P godlike move (honestly this is the only move I know how to execute😂). I don't even know how to throw a fireball during that time 🤣🤣🤣. Ah... Those r sweet memories... 😊😊😊
For those who wants to play this and live in Japan, there's one playable on a original 80's cocktail table arcade at Mikado, in Takadanobaba, Tokyo, you enter and take the stairs to go to the 2nd floor where all the fighting games are and there's some games in the stair case in front of the toilet, and there's this totally dope SFII Rainbow whatever edition. 100円/Play. Chances are i'm playing it around 10pm every saturday :D
These opponents Balrog is facing have some real identity issues. Chun Li turned into Ken, then Ryu... girl can't make up her mind who she wants to be. Zangief throwing Sonic Booms, Sagat turning into Vega... what a crazy group of fighters Balrog had to face. Also, was dizzying really that easy in Street Fighter 2? Sometimes dizzy would happen after only one hit... was that part of the hack?
I played this. In Houston Texas. It had a sticker on it that said thunder edition or lightening edition I believe. Everyon three fireballs.. the slow ones would follow the opponent and the fast ones flew across the screen super fast, and the p1 button changed your character. Always wanted to own one of the cabinets :( never found one
If you press start you can change your character. This hack was played in the most dirty bars here in Brazil. You can even teleport if hold kick and move left then right.
I loved this game - had it at college. Everyone would just try to spam with Balrog’s punch and fireball combo but if you got good with Ken you could wipe the floor with them 😂
I remember doing the spinning lariat in the air a few screens and then doing the spinning piledriver back down through all of them. Or having a wall of slow sonic booms. You didn't have to charge attacks with this version. Good times
I love how the CPU is like...
'Fuck this I'm turning into ryu!!'
4:42 Ken gets hit so hard, he turns into Ryu.
it was Ryu all along, his blonde wig just got knocked off.

After accidentally giving a death blow to ryu; Balrog was forever traumatized and haunted by the image of the first man he's ever killed......
Technically, it'd be his second or probably beyond that. In SF lore, Balrog was a hella dirty boxer and even ended up killing a man.
